Cool stuff, but from the title, expected a piece ABOUT the boats, not history, competition and the boats.
As a kiwi I have always followed the sailing, especially during the America's Cup just because I love seeing us beat the world, but especially Team America. When the design switched to the recent foiling hulls I was blown away at the change in race pace and the switch to an almost composite sport of flying and sailing, love watching it even more now!

All hydrofoils "fly" over water, it's in the name.
This is what Cargo ships and Oil tankers must use for forward thrust. Lots of dead heads and sea life near the contental shelf but less impact from desil electricity. maybe tandum hydrofoil tug boat like system where one pulls a elastic rope then drops off for the 2nd or 3 pulls of a cargo ship. Weight savings of fuel engine prop with 5-6 racing boats teathered to tankers or cargo ships. Ropes become electric after a few feet so a std rope will work as a bungi cord.
