A cheap and easy fix is all that separates Linus from revamping his streaming setup with a Sony A7S II. Except it wasn’t easy. And actually he didn’t save much money in the end either…

Comments

  1. Let's Go Brandon!

  2. So essentially, you spent more money by trying to save money by fixing it yourself, and then breaking it and having to pay more money to get it fixed

  3. that's some expensive repair tho 😅 you can get the entire camera plus a few extras for less than the repair costs used

  4. After attempting to replace a shutter mechanism of older Nikon D series DSLR, which involved taking the whole camera apart, I really am stunned at the level of engineering and complexity, It's so much more complex than modern smartphones, took me 8h to do it. I think cameras are actually cheap for what they are.

  5. Cheap Canon camera?

  6. That was pain to watch…

  7. Micro hdmi is a stupid design, always has been!

  8. Linus: It is a 3000$ camera and it turned into a paperweight!
Also Linus: Now its a webcam.

I would never have dreamed of bringing a soldering iron near an a7s III lol. Anything happens to one of my business-related bodies, it’s off to Focus Camera.

  9. This why sending it to Sony was probably a better plan.

  10. Sony mirrorless with Canon EF mount lens? WHAT IN THE TARNATION?

  11. I am cheese fries. I like this video because I'm into cameras. 1

  12. so how much did you save compared to getting it professionally repaired?

  13. No wonder it didn't work, small boards don't need s lot of heat to get components off, also the board was moving around while he tried to do it wtf

  14. ⚠ IMPORTANT TIP – All of this could have been avoided if the following setup had been used: A right-angle cable and… black hot glue. 😜 I kid you not. We use right angle mini-HDMI cables and then use a hot glue gun and build a sort of barrier around the connector. It takes about 15 seconds to glue the cable onto the camera, the black glue is more sticky and flexible than the basic kind but all of that can also be removed easily when needed. Most of the time though, you keep the camera in the rig with the cable attached to it. So the HDMI output is protected at all times when shooting. We don't break those ports anymore. 😎👍

  15. Linus definitely need some soldering training.

  16. Redux takes for damn ever to ship your pc. No idea if it's worth the wait. It's been a month since I spent thousands of dollars on something I was told would ship in ten days.

  17. the sponsor should have been ifixit

  18. that's why costs $600+ to repair

  19. At 14:16 I just started to laugh and laugh because I've been there sooooooo many times while repairing small things. You're so pissed that you want to throw it, but you're so close that you can't stop!

  20. Linus is clearly not the Rossman.

  21. If Linus can’t do it, I can’t do it.

If Linus could do it, I still wouldn’t be able to.

  22. I wonder if you can swap the micro-USB for USB-C.

  23. And when the factory service opens the now tampered camera, they could double the price , or in extreme cases, make your product "beyond economical repair due to tampering".

  24. 18:03 Have you tried installing Fellout?

500 bucks for repair costs is too much!
spends 700$+ and multiple days of work

  25. heard right to repair. liked video, commented, forwarding to people …

  26. Is it just me, or could 90% of Linus's frustration and problems have been solved by using a handy helper? Could even have applied the hot air gun to the back of the board and avoid burning the HDMI socket (and possibly avoid over heating the whole board by not doing it so many times)

  27. So basically this repair cost as much as sending it to Sony and get the micro HDMI fixed

  28. Personally if I would be able to afford the almost $4000 for the camera I could foot the bill for $600 to get it repaired Buy Sony.

  29. Reached out to Sony directly and they fixed my Cameras micro hdmi port for free (A7iii), all you gotta do is ask.

  30. I'm a machinist…that about 1.50 in materials in the water bottle another 3 in over head… so 15.50 in net….

  31. sony stuff are generally repair frendly. hifi, (?n pc, etc. .. but the cameras. it's all bout ribbon cables.
too bad seems like these ares the last good stuff from it.

  32. Beginning: *goal is to save money

End: *spends more money than professional services

  33. What a comedy of errors! Linus, nothing personal, but you don't have the skill set for this. This is why Sony charges $500, because you require mad skills to work on SMD components. Not to mention familiarity with an absolutely packed box of components and connectors. Also you need to be wearing an antistatic wrist strap when working on any electronics. In hindsight the $500 would have been a cheap fix.

  34. This repair makes me feel better about some of my attempts! Thank you!
