For Marvel vs Capcom, the characters were moving so fast that I didn't notice the sprite distortions, which looked like a bad upscaling algorithm more than anything. What I couldn't ignore however was the rainbow banding on the CRT. Following later games, the rainbow, which I think might actually be from reflection than the actual video output or maybe from the camera, was a consistent issue that pretty much kills the HD CRT for me. The traditional CRT didn't have that problem interestingly enough, though if it was just the lighting, maybe it would've been different had they swapped places.
Why not try a even older tv? Theylooks super cool in your livingroom
I actually have a Sony HD CRT in my closet. Never could figure out the component cable maybe because it always seemed staticy.
Anyone else notice some weird color flickering at around 14 minutes?
Playing the original Rock Band on my old Sony Trinitron was the shit.
Another year and the OLED will be darker than the CRT and lose all the contrast ratio.

Aqui na América do Sul, a representante dessa CRT 16:9 é a KV-36XBR800. Cores sensacionais, atraso de 2ms, alta resolução e, som de cinema com seus 2 SUBWOOFERS. Quanto aos jogos antigos, eles se saem melhores nas crts porque eles foram feitos para CRTs, além dos pixels se mesclarem e deixarem os sprites mais arredondados, fazendo jogos até da época do PS2 e, no caso dessa XBR do comentário, até o Xbox 360 Nas tvs de tubo, SEMPRE PREFIRAM scart ou vídeo componente! Quanto ao PS2, prefiro a KV-29FA210 (se achar uma!)
CRTs let me play console lightgun games… until a "smart" tv comes along that allows me to do that I'm sticking with my 1080i trinitron

Using that version of MVC2 was a mistake. Especially with it applying the smoothing filter, which looks horrible regardless of what it is on. In fact, it even bugs out entirely and will display and smudge pixels to completely different locations from where it SHOULD be drawn. Without it, sprite games like MVC2 look very crisp and clean on modern displays.

i think it is sad that you did not test N64 Perfect Dark, Zelda, Rush or something like that. Try to read a text on a new tv and you will see. Also the N64 does have some tricks to get "good picture" from an CTR that does not work on a new tv.
I had an amazing 16:9 32" CRT 15 years ago. I did long comparisons when going for a LCD, and the LCD clearly won! I will never go back.
Low resolution graphics like c64 but also old arcade games are supposed to be displayed on a CRT because they blend pixels together which give the illusion of a different color.

This is why I think there is a market for developers to make retro games for modern displays using art based graphics. Like SoR 4. That game looks AMAZING and retains a retro feel.

I have one of those "plasma" crt tvs that are an absolute pain to move arround because of how heavy they are
its not blacks its not input lag. its motion blur in films films for me. it seems a lot more similar to theater and to get nice smooth motion on an oled you get that really shitty soap opera effect. and then without it things shot in 24p look too choppy its just a shit show

Shit tons of copper, burned retinas and weighing a metric fuck ton. Sounds like a great technology that isn't wasteful in any way at all…….. Much like Vinyl.
