One of my fondest memories was that my cousins somehow smuggled a PS2 dev kit to Mexico, I was probably 5 years old but I remember the shape of the console was nothing like the retail version of the console. Sadly they sold the console at a Flea market. Til this day I’ve been searching hard for that dev kit but not a trace of it remains at the local flea markets or technology plazas. Hell even on the internet. Would be cool to someday buy it back.

When I developed Wii U games, my CAT-R kits cost $1400, CAT-DEV was $3000+. Nintendo didn't give anything for free. I still have my CAT-R and DRC-TV devices for Wii U development.

If you haven't already, check out the Darknet Diaries episodes, Xbox Underground. It's 2 parts but it talks, among other these, how they were able to get hold of a bunch of dev kits and all the stuff they could do. But in the end… everyone went to prison.

As someone that fixes electronics for a living it pains me to see you try to open that Xbox 1. The back io shield is plastic riveted on every Xbox not supposed to be removed to open it 2.knowning that I don't believe the rest of the plastic shell was permanently attached as you made it seem the clips are just a pain in the ass sometimes

why didnt they just copy games from a retail series x onto an external hard drive then connect that drive to the dev kit
