Every industry has its fair share of people and companies aiming to perfect the craft… but that aim has lead to a number of shady snake oil solutions that don’t actually improve anything. Today, we look at one of those.

  2. And the people who buy this definitely are the problem.

  3. anything that has audiophile in the name is a scam to me

  4. the reviews are a placebo effect of wasting money on an $800 switch i guess…

  5. This thing is for people that have no glue 🤣

  6. The whole Audiophile market is a scam. It's the make version of crystals, shakras and essential oils.

  7. Networking aside, people really overestimate the sensitivity of human hearing.

  8. Many people pay hundreds for dumb cables for IEM's and headphones all the time too. Its always some bullshit hipster extravagant language blah blah blah description and the comments remind me of wine tasters but for audio. I somewhat got into it but just for "Hifi" music players and USB dacs and I think its mainly in their heads but headphones do matter and DACs/Output but I think most chips sound the same and its mainly just whichever is loudest typically sounds better to other people. So many DAPs/DACs people spend thousands on with Sabre blah blah dual DAC chip and all this.

  9. Great video guys. As a retired broadcast engineer it always makes me laugh when people do audio testing as you have done. I do not know the audio source you are using but if it is mp3 as used my most, but not all listeners, the source material is not as good as it could be anyway. Even with a live orchestra and passing digitised live through the two routes as you have done with the two switches, I feel sure that there will be NO discernable difference. The use of the black gunge to cover whatever they may have done is very poor practice anyway. I well remember a lot of Sony broadcast video machines in the Betacam SP era, BVW75 etc circa 1990's, that had faults develop due to the wire tack glue becoming conductive over time causing many faults. Loss of luminance, loss of chrominance, phase errors. Even the Sony lubricating oil ie the oil they specified to lubricate the mechanisms that turns to become a sticky residue and mechanisms jam. That mechanical failure is noted on both domestic and professional equipment. The list goes on, so I always detest the use of gunge on circuit boards as it may work now but will it still work in a few years time after many heating and cooling cycles. Companies such as Tektronix, whom I visited back in 1974 at their Guernsey subsidiary manufacturing plant, where they made oscilloscopes for industrial users had hot and cold rooms to test not only completed items but components to ascertain their projected life by doing accelerated testing. None, or little I would think is now done in the modern throw away society. After say, three years it's obsolete anyway so who cares. Just demolish another forest, build another mine and destroy our planet.

  10. It's gotta be said –digital 'audiophile' equipment like this is low hanging fruit. It's BS. But you're absolutely correct that that audiophile pursuit of low noise and high clarity is the goal, and that goal is completely legitimate.

  11. TNX LINUS IVE HAD A GOOD LAUGH TODAY.

  12. The internal stickers look like tamperproof seals to me, and are probably the company's means of getting out of the warranty/returns commitment?

  13. Another example of "A <some_nutcase> and his money are soon parted".

i love seeing linus call out bs!

  14. Audiophiles are the most gullible, elitist hipster consumers in any industry. Look up Mobile Fidelity. They were selling vinyls produced from digital masters, and all these so called "Audiophiles" had no fucking clue. It's like the wine industry. They've created this niche with certain criteria that nobody can really explain in detail or pinpoint for that matter, because guess what? WE'RE ALL DIFFERENT AND PROCESS THINGS DIFFERENTLY! To see a baseline for something that changes between individuals is the most half-ass dumb-shit I've ever seen in my life.

  15. It's a bit disappointing. I mean, it's clear by looking at this that you have no clue how to analyze this hardware. (What is the matter with this quartz? Why don't you measure the frequency if in doubt. While I really doubt they overclocked this chip) Then, you move to the transport layer and explain to us why the data can't be corrupted because of TCP, while most streaming protocols are really built on top of UDP. When the network slows down, if your playback buffer is empty, the stream is interrupted anyway. So, to avoid accumulating delay, you want late packets to be dropped. Ordering can still be restored inside the playback buffer or out of order packets are simply dropped since they are anyway very uncommon. To be clear, I'm not telling that this product isn't a scam, I'm just telling that you are not really demonstrating that, which is somehow ironic…

  16. Should of just had a one second video that said ‘No’ and that’s enough

  17. everytime he catches me with the sponsor I have the same response "you son of a *****" 😬lol

  18. There is one case I can think of where a switch might affect your audio quality: Real-time UDP-based VoIP. If the UDP packets are dropped, delivered out of order, or lost you might hear it. If your internet connection was excellent, but your switch was trash, then theoretically it could drop or delay some of those UDP packets and you'd get a worse audio experience.

I don't think that's what this company was claiming, especially since they mention an "audiophile NAS", which would use TCP as you mentioned.

  19. Amazing. So if i need some quick cash, i just take a random pc accessory and slap "audiophile" on it and i can sell it for 100x msrp? Could try it with my keyboard.

"Special audiophile logitec keyboard. Typing so silent you wont even notice" £3,599

  20. This takes me back to a video several years ago in which an engineer deconstructed a headphone set beats by Dr Dre (I always forget which way round it goes though I think they were bought by Apple and increased in price by 100%) and priced the components at $14 making them the cheapest crap on the market while celebrity experts were rating them 5 stars and idiots were buying them for $400. I still see people now wearing them and looking really proud and I always think they have no way out of the confirmation bias that controls their world.

  21. I don't understand how these devices aren't illegal. This is outright fraud. Why do these companies still exist and why aren't the people who run them in jail?

  22. Should be called the "audio placebo effect"
Mac user thinking there is more in the track explains why Apple can sell them $1000 monitor stands

  23. Audiophiles are stuck in a time period where these things did matter

  24. If this is real then the weirdos arguing that analog audio is better must have some merit, or else this would be a crock of shit.

  25. Also you could always do a NULL test.

  26. Stereo imaging will be different, there is no way that box will effect anything. So Stupid, good test….Thanks for saving peoples money….
