Ah, Apple charging upwards of 2 grand for a glorified mobile phone, a keyboard, and a portable screen. Mind you that is near enough the price of an iPhone so I guess their pricing consistent. Apple, always the value proposition. Just not the kind of proposition you want.

Put that macos on other laptop manufacturer, I'm definitely buy it with 0 hesitation.
It seems like the M1 Air is still very compelling for browsing and light school/office work – the M1 is already almost an overkill, and the longer battery life and potential price drops make it quite a sensible choice imo.
I think it was a mistake to release the Macbook Air with M2.
For most Air users, the improved performance does not outweigh the higher energy consumption and for professional users, you would have the Macbook Pro with M2.
Of course, all of this also depends on the production costs of M1 vs M2…
Imagine a m2 user looking at his friend playing games on a beatdown gaming laptop while he is playing chessmaster on m2. 🤣 priceless.

The amateur programers who work on Mac OS should look at how the Linux distro, POP OS, has implemented windows tiling to see how program professionals do programming.

I have a feeling youtube reviewers make reviews just for the other youtube reviewers. How many people do video editing…. while traveling… on a laptop…. Studio people work on desktops with a mouse etc. Most of us do not do it, but we use a lot of tabs, some programs (sorry, apps) – Salesforce in my case, etc. I am personally more disappointed in the sharp edges for the palm rests, no USB-A (you heard me) and the proprietary charger – something which should be forever banned. I am tired of apple cables. Touch screen would be nice for some things that are easier with fingers like zooming in, but… yeah, it's apple. Unfortunately, Samsung laptops are no better

The problem with "cutting Apple slack" is that Apple does not specify assumptions about use conditions. It reminds me of a major semiconductor company specifying 7 year reliability assuming 8 hours a day power-on in a shirt-sleve environment. That was someone's bright idea. Too bad if you're a mad dog or an Englishman and your application runs constantly around the clock.

Apple missed a ton of imac sales they could have had with 13th gen intel. What a failure to ditch intel at the best possible time and AMD gpu when performance is making big leaps.

Even the lightest web browsing makes that thing uncomfortably hot. I've replaced its thermal paste for a liquid metal one and installed smcfancontrol, only to make it slightly less hot. I'd be joyfully chilling around with that M2 mf.
This laptop is fine if you are going to surf the internet, do some light work , and want to stay in the apple eco system. Loading this pc with a game for performance is dumb.

Why are benchmarks always catered toward video editors? Come on, not everyone is doing video editing on these machines. What about 3D CAD, or software compiling? Are there seriously no tests that can show the performance for tasks like these?
For instance, when you are compiling code, especially if working on UI… you are CONSTANTLY re-compiling. This is not a "bursty" workload, it's a sustained load over minutes and hours.
the funny thing is i bought a M2 MacBook Pro since it has a fan and it has not turned on once and my laptop has not overheated even with editing 4K 60fps footage, with 100 Chrometabls and PyCharm in the back.
I’m so tired of reviews of the base model testing final cut pro. Like really, how big is the audience that buys macbooks for final cut pro x vs programming. Also nobody is buying a mac to game, stop including it in the video.
i'd not recommend anyone to go with the base model – memory compression or not, it will be swapping out things to ssd, meaning the ssd wear&tear is greatly increased. the useful life of the system will end up be reduced. 16gb should be a much better choice.
Does it have “modern standby”? No. Does it randomly reboot to install updates while I’m in the middle of something? No. Does it randomly bother me with “Lets finish setting up” or by installing unsolicited scam like Candy Crush? No.

I have a loud windows laptop if I want power or gaming. I like that the MacBook Air is silent so I can code/work and just listen to music and not a Dyson.

having no cooler at all is just stupid, theres no other way of putting it. Got a Zenbook, its got a cooler, and it doesn't do anything most of the time, but when its needed, it does what it has to do, cool the fucking hardware. And its still barely audible, only when the CPU and GPU are pinned at 100% and the thing is charging does the fan become really noticeable but that barely happens because why would i use a laptop for that.
I dont like Macs, but M2 Air for me has all the features needed – 1. performance boost for compiling stuff 2. the best performance on WebGL graphics 3. magsafe! 4. Battery time . 5. form-factor
Of course its not for extreme gaming , it throttles at Civ-6 multiplayer. Also not for hardcore gamedev like Unity/Unreal.
Your average joe will never overheat the macbook air. People who need more power will get the pro with the fan. Is common sense.
This is why im pushing back getting a macbook because i cant even use bootcamp to get windows is well. Hardly any cooling. Also the anoubt of storage the bade model takes

Funny, people don't wish their iPhones and iPads had fans. The Air fits in this ecosystem.
I repaired one for liquid damage 2 weeks ago (yes already!) and I couldn't stop laughing at the 'heatsink'. So they solve the heat issue by moving to ARM only to again create a Mac that runs super hot.
I've had no thermal issues at all on my M2 Pro – none at all. And this is even when doing heavy music production.
Im a huge apple fan. But I love Linus's unbiased reviews on these machines. It's the perfect mix of a non apple fanboy showing real world problems with these computers with an apple hater showing the situations where these machines shine. You guys are my go to for tech reviews

No… Apple just knows that in 2 to 3 years, people will be forced (by Apple themselves) to buy a brand new Apple laptop, because all of their devices are designed to slow down, break down or wear down over a period of 2-3 years. Especially with how the high temperatures affect electronics and especially so in case of batteries, RAM, CPU, GPU and MoBo. With that, Apple figured ''why even bother with spending money on engineering and designing cooling, when our laptops will wear down significantly and people will be forced to buy new ones?!''

Grandpa accidently dropped his m1 Cost so much too repair he bought a new Mac book pro m2 but hes a person that use different usb instead of making new maps within one usb.

Just wish we could make laptops like Framework where your laptop looks premium similar style to apple but almost all parts are swappable. Hopefully it ccomes to my country soon.
