Amazing Products TV The Biggest Tech Divorce – WAN Show September 16, 2022

Comments

  1. Normal people use ublock and sponsor block and see zero ads.

    • Nick
    • January 10, 2023

It's astonishing that anyone falls for the YouTube comment spam bots.

  2. Shadowbans are absolutely horrible. If you are going to do that then there should be a way for users to know they are banned

  3. 42:20 Like you said before, a lot of the people who consume your content are fair techsavvy. Or at least interested enough that they should know what resolution actually means and how good pixel count resolution is is entirely dependent on view distance and screen size. I would never buy a 1080p TV these days, but a 1080p monitor is still on my radar for my third computer monitor.
I just can't understand why people can't think for themselves and do their own research to better understand the topic.
The answer to your question is, no it cannot be fixed. People are just the way they are.

  4. 33:30 This is kinda why I'm extremely sceptical whenever I see someone criticise you. Not because you never deserve criticism, it's just people take things out of context or completely rephrase things that you said that isn't even close to what you meant…
I hate people on the internet. I hate people in general… World is filled with idiots…

  5. 30:15 That comment may be entirely devoid of factual information, but if you start banning that kind of thing, you're a hairs-breadth away from banning any criticism you don't personally recognize as valid.

I'd argue that if you consider it valid to hide that kind of comment, you cannot be trusted to decide what is or is not a valid critical comment. That's right on the knife's edge. Either a comment is nothing but vitriol and abuse, or it's acceptable. Any line that deviates from that is on a slippery slope to removing genuine and accurate criticism.

  6. Hot Take: Blanket Shadow Banning an account on the ground of a bad post is wrong.
Here's why: 1. As discussed later, the it might have been due to a misunderstanding.
    2. A "brain-dead" take (which is always subjective) is not invalidating any other and future ideas or opinions except that one.
    3. Looking at myself, I do not watch everyone video with full attentiveness and in the same state of mind (most I think watch the videos at the end of the day for light entertainment). And sometimes the tone might be completely off (it has happened to me – and that was not good, and might have shadow banned me already) but sometimes as much as it seems tiring to read some "dumb" posts it is not a one-way road.
Finally: Not reading and ignoring the posts is LTT's prerogative, but disabling others ability to engage with that comment is very bad form , lest I have misunderstood the shadow ban concept.

  7. Never knew gooseneck mic arms could hold an RE20

  8. I feel like the big problem with AI is that all together, humans don't know exactly what our goal is as a species. We are all focused on our own separate goals and don't look at the full picture. If Humanity could find a goal (something like making sure our oceans don't become landfills), then this tool could be used to advance our knowledge and improve the lives of millions. We will always have people who will just use this to win a small art competition that means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

  9. Jellyfin has MILES to go before it can replace Plex, its metadata agent is nowhere near as good.

Linus you can now actually message people that dont have imessage now

  10. I absolutely forget that ads exist. When I see regular tv, I have basically the same reaction. I generally consume all media on youtube and I have premium. I don't have time to pursue other things. I work a lot, and it is the best option.

  11. And here I am hating on 1440p at 32" … I think it looks pretty bad so 1440p at 43" would be pure terrible looking. 1440p looks Great at 27" or smaller

  12. Funny thing about twitter. It is doing nothing different. It is just a different group of society being affected by it.

  13. Single tasking 4 things at once! yep thats me too x)

  14. I am the first to block and report a clear commercial spam bot.
But these grand systems always scare me on the authoritarian regime side of the evil world we live in.
It gives even more censorship and control to those.

  15. I am almost 60.
I have been censored since I could scream.
    Shut Up is my friend.
I have mixed feelings for her .
If she left me, I dunno what I'd do.
    Get a CDN MAiD … ???

  16. the blue satisfaction surveys do show up even to premium members on the main page from time to time. which is fine for me as a premium member as they are not really forcing. you to do it or block content.

  17. YouTube has been removing and hiding my everything for so long that i don't even care anymore… i might as well just shit in a bag and then scream into it followed by me eating it at this point!

  18. I only watch any entertainment on youtube and have never once seen a survey.

  19. Ah yes, reading the title and then comment before you even watched the intro. I love people like that 🤣

  20. I’m old school (I built my first personal computer before you were born) and So am not your typical old fogie. I hate ads and largely can block them out, I.e. I know there have been ads but couldn’t tell you what they are. I also tend to watch paid streaming channels, so I get no ads, the one exception is YouTube premium which I think is too expensive. I do tend to watch sponsored content I YouTube because it is usually relevant. But I hate when there is sponsored content AND the YouTube inserted ads and have dropped several channels because they do both. Keep up the great content.

  21. To be honest, I've seen some of that weird image clicking behavior on Twitter long before Musk took over. I'm kinda glad it wasn't just my one experience.

  22. The reason you don't see long tech conversation threads I think is that youtube top comment's algorithm started to shadow ban those, since 2-3 years I would say. Before I could have extensive threads with people on comments that could stay somewhat on the top, but know I have had several instance of threads where the first comment and initial response did great and stayed at the top for 1-2 days, but as soon as more long messages are added it goes straight to the trashbin at the end of the top comments list even though it has 20 likes against other comments that are even older with 0 likes and 0 reponses. youtube seems to not like long responses anymore.

  23. 0:30 "Freedom of speech absolutionist" sounds right, as in he might forgive (absolve) you for speaking freely. Maybe.

  24. Did you not rubbish my 3050 lol. Cheers.

  25. Stop digging a hole.

On the subject of NAS. I wish Linus could sort of make the public aware of a few things.
    1. Not every NAS support BTRFS. In a perfect world you might want to have a Prosumer NAS that runs FreeBSD with ZFS. But BTRFS should be good enough for 99% of cases. Just on the check sum feature alone. Unfortunately Synology doesn't offer this feature as standard.

    2. Synology also uses extremely outdated Kernel. And their Kernel aren't updated to major revision with their DSM. Most of the Synology you can buy today are still on Linux 4.0x. Which means running on an very old version of BTRFS. ( Not exactly known for its reliability during that era )

    3. Without BTRFS or ZFS, you might as well forget about NAS, due to Bit Flip. ( I am already ignoring ECC Memory here )

  26. You could create a new channel (or use the lmg clips) and post some of the exclusives like half a year late or something and just leave it there (no timeout). Still promotes floatplane (early access and more stuff) but gets more eyes on both content and the lmg clips channel

Why do you guys use teams instead of slack?

  27. If Linus wouldn't brag as much about money, I think much of the bad commenters would go away.
Just something I see ppl react in anger against.
I must admit, not a fan of it either, so maybe I just noticed that talk because of that.
Being humble regarding the wealth one have is always recommended, imo.

  28. Oh boah banning people with good take YOKES

  29. Invisible jet incoming
