  1. Hi,
    Thanks for producing this video.

    I have two questions:

    1. Have you produced a video instructing how to back-up the entire iPhone – including notes, messages, photos, etc. – directly to an external hard drive instead of the Mac's internal hard drive?
    2. How can I back-up just my text message by not using iCloud?

  2. i would love to pay apple $0.99 but i cant because half of my screen is black

  3. damn

  4. This was awesome! Thank you so much!!!

  5. Why do we need to talk if I use yahoo?! I can’t leave it!

    Nice tips

  8. Most annoying thing is that every time I backup my phone on pc it fills up storage like garbage and after three backups my pc storage falls short

  9. skolan

  10. What’s wrong with Yahoo!

  11. Here’s a great tip for those wanting to have extra points of failure for a macOS backup.

Use an external storage to backup your Mac with Time Machine, and this will include your iOS backup too. Theoretically speaking, you could have 2 points of failure: macOS and Time Machine.

And if you still don’t feel secure, you could add an extra storage for another Time Machine backup. Therefore, you now have 3 points of failure:

    1. macOS
    2. Time Machine external backup 1
    3. Time Machine external backup 2

  15. I have a couple of questions:

    1. I have a PC
    2. I have 2 iPhones (5SE & XS Max)
    3. iTunes is not recognizing either phone (yes iTunes is updated to the latest version).
    4. I don’t use iCloud.

Here’s what I need done: To be able to back up the two phones so I can merge them so when I get the 14 later this year I can have the info on one phone.
As you stated in the video, I want to save all the pix and videos to my PC.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanx in advance.

  16. yes because .99 to $2.99 is soooooo expensive …. and the people that complain about that cost goes to starbucks every day and spends $7 on a latté. physical backups chews up massive amounts of storage. idiots will spend $400 to get 1TB in their mac instead of a couple bucks a month for cloud. honestly, if you can't afford cloud storage, you need to switch to a cheap android, you can't afford to own an iphone

  17. How about apple just increase the iCloud storage, 5 Gigs is nothing! They been rocking with the 5 Gigs for a while…

We the consumers are the one’s who take all of the Losses, let the big corporations for once take a hit 💩…

  18. I hope more people commented "what about getting an external drive that connects to my iPhone?" They exist

  19. Would like to see CNETs take on those paid software, such as i-<whatever>, for backing up or accessing iPhone or iPad data.

  20. Thanks really good stuff

  21. You could just connect an external SSD to your iPhone and back up photos & videos to it. I think most people really only care about those things as you can always redownload your apps.

  22. What's wrong with Yahoo mail? I know it's "old school", but I've had it forever, and everything is tied to it. Is there something so concerning about Yahoo mail that I should go through ALL THAT TROUBLE to change EVERY account to my gmail? Why the hate on Yahoo mail? Please help me understand.

  23. I’ve been using yahoo for years and have had no problems

I've had Yahoo mail since it started. I pay for Yahoo Mail Plus and I use it to import all my mail from Gmail, Hotmail and Live mail. The interface of Yahoo Mail is by far the best. The uggliest as far as I'm concerned is Gmail

  24. I backup my phone to my computer (via finder) every 3 days. That’s what I’ve landed on after years of trying to figure this out.

  25. "If you're still using Yahoo we gotta talk" tell that to my friend who just got a Yahoo email in the last few years and another friend who still has hers from when we were in high school together.

  26. yeah, backing up to cloud storage, especially one that you don’t personally own is not a good idea. as you have put it, “why pay apple even more money?” it’s not just the “principle”, it’s the opportunity of not securing your data through local backups by putting convenience over privacy and security. then paying apple or whomever 99 cents or more to have your data.

  27. There’s an known alternative: iMazing

  28. What is the problem with Yahoo Mail?

Dead right I'm a skin flint. 5gb is plenty. I prune it to address book, mail (which is mostly BS now) no photos. All go to my 1TB storage on my Macbook Pro. New phone? No issues. I just change the settings before.

  29. I was waiting when you’re gonna mention external SSDs or HDDs.

  30. You can also set it up to backup over Wi-Fi whenever iPhone is charging.

  31. This is the dumbest video ever. He doesn’t even talk about Google Photos or any other cloud services that you can use to back up your phone. Many people don’t have a Mac for backup. I think this is Apple sponsored video to promote iCloud.

  32. You barely mentioned but iCloud+ for me is a must as protection for my personal life.

  33. Google Photos duh
