I've tried a few capture solutions over the years, both new and old, and so far the one that I have found to work for me is an old HP Media Center PC connected to a regular VCR. If the tape is degraded or noisy, the capture card will not ignore the signal like some newer devices. The only drawback is finding software that works well with the old Pentium 4 era hardware. I kept an old copy of MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 12 which supports video card capture in different formats, since Windows Movie Maker only really captures in WMV and doesn't give you a lot of capture options. Frustratingly, Adobe CS4 was not able to see my capture card like it does for DV cameras, as CS4 is probably a lot easier to obtain a copy of (even as just a trial) compared to other editors of the day.
The 6 head SVHS players from the early 2000’s were excellent. Look out for JVC prosumer models. I always prefer 6 head VCR’s over 4 head units, and always get the tape heads demagnetised and cleaned professionally before transferring VHS 📼 to digital.
Never seen Linus so red-faced in all the time I've watched the channel. 🤣🤣
Cinta VHS 📼 🎶yo creo en el antivirus y el de los que permanecerá el otro día en el🎶
OH Shit 😄 im actually so stupid excited when i see a channel i watch reference another channel that is similar yet (to my knowledge) have never Collaborated.
Technology Connections is also a good channel because its not one of those tacky channels….at least, tacky in the 'bad ways' 😝
Edit: Dont feel Embarrassed Or Mortified by the camp video Linus, You made the summer better for how-ever-many kids that year and even if they dont remember you, they certainly remember your shenanigans
I was literally watching this next to my VCR lol
Dang this is weird. I was only 2 months old at the time of that tape being recorded. Now I'm 19
WTF i was a month old when you were rehersing the camp song
I have personally destroyed any old footage or images of my existence because they bring me such great pain as a trans person. I do not understand why people want to keep "memories" such as this.
Its Nice to see something ‘bout VHS on here. But the tape format really isn’t as fragile as being told by the Guy. It’s quite robust actually, when stored normally.
That Worst french i seeing
I love how this guy's name is "Rathgeber" which is german and means "counselor"
Jan 2023: I grab VCRs from local thrift whenever possible – still finding working units for an average cost of $10 USD.
4:43 i have one with component and i plan to record old VHSs using my retrotink5Xpro upscaler to an elgato
bought my VCR in 2015 and it's hooked to the 4K TV, i also have 30+ year old VHS that are still good and they are not going into an attic
I feel stupid now, I woulda just ploped it into our VHS
I remeber being a kid and thinking no one will wont to wach these home movies in the future because they looks so bad it was like every vhs was out of focus.
they get moldy after a few years so there no good most of the time
I still have a VCR in my room. I love the tech from my childhood like my PS2 and classic Xbox (Both of wich I still have)
Last year I decided to set up the hardware to an able me to transfer VHS to digital after searching for a video player I was lucky to obtain a Samsung 6 head unit hardly used and an elgato capture device… I am now looking for a VHS-C cassete adapter.. Saying that I have never used OSB I nead to try it… Wish you well
did anyone notice linus has a sponsor every video
C’est tiguidou!!
C’est le fun!
<3
I've been watching Linus for YEARS! And as someone who went to summer camp every year as a child, I LOVE THIS by far my favorite video yet! Thanks LMG for this! You had me looking up pics and videos from my own camp experiences and yeah… It's something.
That was a fun video. Young Linus dreaming about that sweet hyper threaded pentium 4 goodness 😅 Aug 03… I had just moved and was starting a new school year in the school where I would eventually meet and fall for my wife. Married in 06 and she's still putting up with me to this day 😅
But how do you change it from as to hd without loosing and of the screen like Disney did to the Simpsons
My dad only filmed out home movies at 2 hr for as he said to get the best quality ❤❤❤❤
I converted all of my parents 8mm tapes and it took me six months to transfer them to dvd and import them in the computer and then split each date with a fade in and fade out and burn it with a menu so we can skip dates ❤❤❤❤ now work on my moms days on Oshawa City Council and that is a bigger job then famoly films mom is @dinadykstra
I have two vhs players need one?
Speaking natively French is such a blessing to watch this video
20:20 its a poor example because it's so clear to start with that it's barely perceptible
17:30 young Linus was ham! 👏
Good job for having the bravado to put that out
this is why you keep vcrs
linus Conseils techniques
I don't know why but i cried watching this probably because i am remembering the good old days away from all of the complicity of modern life
just fyi depending on the vhs player you use mostly likely you will need a standalone TBC device if you go the SDI route. othe wise the picture might not show or look glitchy.
All my childhood videos are on BETA LMAO.
I would be careful with loading that attic with much more stuff. I am not familiar with Canadian building codes, but in the USA the bottom is probably not designed for much load on the bottom for "stuff". The only thing holding the bottom onto the diagonals is pairs of small metal plates. If you load too much on the bottom you can overload those plates and the piece holding the bottom can separate from the diagonal 2×4's. I have seen the ceiling come down totally when people load their attic with boxes of books and other household goods.
This is a really great video though. I have a lot of VHS as well as small Digital videotapes that need to be transferred to the web for storage.
The analogue signal was unstable and the time base correction (TBC) was used to stabilize the signal before output.
With the commercials the machine detected the fade to black.
At the height of VHS technology, a good 4-head player would eliminated those fast forward scan lines completely.
As for archiving there is no future proofing especially since there is no universal standard. The first and last standard worldwide, was film. If anybody's wondering, most reliable and robust storage medium today is the disc.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane! VHS was so weird looking back on it, with all the different formats and variety of VCRs. For video that is total crap by today's standards. To be fair, it looked like crap in 90s standards too, compared to professionally-produced movies and TV shows that were shot on film at the time. It was still a better consumer-friendly option than its predecessors though!
Now I know Linus was getting his hair sprayed red the exact day I was born.
Aww…come on. I`m 35 yo and I stil have a fully working VCR. Even got some tapes that have computer games (VBS, Video Backup System, maybe a good idea for a video?). Old tech is also fun – sometimes it's a unique experience to discover something long forgotten again 🙂
My vhs tapes were just filled with Jenna Jameson's romance JOI videos… Different cultures do different Things, interesting😊
