Intel CPUs were at one point the go-to for nearly every market segment, with powerful products for gamers, datacenters, and content creators alike. AMD has dethroned them, and that’s led to some strangely cheap products popping up on Ebay
 like this 28 core Xeon.

Comments

  1. seems like an M1 (or now M2 Pro) Mac Mini would be better at most modern tasks then this server cpu.

  2. Use to work at TI… we got so many free years ago we would sell them Cheap AF because it was easy.. they would literally trash some that worked but looked effed up

  3. I'm surprised that people don't know about non-graphical bioses, I'm only 21 and I know about them, every laptop I've ever owned, as well as every prebuilt desktop I've ever owned, not even counting one's made before 2000, are all non-graphical, in fact my current PC is my first experience with graphical and sometimes I even use the arrow keys on that

  4. Can we please not do Millennial emoji's in the title please? 🙂

  5. lol couldn't skip the sponsor this time, insta liked 😂

    😁

  6. Never use an emoji again.

  7. That is a data center cpu

  8. old cpus seem to stutter quite a lot on newer apis like vulkan , i got some experience with an i7 2600💀

  9. its coupon.. not 'coupon'

  10. Alibaba be like:

  11. I remember getting my new desktop about 2 years ago and getting hyped because the bios was graphical, and the friend I was building it with was like, duh of course.

  12. After AMD switch to TSMC, I never buy XEON like this, previously I have bought two CPUs XEON 2680v2 2 socket board before Ryzen 2 launch
and 64GB ECC RAM plus a RAID card which connects 8x3TB HDD, I use it for job around four years, that's a very good machine to build kernel and android system.
But now we have a cheaper solution, recently AMD announce Ryzen 7950X, it's more good solution if you don't need to connect many PCIe device
That's why I don't buy this kinds XEON CPUs now. PASSMARK score ratio is about 23179 (XEON 8176) : 63582 (Ryzen 7950X)
Another issue for Intel CPU is power consumption. Next month AMD may announce Geonva which have 96 cores, 192 threads.
Originally I tried to build OpenBMC on Intel QS CPU, it's 192 threads (4 socket) , with 768 GB memory, Though the CPU clock is poor around 2.1GHz
but the speed is slower than My current work machine Ryzen 3950X. I also tried to use RAMDisk partion 70GB (source, build output dir put on ramdisk) on XEON
Still have same results. Wasting power and get poor result than AMD's CPU, that's my conclusion.
Intel have powerful ECO system on Server solution. but they lose market share, we still never see any server product can beat AMDs EPYC

  13. " yeserei-bob "

  14. The tension in the room with linus gesticulating with the chip on his hand

  15. There's no way to overclock or change this thing up to use all the cores and accelerate them?

Here in Brazil, where hardware is stupidly expensive, it's very common for budget gamers (like most people here) to buy some Intel Xeon CPUs from Aliexpress

  16. Linus, you could by a EPYC 7601 as little as $300.

  17. That is the same bios my 2020 Walmart HP laptop uses. That laptop is crap btw.

  18. That thumbnail gives me rtx 3090 vibes

  19. That was my microcenter.

  20. I’m only 18 yet I’m relatively familiar with navigating older, less user-friendly bios (idk the plural) partly because I started tinkering with 2nd and 3rd gen intel systems that I picked up off the side of the road.

  21. Who the heck would pay more than 50 bucks for this shit, 2.1 ghz? Even my 2013 i5 wich can be bought 30 or less can do better, it's supposed to be 3.2 but it's 3.8

  22. Even for $999 you overpaid

  23. "Like the risk I take, of you skipping this mess… suit your needs."

  24. rare stuff

  25. the risk clearly outways the reward

  26. How much fps on fortnite?

  27. xeon e5 2670v2 has 10 cores 20 threads does it not and the vs has 12

  28. Interesting, too rich for my bones.

  29. My laptop has this bios, i thought it was used to this day.
Given my laptop is almost 10 years old

oh THATS probably where my t320 came from, it was probably given to an employee, who gave it to someone else, who gave it to me

  30. I loathe Microcenter. I tried to fix my pc myself but ran into complications so I took it in to Microcenter. Been dealing with them for 3 months. Had em do a rebuild that ended up taking 3 weeks. Now it’s back there for the last 2.5 weeks just diagnosing my gpu and it was determined my 1070 is failing. But oh my god their customer service is so dogshit. I barely get a reply back, I’m left in the dark about what’s happening, they mistyped my service number so I couldn’t check the status online, it’s been a real fun time!

IF YOU CAN AVOID Microcenter then do so I would suggest. I have nothing but hate towards them after all of this crap. It’s been nothing but annoying, tedious BS and their employees couldn’t give a rats ass about you being satisfied.

  31. I got a better deal, 487 (sx) extremely early engineering sample before they even named. It's the only known example and the highest offer I've received is $5,000 but I'm not selling for now. Paid $52.50

  32. InsydeH20 may be almost as old as me, but seeing it brings me comfort

  33. What do you mean “non user friendly”? That bios even has colour!

  34. I bought a INTEL XEON 8 CORE CPU E5-2650 V2 for 9.95 usd can’t wait

  35. Lol I was one of the ones blown away by the new bios UI coming from old era machines

I preffer a non graphical keyboard only BIOS!! Seriously so much easier……..

  36. Huh, what a cool set of CPU characteristics. I feel like I understand CPU performance much better now.

  37. Wasn't gonna skip the message. You brought this upon me

  38. I was so fast as skipping the Segway, linus never got to finish saying the word skipping
