Your PC is finally done: the cable management is perfect, you found the ideal peripherals, and… you’re still using the onboard sound from your motherboard? That seems like another opportunity to upgrade! But watch out: there’s trickery afoot in the audiophile world – and we can prove it.

Great video, nice to see the labs testing stuff 🙂
A bit funny the choice of sponsor as they are kinda snake oil just like the audio filtering products. – source I bought one of their chairs like an idiot
LMAO I LOVE THIS GUY!
If anything, these could do more for RAM overclocking than audio quality
There is also software snakeoil for audiophiles, like different, "high quality" memcpy implementations.
Anyways IMO power filters are mostly useless when the real problem with most pc audio is EMI, so shielding the sound card would go a long way. So says a lot about a company making "filters" when they don't even shield their products.
I'm a little bit disapointed in the lab. I expectded some oscilloscope examination on power rails at least. It could still do something stabilitywise.
Although space is scarce in a modern pc giving that GPU's are taking up all the space near the extension slots and PCI Express slots are getting scarcer because of that, there is only one real solution to having better audio in your system when you don't want to rely on the motherboard sound chip. And that is the solution that worked for years before: the good old Soundblaster card. They still exist, but while everybody (and I too) are lusting for ever bigger GPU's and CPU's they haven't had that much of an evolution, let alone revolution. That's why mostly they are ignored now. But I wouldn't mind if one would be taken into account into a test in the near future.
Have you tried using the power filters already built into the board.. yea? me too any never had any issue lol, we arent in 2005 anymore
Linus nothing grows in drain cleaner another chemical I'm testing is CLR
nah, a groud loop isolator (audio) for line out or headphone out is a good and cheapo route.
In audio engineering as you mentioned at the beginning the goal is to capture audio with the least amount of interference as possible. That audio has to then be converted from an analogue signal into a digital signal to be processed on a computer. These products are marketed as helping with the latter half of the processing chain when in reality all they do is interfere with the former half. The input itself as apposed to the processing. Adding cheap capacitors to your signal loop that aren't responsible for the processing at all but rather the clean input signal will always lead to severe sound degradation. Not shocked at all that if you were to input a clean SIN wave through a bunch of unnecessary physical hardware would mess it up before and during its processing into a digital waveform. Less is always more in Audio.
The penisrocket PC lives!!! I'm almost surprised that they haven't tore that apart yet, but maybe they're still meming it up enough to keep it around.
Honestly, on board sound is fine these days and even a usb sound card is smart enough to split a 5.1 into individual left and right, front and back channels.
Is that a new camera?
What’s the matter with you guys? The PCI sata is obviously for a Rasberry Pi 4. It comes with extra parts on the board that’s why they aren’t all powered up.. wow I thought you were techs 😅
My only complain is that you should have taken PC that really makes hissing noise. Old PCs, especially with bad grounding, produced thlse noise when HDD was busy, CD-ROM spin, mose move… It was annoying.
You take such PC and test those f-ing filters.
EDIT: I wrote this in mid of video 🤣🤣 Ignore it.
Why not just buy a high end motherboard, instead of installing all those junk.
In theory they can work but not in the way they are implemented.
Please do a noise floor test of expensive motherboards from well known brands who claim to have high quality audio vs a low budget mobo + external dac amp

I particularly liked the script and pacing of this video! Thanks for the interesting look into these scams.
Instead of paying for all this crap you could just buy a sound card 🙄
