Is this camera compatible with solar panels to keep the battery charged?
New Issue, with the Dec 7th firmware update, any time I stream video from one of these outdoor camera's, the image flips 180 degrees, I correct that in the app, and after a while it flips 180 again.
she said if up a tree it would be tough to charge. I wonder if you can bring the charge to the camera?
IT. IS. GARBAGE!!!!!! NO PLAYBACK, YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW SOMEONE WAS TRESPASSING, STEALING, FOR HOURS OR DAYS! IT'S GARBAGE!
Battery is not removable so have to pull down and bring whole camera in to charge, this is a deal breaker
Does the lens inside the Wyze Cam Outdoor…. do panning…. if controlled by the app on the cell phone? Or, is it always in a stationary position?
Can't you just leave it plugged in instead of charging it?
Amazing product
So the question begs to be asked, if you had a permantly mounted camera with a REMOVABLE battery, would it magically be easier to get to? Or in the case of your "up a tree" example, are you running power up there instead? You get a notification that the battery is getting low, take the camera down for a few hours while you're at home, then put it back up. Sheesh, so needy.
So I didn't get the person detection added on to my cameras I leave on a busy street people walk up and down this block all day ever since they blocked person detection I have not had a single recording of a person 1 of my cameras is angled across the front of the house and the mailman hasn't been recorded dropping my mail off now I'm wondering if wyze purposely made it to where people aren't recorded so you can buy the service
I have had 4 Wyze cameras in my house for 2 years. Nice way to get into a Security system gradually without shelling out hundreds of dollars all at once. Bought one camera at a time as I could afford it. Outdoor Cam is great for what I need. I have one camera 9 feet up in a tree, and my solution to charging without climbing the tree every 3 months is I ran a charging cable into the charging port of the camera and ran the cable down the tree to a point 5 feet off the ground. Once every 3 months I connect a little portable power pack to it for about an hour, and it's all charged up. I colored the cable with a brown magic marker so it blends in with the tree and doesn't look bad.
Question how did u mount it to the brick?
Is it crucial to have a base station? Couldn't an iPhone be used to install it and monitor the activities?
I have this at my vacation home and an Arlo Pro 3 setup in my main home. I can't complain for the money. The comment that it doesn't record all the time is a bit off since no battery camera records 24×7. You need a wired setup for that, so in that case get a dvr system. The 12 second clips are fine, the 1 min cool down not so much. However, the base station in the starter kit has a micro sd slot. Personally this is a good basic visual home protection tool but certainly not a full security system. Serves my purposes well, combined with a cove alarm setup.
Don't waste your money!!! Bad product. Horrible customer service… I mean NO customer service. I just received the Outdoor version a couple weeks ago and it already stopped working. There is no way to return on their website either. They do NOT back up their defective products. BUYER BEWARE!!!! I lost $65 dollars and they lost a loyal customer. Just for the record, I had no problems with the cheaper Pan cam & V2 cams I bought last year. It just sadly appears that if something doesn't work or is defective you are S.O.L.
Not a good review. As others mentioned, the biggest con with this camera is the 12 seconds max recordings. The SD card slot in the camera is almost useless the way the camera operates. The detection zone is not customizable. It records motion in the bottom half of the FOV and the only way to "customize" it is to….move the camera, up, down, sideways. Wyze missed the mark on this "Outdoor Camera".
Thanks for the review but it is incomplete. I can't trust a review without full test for the product. The motion detection is really slow and the range is really short in real life. Simply the product is not reliable for the security purpose and doesn't matter if it is cheap!
the 20 dollar v2 is the cheapest, just tape the ports and it wil work outside
Notifications are about 40seconds to your phone. Competition is 6seconds. What can happen in 34seconds?
This camera is crap, what did you guys test it for 5 minutes?
Why do i need the base station in order for the camera to work? The camera should be wifi and it needs to connect to the router and that should be it. I am not going to buy it since the base station is the stupidest thing i have seen recently when cameras are concerned.
Not so awesome for me. I have two outdoor cameras and the motion detection does not work correctly on either one. Tech support could no resolve the issue. Beaware.
The motion detection alerts are actually very slow sometimes up to 1 full minute to send a notification…. thats really bad !!!
How CNET can put this out there and still try to maintain any credibility is incredible. We tested these cameras, as did a lot of other channels and put up HONEST reviews of the camera. It’s riddled with problems and is pretty much unusable as a security camera.
This cam sucks. 12 second clips once per minute is useless. CNET loses credibility with me for this trash "review".
Obviously you did not use this camera to record a motion event. The camera cannot do this. It cannot record to the SD card for motion events. Wyze actually admits to this in their web support. Reason…..would take to much battery. Why give this camera a good review? The 50,000 people like myself bought this camera expecting it to record motion events. We spent $60 each for this camera ( that's a $3 million dollar scam). They haven't said I can return it and get my money back. When they do, I'll change my mind and might buy their brand in the future, until then caveat emptor!
It's not for me. I don't want to deal with batteries, and I don't want a base station. I would prefer simple WiFi and a small solar panel for power.
It's not that good. Because, it only records only 12 seconds that is not good. You need to records more then 12 seconds what if the burglar comes to the house and takes off with the good merchandise and not only that wyze outdoor camera has a wait time of around few minutes to record again. What a waste……
How about free cloud ?
The motion alerts aren’t quick, clearly you didn’t actually test this camera. Another reviewer showed that the notifications took almost a minute.
Just got mine today cant wait to hook it up
No it's not, it's total garbage. It doesn't record 24/7 onto the sd card like the v2 and pan cam does. Completely useless, I'm pissed off they didn't tell us this during the preorder. Who wants to buy this junk from me? I have no use for it since it doesn't even do what it's supposed to do
Whats difference if you have a regular wzye cam with a outdoor housing? No difference right?
