We don’t hate hybrid membrane-mechanical keyboards, we hate when the box doesn’t make it 100% clear that that’s what you’re buying. Despite the deception, is the Gaming Keyboard 550 from HP any good or should you stay very far away?

Comments

  1. I don't know about losing weight when you smoke, but you sure as hell gain a lot when you stop.

  2. HP had more, than just a gaming keyboard, but their other product was actually decent. My first branded gaming mouse was HP Omen x7000 mouse, it was actually decent, a little on the heavy side but overall not bad

  3. My last mechanical keyboard was 50$, and it was honestly great. Lasted me quite awhile and I'd definitely get it again.
I really don't see the point in all the super expensive ones that are 100+, there's just no way they justify that price.

  4. I type a lot and I would really love a mechanical keyboard. I tried a Logitech G413. But just like most mechanical keyboards its just a square slab. Extremely unergonomic. I'm currently using a Microsoft Sculpt ergonomic keyboard. It really helps a lot of with RSI. Just wish the switches were slim mechanical ones. There are a few 'tent' mechanical keyboards. But they are crazily priced.

  5. Linus, thank you 💙💛 !!! 👍

  6. Looks like a class act to me

  7. The tough thing is much of the advertising is true. They are red mechanical switches, but they are not the "Cherry Red" switches gamers are more conditioned to think about. You have to clearly know what you want and make sure they are selling what you want rather than just vague impressions.

  8. i want my harrier fighter i just collected my 7 million pepsi points. lol.

  9. HP is a garbage company. Just look at what they did to their printers.

    #boycotHP

  10. I agree. Both suks. Mechanical is not for all.

  11. I just tested the key rollover on my $34 Velocifire and I couldn't find a limit other than not being able to press both shift, ctrl, or alt keys at the same time. Plus it uses real mechanical switches. Just saying.

  12. 10kro is not only about how many keys you need to use at the same time. When you press or type too fast, you can easily press a key before releasing the previous one. So in a lot of cases you are pressing more keys than you would think.

  13. If any company or creators advertise talks about any product you can bet theres a higher cost because of it and people are weak and want everthing now.

  14. Really nice to see, that the lab finally provides the graphs of how a switch performs and feels!

  15. I game on a 10 dollar dell keyboard just fine lol, but not being able to press shift and space at the same time is sometimes annoying.

  16. Just as an offhand note, NKRO is short for n-key rollover, with n in this case as an easy shorthand for "the number of keys that are on the keyboard" (and more broadly in scientific terms, it represents an undefined value between 0 and +infinity) – meaning that an NKRO keyboard polls every key individually.
Also, 10KRO is supposed to mean that ANY 10 keys can always be detected – your rollover spec us supposed to be the minimum amount required to cause ghosting, not the maximum. Very deceptive.

  17. one question: which keyboard sucks more, this one or the tommy hilfiger one?

  18. tech jesus is linus

  19. Its like they spent 95% of the cost of a mechanical switch without the actual benefit.

  20. closier

  21. i play trackmania2020, on keyboard only. so I actually press 8 buttons usually.
HP's advertisement is actually misleading so that's a lawsuit.

  22. HP lying and selling cheap crap? That's their daily routine.

  23. Also, what an awful looking board.

  24. I've been using the same keyboard for five years but I always appreciate a review

wow, it redirects to dbrand LOL

  25. I mean this is literal fraud. There is no reason to make the switches seperate pieces and red like that, if not to fool the customer.

  26. This is the type of content of need. Shit all over these horrible marking scams.

  27. Or you

  28. The sad truth is that none of these cheaper keyboards, even 'mechanical" ones are designed correctly.
The entire reason you want a mechanical keyboard is to reduce stress and injury. Longevity and precision are welcome side effects of a proper design. It's a like a piano keyboard in that there's engineering that must go into it aside from just having a mechanical contact switch inside it. Specifically the way it bottoms out and rebounds is important as well. If you look at most Cherry clone switches, the center plunger that goes between the spring bottoms out before the spring is fully compressed. So there is ZERO benefit from this type of cheap design. And this is why membrane keyboards cause injury over time – you are hammering your fingers to the bottom of the travel to make contact or because the triggering point is not giving you feedback. Instead of pressing against a compressed spring.
This means that you want a higher force switch that is also tactile so that you know by feel when to release and not bottom out. Something like Cherry white or green for example. The cheap red and brown ones are extremely hard to make work right. Of course, the best design is something that uses something other than a simple plunger such that even when you do bottom out it isn't against a hard surface. Properly designed keyboard won't bottom out hard. Cheap $30 and $50 ones usually always do.

  29. Glad to see Redragon get a shot out. Been using them since 2014.

  30. Do better HP.

  31. STEELSERIES BEST PERIPHERALS!!!!!

  32. I honestly found dmc5 easier with keyboard especially with the summoner dude

  33. Linus, check out the Philips momentum mechanical keyboard, there are many versions of but I think they are all great to be honest they feel really high quality (too bad they are not hot swappable) but I never knew Philips could make anything good for a good price

  34. I have a question about the Case T-Shirt: Don't U get in trouble with Renault, due to copyright stuff?

  35. I feel like "Tech Jesus" should have had a Gamers Nexus shirt on 😂

  36. 4 or 6 key rollover prob wouldn’t get you through war thunder lol.

  37. 4:50 oh god i hope there's a story behind prop jesus I mean tech jesus

  38. Why Moore's stuff doesn't work for silent mechanical keyboards :')

  39. This thing is on par with the Ornata Chroma it seems ( not uncommon to find it on sale for like 40 bucks at a Wal-Mart ) except that has full RGB, two stage feet and costs not even half as much. HP took a fat L with this thing.

  40. LOL what!!!!???, i have this kayboard and its fine, but the crazy thing is, i have been folowing linus for like a dacade and its the first time that talks about a product that i owne, lol next do the Dell G3 series, or the Monster clarity series, lol thnks to check con the mid tear people linus

  41. Built a couple of glorious keyboards a little while back best decision I have ever made

  42. I'd buy an electric shoe if it helped save gas 😂

  43. Extremely well edited video, props to the team

  44. I always used to buy cheap peripherals, cause I thought it didn't make enough of a difference to warrant spending the money. I decided to shell out for a better peripherals with my latest build 2 years ago, and the difference has been mind blowing. I now use a Steelseries Apex 7 with brown keys and a Logitech G502 Hero. It's a larger, heavier mouse than many, but that's ok as that's actually what I want as I absolutely hate ultra light mice.

  45. Tell me you have never played StarCraft 2 without telling me you never played StarCraft 2.
"but Linus, I only HAVE 4 fingers and a thumb on one hand, I don't NEED 10KRO"

  46. From my earliest days of building PC's (30+ years ago), I have always looked at HP as garbage. They build it for the tech illiterate, and then abuse them with poor quality and even worst tech support. When I am looking to buy anything PC related if I see its an HP product it gets ignored, even if I have been seeing fantastic reviews. HP is among a list of about 7 or 8 (well known) companies I just avoid, period. I would be embarrassed if another PC enthusiast saw me using an HP product. I would feel the need to spend an hour making (lame) excuses as to why I had an HP product in my setup.

  47. ooof. someone gonna lose a job or get a pay cut

  48. But Linus, I only have two functioning fingers and a thumb on my right hand. I can't use 10 keys. lol

  49. Shock horror, people who run businesses lie, and they lie often to make their business a success.
Guess what, planned obsolescence is a thing, and product designers will go out of their way to ensure the product dies early.
It may or may not have escaped your attention, but this drive towards net zero, nobody ever mentions planned obsolescence, a bit odd don't you think?
