Well, there are some crazy sales happening recently and one 512GB Nvme SSD+ one of those was cheaper than a Sata SSD. And even if it's working at PCIe 2.0 speeds, it's still better than SATA.

They should actually be hot to reduce wear, it has a substantial negative effect if cooled. But also, you should not get burned when touching them during operation. 40-50degree is optimal.
Calling an m.2 drive a "hard disk" should be your red line to pass by it

How the heck you get an SSD to 87°C?! Mine barely gets to 65°C and I'm using a heatsinkless S41 TUF… (it HAD heatsink)

Use it in a closed tower configuration where the holes would be upright & it may help a little through convection, especially if got positive pressure above it from GPU fans, as the heat rises through the holes. ‘Sideways’ like it is on an open flat test bench won’t really allow the holes to help dissipate heat as it wants to rise naturally.

Well, actually plated through holes do transfer energy from one side of the board to the other and increase the surface area. You just neglected to install a thermal pad to take advantage of this.
