No matter where you go, you’ll see people debating the amount of cooling you need to make sure your CPU runs fast. With power hungry GPUs and computer cases that go a little too heavy on tempered glass it is important to make sure that your Intel Core or AMD Ryzen processor can run its best. But cooling can be expensive. So how much do you really NEED? Especially if you’re just gaming? Less than you think.

I actually love these episodes that are jam packed with data and have very little tomfoolery. Thanks bro. Aircooled FTW
What are you talking about? Base cooler that comes with the PC or CPU are good enough! And it‘s ‚free‘!
I get my friends to buy a Dark Rock Pro for their cooling because I know their lazy asses won't ever clean the bloody things and a caked-up Dark Rock Pro should perform about as well as a stock cooler so there's that.
i have a u12s with a 3000rpm industrial ppc fan lmao.
troll…..
Bought a Ryzen 5 5600X with the stock cooler never had ANY issues. I bought case fans instead of a cpu cooler to cool the entire case which works so far.
13900k gang here
Ugh. Just when I thought I couldn't get a lower opinion of NZXTs hardware
I have an nhd15 cooling an i5 11600k . Its complete overkill and i dont even care.. i totally overspent but my previous nhd14 cooled an i7 930 and a xeon x5675 for 10yrs 🤷♂️ . Totally reliable and temps under 55°c
3:00 Did LTT figure out how to manipulate YTs animated thumbnails? Because I'm watching this video solely because of this
6:08–6:12 i9-13600k? I thought that is i9-13900k or i5-13600k? Editing team, please fix.
Damn, I bought the noctua d15. Back when I had a Intel CPU, lile 9-10 years ago. Switched to amd in the meantime and went with the stockcooler, guess I habe to find the noctua again. Gladly I didn't throw it away 😅 luckily I don't have such power hungry hardware 😅
Just my two cents; In late 2021 I got the Thermaltake UX200 for my Ryzen 5 2600X to replace the factory cooler. It was quieter and kept the CPU cooler for sure, and even when our A/C was out last year and it was 85F inside I only saw barely a 5C degree increase over the temps while gaming compared to with A/C running and 73F inside. I paid $35 USD plus tax for the Thermaltake cooler. Even the i9 9900KF I have now doesn't tax the Thermaltake cooler enough to worry about.
Ive wanted a noctua for over a decade, when I bought it before my cpu, i knew, i'd be fine. I didn't realize that the 7950x is hot, but its fine.. no its not, I need a water cooler with like liquid nitrogen. Shits hot.
I keep telling people to skip the AIO and just get a Noctua NH-D15 but nooooo, they want the pwetty lights inside their magik box. My setup blew through two AIOs – Thermaltake and Corsair. Pump failure just at warranty cutoff is GG. Got me a Noctua and no problems thorough multiple upgrade rounds, runs silently since 2019.
Yesterday I swapped my Kraken X63 for a Noctua NH-U12A, one thing barely anyone mentions in AIO reviews is the possibility of getting a pump with coil whine when operating at high RPM. Couple that with the 4 or so cables that you need to manage and IMO that makes AIO coolers a big headache compared to air coolers. Sure, the X63 looked cool but the u12a runs quieter with similar temps and also looks slick, not to mention 2 cables to connect vs 4 (usb, pump, 2x fans).
Noctua might be more expensive than those cheapo tower coolers, but their support is top-notch who else gives brackets for new CPU mounts 7+ years into a coolers life time.
I have a x79, and that generation of cpu didnt come with a stock cooler. I bought a h100i, and replaced it 3 times since I have owned the pc the water dried up out of the loop. but the nhd 15s is like a heatsink that is going to never need replacing.
I have the white peerless assassin on a 12700k, runs great, can't complain at the sub 40$ price point. Great packaging too.
Went for a Deepcool Gammax 360 AIO (80€) on my lapped 3600 XT (O11 Dynamic Case). Works great, but the fans are not quite well designed. Got a Noctua A12 fan swap.
What about the amazing Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo?
I'm shocked you didn't mention coolers from Arctic 😦
NH-D15 user here 👋 Noctua FTW 💪
Good to see the lab coming through with the exhaustive data keeping em' in check for us Linus. It's a long-term investment which might not have the quick-bits of youtube-snazz, but it cements you as the legit interest I genuinely admire you for. I know you'll never link to a patreon or kickstart encouraging mass-puts on weapons manufacturers, but standing alongside the underdog innovations pushing the industry is worth it, even if they're sure to be hail-marys.
Which is better for the "furnace" i9-13900K?
The IceGiant ProSiphon Elite or the Noctua NH-D15
Why no 7800x3d and 7950x3d???
Unless you are doing CPU intensive tasks like compiling, gaming doesn't hit as hard.
I am a bit confused about your results. With my rig (R9 7950X + NH-D15) I never see temps below 95°C when it comes to production. Therefore the CPU throttles down to 4.9 GHz and that gives me a result of around 35.6k points in R23 Multi Core after 10 minutes. Any ideas what could be the issue? Thermalpaste is the NT-H2 by Noctua.
