Who’s afraid of the CEC? We did some digging to figure out just who or what will be affected by the new California Energy Commission’s regulations and built an energy compliant PC to show you that it’s nothing to fear. Or… is it?

Comments

  1. However limited the applicability of the regs, they are tyrannical and set a bad precedent (remember how income tax was "temporary" and would only every effect the "top 1% of earners"? Pepperidge farm remembers).

  2. The CEC doesn't have the authority to make those regulations. It's also ridiculous that they are worried about computers. This literally has no significant impact on anything.

  3. Many of these regulations seem so random and arbitrary lol

  4. Nvidia: Yeahhh, I'm gona pretend I didn't see that.

(Yes I know all the chip makers do this, Nvidia's just more fun to poke fun at.)

  5. how moronic is the government, instead of caring for bank collapse and inflation they are chasing stupid pc retailers

  6. F*** the CEC

  7. If we can't power computers, how are we gonna charger millions of electric cars?

  8. (1) LOVE the fact that Luke's setup relies on a post-it note foot
    (2) how about we solve this whole problem by allowing crypto to die a fast and painful death?

  9. Have anyone ever noticed, that Alex doesn't blink when he's looking into the camera?

  10. I bet the CEC hates crypto mining almost as much as a typical gamer

    lmao dell taking Ls again

  11. 11900k 241w peak load? yeah bro that's incorrect. It can easily draw well over 300.

  12. woha, a regulation designed for corporations and not the general public? who woulda thunk it?

  13. "there will be more computing than power", well that sounds like a great argument to redirect all that Uranium used in weaponry to power generation

  14. With more regulation probably coming. Soon there’s gonna be a cartel but for pc parts.

  15. 10 months later and nvidia announced their 4000 series to be blast furnaces

    so much for a change

  16. Well that problem we don't have it the Netherlands lol

  17. The REAL truth is they don't want civilians to have computers powerful enough to prevent them from spying on you. I strongly suggest someone start working on Daisy-Chaining power supplies together to make enough juice to brownout the neighborhood every time your CPU starts working up a sweat.

  18. how can you see how hot the cpu is?

  19. Idk the green zealots one day soon will likely force these companies to give them records of who bought these components and demand you turn in these items.

  20. C states? Pffffft who needs em

  21. I just bought an nzxt 750 bronze psu. Going with gold was triple the price but my system only runs about 325 watts full load so I'm still getting about 87% efficiency which is just 3% less then the nzxt 750 gold. And it's always best to only put your psu as close to 50% load for the best preformence.

  22. These regulations dont even save energy! They just incentivize manufacturers to:

    A. Build with better power supplies.
    B. Sell more powerful hardware
    C. Cut out mid-tier computers that don't adhere

    And incentivizes consumers to:
    A. Buy a slower computer that will need go be replaced much sooner.
    B. Buy a faster computer that will consume more energy throughout it's life.

Yet another shit idea straight out of Cali.

  23. Drop is such a good sponsor for linus

  24. Thanks for explaining things well about these new regulations. They still sound ridiculous to me but it's good to know as long as I build my own PCs for my work, I won't have to worry about these regulations.

  25. alex has learned well from the jedi master of droppn things lol

  26. While mildly frustrating, overall this is gonna be a good thing, especially when it comes to PSUs. This means that the quality should go up to be compliant with Title 20, meaning PSUs should be more efficient, and higher wattages/better efficiency should be a little cheaper too due to more competition. Was worried at first when I heard about this, but after watching this video a few times, that's been eased.

  27. We have the same gpu… except im sure you didnt pay what I had to. Thanks scalpers

  28. Tbh Alex always seems kinda nervous

  29. LTT Staff is super! Thanks for keeping me Techformed

  30. This is a stupid law, maybe if we here in california would stop closing clean, sustainable nuclear plants and replacing them with expensive, ugly inefficient unreliable wind and solar we wouldnt have to worry about "peak power" this is legislation to "remedy" bad legislation

  31. Proud to see the ram drop. Linus will be proud

  32. If he really wanted to build the most power hungry system at that time, my choice wouldve gotten to the amd fx 9590, this thing came with a watercooler in the box because of the eye watering 220w tdp

  33. Who cares about California's power restrictions?

  34. Government sucks, end the government

  35. The point of this story is that California is a shit hole.
