coulda sworn i said something about car content not long ago. either way, hell yeah! and take it out to the ridge or pacific raceways near seattle and olympia and take some hpde courses and pretend its asetto corsa but with hyper realisitc shaders. I live just south of yall and there are tons of car groups that would welcome an ev or hybrid on tracks.

I have so little interest in dealerships. I do get the value they add for manufacturers because they are a service interface for the manufacturer so they don't need to invest in those services. But the dealership experience is so varied that many customers are getting vastly different experiences. Some a run well. Many are not. And in many places, dealerships are effectively becoming massive monopolies owned under a singular group across many major cities over an entire state or states.

What's necessary is car manufacturers need to develop hard coded guidelines of business, of profit, of any metric that influences the consumer experience, and force a standard and a fair sale. Dealerships shouldn't be effectively scams.

So, what's the right way to go about this?

I don't really know.

You either don't buy used and simply work in the classified space with direct sales. Most of my car ownership has been this route, and surprise, no added fees, no shady monetary tactics. It's just one person selling a car to another person, done.

Your alternative is to shop around. When you know you want a particular car, shop around to many dealerships and learn about them. I've personally had good success with a couple purchases just by going one state over into a space that didn't yet have a large monopoly on the business. It was still a lot of smaller owned dealerships, and they were competitive and fair. I've had several good purchase experiences this way.

And that's kind of the game. Your experience is often heavily influenced by your location. Your local dealership ecosystem will greatly influence the buying experience, the availability, and the end cost to you. This can easily be many thousands of dollars. Even in my own state, I can travel all of 80 miles and readily pay $3000 to $5000 less for the exact same car simply because of the local ecosystems in play.

I will also note that some dealerships are more honest about the more difficult to get cars, and some make a solid effort (within their means) to attempt to create any opportunity available for you. Manufacturer allocations may make some cars nearly impossible though, especially to smaller dealers that would offer fairer prices. Although I haven't done it, I would think these dealers would work far better for direct order. You will still have to wait, but you could spec and buy a rare car from the manufacturer and buy through the fair dealer without wild markups or them selling your car to someone else because they were offered more.
