Steam deck only has 720p. I just connect duel shock 4 to my 12 inch tablet. 720p lmao thats like 20 year old tech.
Apple saying the surveillance technology is for "child abuse" is just a way to make it so that people are scared to say that it's a major problem and shouldn't be allowed. It makes you feel like you are saying we shouldn't protect children. However I'm impressed linus publicly stood up for what is right because I can see most people bowing down to this infringement. Child abuse Is awful and terrible but scanning and monitoring people's personal devices is wrong also. I don't know the solution for child abuse but this isn't it. Our fear of letting abusers get away has locked up many innocent people, our fear of letting anyone get away with anything has locked away tons of innocent people honestly. The fact is half these rapist and abusers are getting probation and slaps on the wrist but just wait till apple starts "prosecuting " people. Going to jail for illegal drugs when you served a picture of your weed in Texas. Risky!

So is proton a compatibility layer built into Steam OS, and if it is does that allow us to run any Windows executable (not just games) on Linux?
Any idea if the steam deck will support Freesync on the local display, and what frequency range will it support it at (if at all)?

It is a pc but. It’s handheld.

It’s a perfect fit for battery life and performance.
Using a 1080p and switching to 720p
Could make the game a bit more blurrier then using 800p and switching to 720p
The screen would look better then switching it on the 1080p
If you don’t believe me go try it your selves for the people who keep saying it should have 1080p

Funny when you did all spec but where the battery life is the more important question. Is it going to last long with high performance.
Can you pirate games with windows in steam deck?
Separate comment about Apples scanning technology… What I find scary is that they are spearheading it with the conversation about preventing child exploitation. This technology would never be considered acceptable otherwise, but based on this one use-case we might end up allowing it on all of our phones one day. Once it's there, it will NOT be used solely for that one purpose. They've made it very hard to argue against, but I don't think the fundamental technology is ethical. Also, all you'd need to do to avoid it is to buy a point and shoot camera and don't use your phone to share image… So the technology is very easy to bypass, yet we are thinking about installing it in every phone where it will surely be used for other purposes which we might not be so keen on.
I really have no prediction here about how big or how small the market for the Deck will be, but for me as a casual gamer it could possibly usurp the purchase of a gaming computer. I have a very old (but working) gaming PC and a brand new regular laptop. I was considering buying a new gaming PC soon. But if the reviews for the Deck remain positive, I will opt instead to replace my gaming PC with this and to create a docking station to swap it with my regular laptop as needed. I'm only one person, but this is replacing a potential Windows PC sale with a Steam-branded Linux device. That would have been very unlikely before.

The answer is POWER. People, most notably men, who behave as Kotick and Trump does, it is all about the power. They believe no one is better than they are and they are untouchable. They believe that they have all the power and everyone else have none. When they or their power are threatened they become aggressive, abusive.
So… Linus… Steam deck release delayed until AT LEAST February ¿Any thoughts about it?

We just need a 7” CRT running at 1080p for the next steam deck. I’d be happy to lug it around. With our new understanding of how screens work we could make them much smaller and lighter now.

I love that Doom is the one of the allowed games to test on this new thing. Doom truly runs on everything :D. (I know its not the OG but i still love the thought.)
I personally hated the steam controllers track ball system, although the touch pads on the steam dack seem awesome
Something to keep in mind.. Because this is running Linux behind the scenes, those of us with 10GbE network and a NAS can easily use NFS for storing our steam game library remotely. With a couple good written scripts you could "sync" up your most played games to the device before you use it on the go, so you dont have to be stuck on LAN. What hasn't been mentioned is whether this thing will have WiFi 6, which I presume it should.
Curious would I be able to play activation games (War zone, modern warfare, Cold War, vanguard) and MMO games (New world, FFXIV, Guild Wars 2) on the steam deck?
Man, I am so glade I never got into WoW. That CEO literal talked about taking the “fun” out of making games.
I get the slippery slope privacy thing.. but I personally would be willing to BEND the rules for the sake of keeping children safe.. bend is the key word though.
