  1. Thanks for watching! Trying out a bit of a different format in today’s video, so I hope you like it.
How to set up these automations: https://smarthomesolver.com/reviews/how-to-set-up-10-automations-my-wife-loves/

  2. But living with a totally technically challenged wife is far more difficult.

no offence but jokingly your wife has a lot to deal with. All of your automation ideas are just so tacky and useless. But then again it's not your fault. Most automation ideas are crap. This reminds me of your smart water faucet video that dispenses water at the right amount. perfect for someone with no arms or legs and has palsy.

most people should just keep smart home as simple as possible so they don't become a part time IT administrator and enslaved to their house's gadgets.

  3. You should read the veldt

  4. I have have Kasa remotes to turn my heat tapes on in the attic to keep my gas furnace condensate from feezing when it’s draining to the outside of the house.
Is there and app I can use to turn them on automatically when the outside temps go down to freezing?
    I also have SmartThings.
    Thanks

  5. Microwave radar wave sensor I think is the new one.

  6. That piano setup is a $1,000 wi nner!

  7. Are these automations built in the Alexa app? I’m currently using HomeKit but considering a from scratch rebuild after I move. Also considering switching to android.

  8. a light switch might work too

  9. Hey, this is not JerryRig video!

  10. The actionable notification is exactly what I’ve been wanting from the Roomba app for years. I had no idea this was even possible as a custom solution,… super excited to try it

  11. Automation is a joke. A 1980s Teddy bear has more tech. Turning lights on and off, seeing who is at the door, instead of walking 10 steps. My so called smart lights work 50% of the time, and when Alexa turns stupid i just turn them off by hand and how the hell does my barking dog make the lights turn on. I have come out of my bedroom in 4 in the morning to find all the smart lights on. The ring doorbell, notifies us about the time the person at the door thinks were not home and starts to leave. I'm retired and I build robots, been an engineer for 3 decades and i have more fights over this stupid tech that should be far easier and more universal. Its about time for AI tech that works with everything. My favorite, laying in bed, Turn off bedroom lights….One goes off, one goes to 50%, ok turn off lights again, wow so glad i didn't walk 4 feet to turn it off.

  12. Your automation for opening the window instead of running the AC does have aa flaw though; it does take humidity into account. In a perfect scenario it would also check the absolute (not relative) humidity inside and out as well

  13. dammn, that garage light flashing is a true safety measure man. Never thought about those kinds of things, smart home is not only comfort. Its also family safety using your existing stuff with some smart programming. Realy interesting stuff 😀

  14. Great content and ideas!!
Could you post or link the app used to automatize them?

What software are you using to setup the automation?

  15. I'd love to see what happens when your Internet goes down.

  16. Thanks, great video. Seeking approval of the spouse or family is a must indeed.
I've taken the idea of NFC tags, and already implemented a couple Automation around the house based on tag, but you mentioned in the video you restricted some automation to only allow your wife to scan the tag (to avoid kids abusing it). How do you recognize gnose who scanned the tag in an automation? Or how do you limit it to only one user/phone? I can't find any such trivial condition. Thanks in advance.

  17. Lol, one of my main automations is for the piano lights too. I love your vibration sensor idea. What I ended up using was a radar presence sensor pointed at the bench, which turns on the lights as you sit at the bench.

The problem with turning off the lights when done, is that sometimes someone will wander into the room while the piano is being played and sit on the couch and start reading, and it's no bueno to turn the lights out of them as soon as the first person is done playing. Still working through the best way to do that….

  18. Great vid (like all your vids). I alway find new ideas or helps to spark other ideas. Question – The new Smartthings contact sensor….where are you still finding them? Are you using the new Aeotec version?

  19. I have enjoyed watching your channel for a long time but this video finally got me to subscribe. Thanks for all your videos and the fun family tidbits you sprinkle in them.

  20. Nice video, but it will be more useful actually showing how to to it instead

  21. Love the channel. Can you offer some suggestions for how to make the smart home “wife friendly” regarding interaction with the home? We struggle from our setup not recognizing us as individuals. Her voice/my voice. Geofence conflicts. Maybe a great video idea to present her side of the experience.

  22. 1:19 👀 batman?

  23. This is a bit older video, but you having the Broadlink Wi-Fi smart button in it reminded me to ask. I have one, but I can't get it to stay connected. My router, an Asus RT-AX86U, the remote button, and the S3 hub are all within 10 feet of each other even. I tried new batteries, moving the hub closer to where the button mainly gets used, and closer to the router. If you see this comment, does anyone have any suggestions? I really like the thing. When it works, it's awesome. Unfortunately, I spend more time reconnecting it than using it.

  24. How about a video on the 10 Home Automation installs your wife "HATES"!

  25. 3:59 Years later when she comes across this video, "Really… $1 for that?… was I abused as a child?"

  26. So glad I found your channel! This is great content….I’ve been stuck with a Crestron system for the last 5 years that I absolutely hate!!! I’m a tech guy and had no idea about how much limitation the system would yield. Now I’m in the midst of moving to a new house which I will be setting up with similar tech to what you’ve been posting about. Great seeing all your ideas and experiences, keep them coming!

I found your channel last Fall when I started on the smart home journey. Your videos have helped me so so much, but thats not the reason I’ve finally decided to comment. This comment is because tonight after almost a full year of smart home and home automation iterations, my wife asked me to set up an automation and Google routine for her! 🙌 Im sure you can relate. After all the mishaps and wrong verbal queues, lights automatically turning on at 6am on a Saturday morning, this feels like she is finally 100% on board with the smart home transition. (70+ devices and a year later) 🤣 But hey, its a huge milestone!! Thanks again for you content.

  27. 스마트한생활과 스마트한 소득연계! 부럽네요.

  28. for the open window automation:

can't you just set it to "if outside temp is within range, and inside temp > outside temp"`?

  29. What app do you use

  30. I love your channel and really likes how you do it and laughs a lot with your sketchs family. You give me a idea, but is complex about how can i open my outside automatic gate for car and my dogs doesn't escape 😮‍💨. I'm thinking of produce a sound that they have previously associated with a prize they go to the inside, the detector sensor works, free a snacks and some (i'm thinking yet) close the dog door and later open the outside gate (this is easy with a broadlink) to get car inside my property.

I need this, because i can't use my automatic door because i must first lock them and later back to the car and open the gate (and automatic door practically hasn't sense if i must go down).
Anyway thanks a lo for you channel.

  31. What software is that?

Why not just say "Hey Google, turn off all lights"? You could even configure it so, that it will only be done if you or your wife says it.

  32. Do you run home assistant on a raspberry pi or virtual machine or what? I am currently running if off a Raspberry Pi but wonder if I will see benefits hosting it elsewhere

  33. Aww Luna don’t listen to him, you are cute 😍❤️

  34. how did you make the robot vacuum cleaner work when no one is home?

  35. question about the garage door lights. I think this is an awesome idea, but if you get home and walk in the house before closing the garage door, do the lights still blink? Or is there some sort of override or a way to tell it to only run when you have been home more than X minutes? That seems like it could get messy with 2 adults coming and going, to not flash the lights all the time.

  36. Does he use android equipments for these automations?

  37. What kind of garage lights are those? Are they smart?

  38. What is that black screen that you're usually on when you say "I created an automation" for etc etc. ?????

  39. Question can u do an automation say if u have a 13 yr old who turns his playstation and tv on one when he's suppose to be asleep at 2am can alexa detect that and turn it off on him also send a push to the parents cell to let them know 🤔

  40. How would I create an automation for my Google Nest protect smoke and carbon dioxide detector to trigger a set color on led lighting?

  41. Great inspiring video! Thanks

  42. To turn all the lights off in my house all I have to say is goodnight echo

  43. The ending of this vid is epic!!😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

  44. Seriously? How about learning her to turn on the light also, besides learning her to play the piano (wich is so great I think!)? It's just a funny joke right?😂

  45. New to home ownership and medium to home automation; what application (Apple app?) are you using to control and program everything?

  46. What hub are you using to connect all your devices and what is the app you are housing on your iPad to do the automations and code
