Had the same Jnco 34" pants in your cut. Big up 98'

  1. I've never given a crap about battery life. Never understood it. There's always a solution, either the wall, or worst case a battery extension I guess, but even still. That goes for literally every device I've ever owned lol

  2. Does it run Linux?

  3. Personally the reason I daily driven a laptop for well over 10 years now (and I only stopped recently for because I have to change the motherboard again for 60 bucks and I'm too lazy for that so I run on my desktop and switched to using my phone for some tasks which I normaly never do outside of emergency situations) is because of the mobility.
In a my day-to-day life, I use my laptop from my bed, my desk in my room, can change to the living room or bring it over to whomever I want to show something to when I need, I can also bring it to university and later work, but also at a friend or collegue's house, I can also use it when I'm on the move (I used to have 4h of train commute to go from home to university), like having a laptop is non negociable. My price range is 500 to 600€ on sales since that's laptops that would otherwise be nearing the 1k€ mark in actual value which are decent, and honestly while it's hard to find a great one there's certainly a lot of very solid options.

Fyi, what I look for is sufficient performance to do what I need it to do, legacy ports and backup hardware and then the rest is comfort:
I run mostly old stuff so having type C stuff is actualy a turndown since I have no type C cables or anything except my very last phone (the 6 previous are all microUSBs), everything is type A outside of the screens and projectors using VGA, DVI or HDMI; so having a VGA or full HDMI port is more than welcome, I also require an ethernet port because I often go to places that simply do not have wifi as an option. Having at least 3 type As is a requirement because 1 will always be taken at all time for my mouse and a second one will be taken everytime I game because I have my games on an external harddrive (I don't want 5 copies of the same game installs when I can just have 1 on a drive that I can just plug and unplug from a given computer as I need, that also means I can play regardless of it being my computer or not) so I need a 3rd port to plug some USB stick or a hub or whatever else could be needed without having to lose my mouse or games, having an audio jack is also mandatory since I never listen to any audio without an headset of any description (therefore I couldn't care less about the quality of the speakers); I also enjoy the convenience of a decent webcam and microphone since that's peripherals I don't have to buy like I would for a dekstop and since it's integrated it has significantly less setup and driver issues than a desktop. However it being top spec is something I don't realy care about, it's like a big trackpad I profoundly do not care since I solely use external my mouse and often when it's big I outright disable it in windows so that it doesn't annoy me by acting "on its own" unintendedly. I also don't care about the tactile response or flex in the keyboard, I only care that when I press a key, it's only that one that is pressed, not a nearby one or it not registering that it got pressed. However I appreciate a short travel time since I type a lot; because when you loose 10ms to pressing a key as it's a mechanical switch instead of a membrane switch you actualy just lost several hours at the end of writing a single chapter let alone a novel and time is a luxury that I don't want to loose like most people, especialy for something as insignificant as a key press. (I would appreciate very short travel mechanical, my problem isn't with mechanical keyboards being mechanical, just the travel time being horrendous; however the few instances of those are rare and expensive and outside of Dell's semi membrane semi mechanical thing, I haven't realy seen any low travel mechanical switches used on laptops)

(Personal choice but since android security is so infamously bad I use my phone for as little as possible so I only use it as an alarm clock; a clock proper; listenning to downloaded music; a wifi hotspot for when my ISP fails or I'm on the move; a backup for when stuff is down since for as little as I normaly use it, it's still a portable mini computer; and finaly emergency phone call/SMS (I have a no news = good news policy so if I SMS or call or even discord DM to some extend, it means I actualy genuinely need help or something), and thats it; furthermore the games I play and softwares I use either don't have a phone version at all or the phone version is notoriously bad or has severe ergonomy issues that are making me loose so much time that it takes less time to simply don't do those on phone and wait to do it later when I have a computer even at the cost of screwing my sleep schedule than doing it on the phone)

And I also don't want a more ""mobile"" desktop because even with the better small form factors you still have to carry a mess of cables and peripherals that's horrendously more annoying, bulky and heavy than even the more bulky laptops. So while I do have a desktop that I kept for intensive loads where having that dedicated GPU was necessery (mainly games), I usualy just daily drive a slim but powerfull laptop with a high power CPU and a strong discrete GPU like some of the higher end ryzen 7s. Often those laptops would outclass most desktops I could use outside of gaming or activities that actualy require VRAM which honestly is mostly certain specific games since most games I play and my professional modelling workloads require regular RAM and don't use the GPU much if at all. (At least even on desktops I've never seen CREO, CATIA or Solid Work put any load on the GPU; might be a settings thing but we get demolished if we change the settings maintained by the higher ups so )

  4. Bargain hunting is absolutely the way to go at the ~$500 pricepoint. I was able to get a 14", 2240×1400 IPS display, i5-1240p, 16gb memory, intel wifi 6e wireless adapter, 51wh battery. Basically all the essentials + a high resolution 16:10 display for $550.

  5. If only this video came out a week ago….i bought the hp 15s shown in the video. Man i feel bad

  6. This is now the second Alixpress laptop Linus has liked(to my memory)

  7. Why am i seeing this only now after i bought an HP 255 G10 for 429€

  8. When did ethernet jacks stop being a thing in laptops?

  9. Chuwi made some interesting devices in the past. For example they made tablet which officially had dualboot: windows and android.

  10. I use my LTT store backpack for work. I work in Video Production. While on a shoot on location I saw someone else in the wild with an LTT store backpack. It was trippy.

  11. I will never understand the reasoning behind choosing a laptop over a desktop system when you're working with demanding workloads, like yeah you can take it to work or whatever but you trade off so much processing and total consumption power for that convenience and if you really needed a personal computer at work then you could always remote into a desktop or build a small form factor system.

Figuratively, it feels like you have cut your arms off to finally fit through that gap in the wall but actually, you need your arms and you could've just turned sideways and shimmied through. Weird analogy but that's how bizarre it seems to me.

  12. Wake me up when they start making laptops with decent keyboards again.

  13. i usually don't like whirrrr but that is a fine whirrr

  14. The difference between profit margins. The HP likely has far greater profit margins, as a company HP are incredibly anti-consumer and likely tried to maximise profit margin by cheaping out on the components.
Meanwhile the Chuwi probably focused on how much they could fit in for the price point. accepting a lower margin in the process.

  15. Cacheless SSD's often use Host Memory Buffer (HMB) so it's not quite as bad as made out 13:13
HMB will hold some mapping data to speed things up.
If you're buying a budget laptop, then you aren't a power user, so cacheless SSD's won't pose any noticeable bottlenecks to the system.
The thing to watch out for is TLC vs QLC SSD's.

I prefer SSDs with DRAM, but having recently purchased a 4TB Lexar NM790 4TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD cacheless SSD (3000TBW /5years) for AU$265 (normally AU$319), it's a fair trade off vs the cheapest 4TB SSD with DRAM cache the XPG GAMMIX S70 BLADE (1480TBW/5Years) for AU$415.

Now comparing to my other recent SSD purchase, the Crucial P5+ 2TB for AU$192 (1200TBW/5Yr) which is currently AU$227 (I tend to shop wisely and wait for good pricing) the main practical difference in performance is with 4K random write speeds which admittedly isn't great on the Lexar, but that's the only synthetic benchmark where the performance is a letdown and real world benchmarks don't show any performance issues.

There's quite a few cacheless SSD's on the market that have comparable performance with DRAM SSD's at significantly lower prices and in a budget laptop, you won't notice the difference and probably not even in a high performance laptop unless you need the iops.

I think both are not good purchases. One has a terrible battery and SSD, the other has a terrible screen and keyboard and no USB-c charging. Rather than saving up for a better ssd, maybe just save up for a slightly more expensive laptop. Personally I'd never go for anything without a touchscreen anymore by the way, I like to have one hand on the screen and the other on the trackpad.

  16. I found the librarian analog to the DRAM/less SSD to be quite accurate and makes the concept easy to grasp!

  17. To me it doesn't really matter how long I'm gonna be streaming content for on battery since I'm probably gonna run it plugged in if I'm watching something for longer than 3 hours, especially if it has USB C PD because my charger is always next to my bed or couch (where I'd realistically run it on battery for that kind of use case.
If I'm on the go and I'm working on a spreadsheet or word document for college or work that's not really gonna be draining my battery all that much.
For the price I'd rather get the Chuwi with a nicer display (simce that is a BIG deal for me and most of my friends and family) over the HP with a lack luster display and mushy keyboard.

  18. Did you find any spyware on the machine ?
10 years ago I was working on a project for the Australian govt in Shanghai and were under strict instructions that all pieces of tech needed to be purchased in a western country as computers sold locally within China , had back doors built in so the govt could see what you were up too .

  19. A second hand macbook

  20. I belive that you guys want the hypnos nonsens to age well

  21. My wife has that HP laptop, or some couple year old iteration of it. We needed a quick replacement after our old laptop died, and picked that up at Costco for a really solid price.

  22. Soldered non upgradable RAM and 160 bucks for 16GB upgrade. HELL NO Apple buisness model. Also it has two USB ports despite its emptiness inside. btw How about service in EU?

  23. One "life hack" for small laptop batteries is to just bring a 26800mAH powerbank along with you(Or however much you need. That's just how much my 6 year old Ravpower one has.). I would do that all the time with my GPD Win 2. I would just have my powerbank in my pocket with a wire leading up to the miniature laptop in my hands. You just have to be careful to get one that can actually output enough power for the laptop to register and charge from it. The GPD Win 2 for instance needed 12V or 15V and would not charge on 5V.

I mean, if they can't fit a big enough battery in the laptop, who says it has to be "in" the laptop? 😉

  24. Man those $500 HP’s from Best Buy must be made of paper Mâché or something. I work at a small PC repair shop and I swear im having to fix hinges on those things once a week. No exaggeration.

  25. $250 for a f**king bag wtf 😮

  26. If it can charge with usb-c, could you get a powerbank for it and get the best of both worlds?

  27. Never use that website

  28. 3:53 I literally ordered this laptop for 600€ a few days ago so it's a bit worrying to see you saying the wifi is going to be slow. I was mainly impressed by it having an oled and a good processor.
If anyone is interested I can review the wifi speed when it arrives in a few days

  29. Biggest issue with Chuwi is… swollen batteries! Basically all models are suffering with this issue and Chuwi Support is being close to none.
