  1. All this talk of "throwbacks" and "ancient hardware" is freaking me out. I still run an EVGA 970. These are current events to me. Next episode, let's talk about the inaccessible VRAM scandal! I got $30 from NVidia in a class-action suit. Rather have the VRAM. Turns out that stuff is pretty important if you want to know what rendering engines can do these days. I hear it's bonkers.

  2. that case is hugeeeeeee

  3. Probably one of best videos you've made in long time.

  4. The greatest member of the LMG team in a long time, in my opinion, is Colin. always brings value to anything he does.

  5. I still have a 980ti, with windows 10 or 11 with proper up to date drivers it runs great. As powerful as a 1660 and can run most modern games well. I have mine with a ryzen 5 and it is great. Uses a lot of power but its still a great card

  6. 9:40 holyy that size difference between the 980tis and 4090 made me spit out my cereal from laughing

  7. It would be interesting to see if assigning the game process to a single cpu would make any difference on the low fps parts

  8. Stop cheaping out on your amount of ram!

  9. Wasn't the Steam stopped the support for Windows 7??
How the heck it can run still???

  10. I still have this exact board, a pair of Xeon E5645 CPUs that I used on it, and two of the three EVGA GTX 980ti SC+ cards I used in a later build (ASUS Z10PE-D16 WS with two Xeon E5-2620v3, which I bought new retail at the time).

The SR-2 I have was actually meant to run dual Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition cards, which I got new retail and to this day have never used.

I had too many issues with my SR-2, even with the latest BIOS releases.

It was set up with 12x8GB DDR3-1333 ECC RDIMMs, and a couple of LSI SAS HBAs, because the onboard SATA sucked too much.

BSODs were common. Too common. Hence why I switched to the 2011-v3 platform.

  11. so what we learned, sli was a big waste of money

  12. Try the quad SLI with a newer platform to see just how well the 980 Tis stack up.

  13. The jedi fallen order and survivor are such unoptimized garbage of games…

  14. linus loves overcocking cpu

  15. Why do I just love old hardware?

  16. Overclocking…yes I do, but unlike in the past, it's not possible to get the same big improvements in speed as it once was, with a maximum of 10% more (effective) speed possible these days. The best overclock/unlock of the past for me was the old Gainward Geforce 6800LE, with officially 8 pixel/vertex shaders, where it was possible to unlock to the full 16 pixel shaders and vertex shaders. overclocked the gpu from 300mhz to 450mhz, and the Ram was matched 350 to 450mhz. The heatsink was a zalman gpu cooler with heatpipe. The result was a card that matched the much 3x more expensive 6800 ultra, with Double (effective speed) the results of the original card with 3dmark 01/03, and I think 06, and I remember for a 6800LE I had the record with that combo. This card lasted 3-4 years with a bios mod for all the settings, after a soft mod for testing. The CPU was also overclocked of whatever it was I ran at the time (Amd Athlon 64 2800+.) Big Air cooling was the answer, and still is, but the methods are different, due to everything throttling down to save power, and just not quite as stable.

  17. i know you guys are (mostly) Family friendly but what about the in built benchmark in gta v

  18. how about dx12 multigpu??

  19. If I recall, the original Tomb Raider reboot was one of the few games to actually scale well with SLI

  20. who is this guy. he sounds like linus.

  21. man i want those gpu's…

  22. This clean shaven linus seems less trust me bro.

  23. Some of the 1080s use sli and readily available. It would've been bonkers to seee that..

  24. Damn I really miss EVGA.

  25. I'm currently using single x5675, p6t x58 motherboard, 24gb 1600 ddr3 ram, single gtx 1070 on windows 11! Why does my setup run so much better than Linus sr2?
Apart from lack of AVX support, it plays many recent games very well (at medium settings at times)

  26. have you had an exfoliation linus?

  27. What you were experiencing in Witcher 3 looks like the amazing and revolutionary technology of Nvidia Hairworks.

  28. Wait.. I thought this was an old video😆

  29. 4 Way SLI with CUDA and dual CPU is one of the best for deep learning.

  30. Missed opportunity to use the old intro!
