You forgot to mention my first console – The ZX Spectrum. And yes I´m old
For me to this date it was revolutionary, and had a lot of great games for the time.
And don´t forget that loading times, for everyone who as ever played with the ZX Spectrum, you can´t forget that sound of loading a game.
Yes I know it could be used for work as a computer, but the gaming capability, for me, makes it a console like experience.
i know these were just consoles but my favorite gaming device of all time is the DS lite
PS5 was really a huge promise over the PS4. Use of not just any SSD, but a frigging pcie gen4 SSD and making it upgradable was crazy! adding to that 12gb of ram / vram combined with a 6700xt / 7700xt type gpu in 2020 was cherry on top.
Where it fell short of course (being high on that hind site drug you talked about) is the game library. and its not that Sony did not want to take more risks, but it was the games which stopped innovating. Besides new GoW, and LoU 2, we did not have much at the launch and given that those titles were available on PS4 was a nail in the coffin.
its easy to say now, that console adoption rate by developers was slower than that by the gamers. game development has become slow and costly, forcing the studios to support older generation of consoles to lieu as many gamers as possible with their new titles.

I agree with everything other than the PS4 being S tier. I'd put that a an A tier.

I love you showed Chrono Trigger as example for "best ever" cuz it is the best ever.
It would be nice if Nintendo would quit the console scene and just make games (though probably not profitable). There are a few good Switch games worth playing but the Swtich itself is just plain bad. Not the idea itself but the execution, giving underpowered HW even at the start of the lifecycle (similarly to Wii and Wii U). And if I don't want to enjoy 720p/30fps gaming and would rather play through an emulator (with goodies like 1440p/4k and 21:9 support) that's legally dubious even if I'd buy the game itself just not the HW. So yeah not a fan of modern Nintendo consoles but like the handled craze the Switch started.
