Be aware if you have a multi 'monitor' setup where you only use one at a time (in my case a monitor and a TV), that flash mode will select what it considers as your default display. I was on my monitor trying to update my bios and when I entered flash mode through the bios, my screen went blank and remained that way and I thought that I had messed up. What happened was the computer/bios chose my TV as the default 'monitor' and output the video signal to that (which I did not initially see because I had it turned off). If you get a blank screen like I did, check your alternate output source(s) if you have any.

I updated my Asus z790 about 6 months ago. but I have a 13900k. I haven't experienced any of the crashing issues that have surfaced recently, but I will still update to the current version. I hate doing it because if there is a power outage while its updating, you are screwed
Policy regarding BIOS revisions vary between manufacturers. Most will spell out the major differences in a new BIOS release while a few are very stingy about the actual changes. I remember one manufacturer that never published anything but the actual BIOS version and nothing about just why it was released. I remember one time getting a change document from a technician. Turned out there were information from several businesses including Siemens who used that motherboard in some machines. They had discovered a compatibility problem with some expansion card that this BIOS would fix. Now there were nothing on the motherboard manufacturers site about any of this, just that they had a new BIOS version. I was always checking the BIOS versions and downloaded every new version so I could upload them to our own servers for our customers. BIOS, drivers, firmware for graphics cards. We mirrored everything. A lot of our customers got antsy if you asked them to download anything from the manufacturers site. They wanted one contact and one website to handle everything. Most of it was fine, but I never had a chance to check the Apple Macintosh compatible firmware for the graphics cards we sold. Never got a complaint either so I guess they worked fine.

Bought MSI b660m mortar 2022, everything worked perfectly fine. Upadated to the latest BIOS version and the system would just NOT save the Fan curves, the system would work with fans at blasting 100% rolled back and it worked just fine. Not upgrading my CPU any time soon so don't really see a point. If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

i’ve had a problem with my mother board that says wifi on the box, not having wifi, i’ve updated and installed the corresponding wifi drivers but still no luck

I moved all my internals to a different pc case it ran perfectly fine for a while then as soon as I went to play a game it shut off and the cpu light on the EZ Debug came on
I had to update my BIOS in order for my 5800X3D to work on my ASRock x470. There are newer BIOS updates now for my board but I don't need it and don't care🤣 They are for AMD vulnerabilities which as I understand someone needs to be physically at your PC to do any harm, I'm good 😎

Did it yesterday for the first time ever, using the EZ Flash mode on GIGABYTE board. Easy 5 mins.
Yes you should update it when new security fixes or new CPU support is added. I’d say skip beta bioses, though.
When I built this PC first thing I did was update the bios, mostly because the 650 is a bit flakey but a bios update fixes all the issues, but generally no if the PC runs fine then no need for a bios update. Research your board because sometimes it is needed, but as a whole no and if you've built it and everything is stable don't mess with it as you don't need every update that comes out. I had to update mine to get it to see my 6000mhz ram speed, other wise it only saw it as 4800mhz till the bios update, again read up and check youtube lots of content creators making videos. Also a decent board has bios recovery in the case of power failure, not all do you can brick your pc if it loses power that's why you should only do it if its a performance issue, don't do it just because a new version came out, if its not broke don't fix it 😅
My bios is still on the version from when i built it in 2018 🤣I'm too nervous to update it and its still working so I'm leaving it. I want to upgrade to Windows 11 because I like the look of it but have put it off as I need to update my bios. Just the thought of my luck to get a power cut whilst doing it.
