  1. How much does having a LOCAL smart home matter to you? 🤔

  2. I don't see how you have so many wifi products. I recently started switching things to zigbee because there was too much on my wifi. Things kept disconnecting and the family complained about the connection all the time. Since I started moving everything to zigbee, it's gotten a lot better. I have the Deco AXE5400 with 2 extenders.

  3. That garage door setup could use a litte love… it looks hella dodgy 😀

  4. It would be interesting to see if you can rejig those automations using Amazon so that they work without it. Is it doing something home assistant can't do natively?

  5. I would be concerned about what would happen if the wifi network had been attacked and taken down by people trying to steal stuff from you. Would your doors still lock and unlock? Would the6 be subject to replay attacks? Would your security cameras still work? I’m not so concerned about the convenience stuff, it’s the security stuff I’m thinking about.

  6. What router are you using? I find that it's very much router depends on such situations. Some routers tend to "lose themselves" when the internet goes – some more than others.

  7. How can you make it run locally in your house? (my raspberry pi requires a ethernet connection for the wifi to work, still trying to figure out how to make it work just on wifi when it is online)
Also, can you control the doorbell's speaker (if it has one)?

  8. rename this channel to "Dumb Home Solver".

  9. duh, stupid video

  10. Reid get your ecobee brought into HA via homekit and it will work local. Thats how I get mine running flawlessly even if the internet goes down

  11. Papi needs a shave

  12. Well, with the Ring Pro hub you can STILL have the devices of your own choosing stay connected over it's cellular backup connection through the Erro app if you have the full 24/7 monitoring PLAN for $200 a year! My internet CONSTANTLY goes out in my area and my Pro Hub switches to cellular and keeps a few of my Alexa devices and choice cameras "connected" and as well as SmartThings can even still watch my YouTube TV since I CUT the cable TV cord. BUT, even better the Ring Pro hub will allow you to connect to the HOT-SPOT on your cellphone to keep everything "connected"! NO other alarm system offers this feature at this price. NOT even Vivant!
NO reviews EVEN mention this feature because I think MOST do NOT know how to set this up in the first place. It's a GEM and unfortunately have to rely on this feature quite often!

  13. Your Ring panel should have connected via the cellular backup. I would call support and find out what happened. I am able to view my system from outside the home even in a full power and internet outage.
I am surprised that the Kasa devices work. I thought they relied on the Kasa service. Ours don't run when the internet is down, but maybe they connect directly to Home Assistant w/o the service? If so, I'm sold on trying HA.

  14. The “chime” sound the wife is using for the on screen graphics sounds like the iPhone chime. PLEASE STOP.

  15. local tuya bro

  16. what presence sensors other than aqara that you are using? thx for the video

  17. Thanks Reed. I have a fair number of the KASA plugs/switches and they are great.

  18. He just wanted to prove the commentors wrong

  19. WeathFlowTempest can be connected locally to Home Assistant.

  20. Reed, brother, install the local_tuya intergration from HACS in Home Assistant.

Also, install the HACS version of the Weatherflow integration to allow local polling of the weather station; keep the core integration for forecasts and other entities that require server processing and disable the redundant entities.

Ecobee. Integrate that into homekit/a homekit bridge within Home Assistant for local control instead of the core HA integration.

  21. No matter devices in your home? They should work without internet.

  22. Tried this on my setup after your video, and everything works without internet, every light, motion & contact sensor, all my zigbee devices, air purifiers, even the vacuum worked.
The only missing things were some integration that rely on internet for my dashboard, such as spotify, or the weather. Other than that, my entire floorplan dashboard was working.
I'm so glad to see that I have a resilient setup !
