  1. I just watched a video about piracy and it's basically convinced me to start buying movies on blu-ray, now

  2. yarr me matie!

  3. I find it funny how media content platforms minimized piracy for a while only to make their services awful and push their users back to piracy… again. If it that isn't the definition of stupidity, I don't know what is. I gave up on my netflix subscription a year ago, bought a NAS and ripped all my blurays. There is a lot of work indeed but it's well worth it. New content on these platform is pretty shit nowadays so I don't miss them that much. If I wanna see a movie, I'll go to the cinema and if I like it, I'll order the bluray when available.

  4. Fix your hair.

  5. Just filled my first NAS and TV cabinet with BDs and DVDs. Feels good 😎

  6. I learnt some stuff from this video. Cheers. I'm glad I've barely ever been sucked into any streaming services. I always assumed the picture and sound quality would be the same as Blu-ray or people wouldn't be satisfied. Because I sure wouldn't be. But if Blu-ray picture and sound quality is so much better then Blu-ray for the win. Anything worth watching is worth watching well. There is the practicality side of things though… If you could easily download your own Blu-ray quality file and pay the fair price for it then this would be my preference. I've no idea whether this is a thing or not

  7. Linus with the Renault shirt again

  8. watch series online freee…….pirate bay…… why complicate things linus

  9. If you had a well maintained CD/DVD burner and burned it at 1X it would typically last FAR longer than if you burned it at 52x. But still mostly dependent on exposure to light and heat. I have 20+ year old discs that i burned back in the early 00's that read perfectly fine last year. Although!! remember that reading a burned disk also wears it out. So if you want to be VERY safe about it, immediately make a sector by sector clone of the disk at 1X before you even look at it's contents.

Consumer hard disc drives start data rot at about 5 years and higher grade and commercial drives at about 10 years. Although I've seen drives from the 80's boot up with no data rot after 20 years of no use, take that with a grain of salt as the physical data blocks on the older hard drive discs would also be much larger and quality was typically both easier on larger scale data blocks and the market at the time wouldn't allow for economic/cheap drives as no one was willing or knowing enough to make make them.

USB drives, about a year of being unplugged 😅some have controller chips that scrub the drive if you leave them plugged in and refresh the data, you'll notice they get really warm just doing nothing. Same happens with SSD's. I've seen QLC SSD's have data rot after just 6 months of no use 😵and can go into protection mode if they abruptly loose power a few times in a row. They'll seem dead but just leave them on for a few hours, if they get warm within about 10 minutes it means the drive is protecting itself and scrubbing the data.. or it has a short and will burn everything down 🔥🧑‍🚒

  10. The fact that its harder to backup legally purchased blue ray than to just download it is baffling

  11. bro what's with the hair

  12. Since when did Linus become a fan of Renault's ?!

  13. Linus sounding kinda American in the 1st minute

  14. Already did somthing like that do to there being no online streaming service for 3d movies ( i wannet to watch 3d movies with my VR Headset).

  15. I wonder if someday a big company will support owning movie files. I still buy blu rays… mostly 4k discs because I want the quality. I wonder if it would be profitable to sell the 4k data legally. So I would get the 4k file. I can download it within a week or so. Then the trade is done. No "streaming" costs for the provider. In addition this file has some kind of key and I get a certificate. So I got a streaming player, I got the 4k file, I got the certificate to play this file. That would reduce the costs, enhance the quality and of cause as long as someone owns both it is possible to stream it from one to another device.

Of cause it is possible to rip all the movies in possession and also "one that are not in possession" but I have to say, for me it feels like work to actually build this own streaming platform… and physical disc take up a lot of space 😀

  16. I agree that streaming sucks when i see a movie i want to watch and own the dvd i grab dvd it has better quality video at least 90% of the time. I even had v cds of old anime that had better quality video at times then on streaming platforms.

  17. Guys! Quick! Download this video and keep it offline! InB4 they have to end up deleting it for some reason.

  18. gift me pc 🙂 !

  19. I uh, acquired, a massive backup of my favorite show before it was taken down from any legal watching place on the internet. it sadly has a couple encoding errors, mostly subtitle desync. idk if its because of an error in downloading over 100gb or whoever made them fucking up, but it is a little annoying at times. I do also have all these items physically available on blu ray for collecting reasons, and I'm now considering going and updating that archive with rips straight from my own collection.

  20. Maybe it depens on where you live, but here in the EU backing up your legally owned media is NOT piracy

  21. Do you like tapes and CDs?

  22. Shortcut use FLV player after copy to your drive tadah no need shrink file size. If you can fit COD in your drive you can fit a movie in your drive it's miniscule in disk space.

  23. i wish LTT would at least try to show Linux alternatives, we're not all tech savants, just people who are tired of Windows

  24. I'd hardly refer to ripping a bluray as pirating. You own it, so you should be able to do whatever you want with it. It's only an issue if you started distributing it.

  25. 1:24 Freddy?

  26. TAKE CONTROL TAKE CONTROL TAKE CONTROL TAKE CONTROL

  27. But Linus, did you use soap2day back when it was still up?

  28. . . . . I've literally just decided to make digital copies of my legal media and this drops on the day I start investigating. . . wow

  29. Nha, i sticking to mercy of other internet Arrs for the rippong part

  30. Why does Linus look like the Adoring Fan from Oblivion now. He is even short enough…

  31. video starts at 1:40
    almost 2 minutes of fluff

  32. Now, how do I convince my aunts to USE my plex when their happy live tv

  33. Why do you have a renault logo tshirt ? A new collab ?

  34. 11:23 with tthe content protection in place you don't own the content on blu rays either. Its just another license.
They can revoke your drives access, they entforce sometimes more sometimes less expensive software players and its ultimatly a pain in the ass.
It just feels bad that you have to step over multiple laws to just play the discs in VLC.
11:45 They are however able to render your blu ray player or drive useless when they feel like it.

  35. I started my digital library in January and already am approaching 100+ movies. Also everything ist reencoded in av1 and it works great

  36. That whole "budget 20mil, makes 30mil, not profit" thing always makes me so flabbergasted 😳 😂

  37. Just seen this in amazon 😮

Can you help or stop people getting it way over priced

  38. The fact that this is coming up today right after getting into a tiff with autodesk about the fact that their perpetual licenses are in fact no longer perpetual but they are not going to refund me the quarter of a car that I paid for their software was all the encouragement I needed

  39. Second hand blu-ray prices skyrocketing

  40. I feel like this movie is about 10 years too late… who still buys Blurays these days?

  41. The LTT legal team got a bit twitchy when they seen the script for this video.

  42. What a coincidence that Linus looks like a member of a boyband from the 90s , brings back ps1 vibes

  43. Just download the file.

  44. My man h

  45. back to good old Nero🔥 times
