  1. This reminded me of the first time having my mind blown from hearing surround sound from a Creative Labs/Cambridge Sound 5.1 speaker system. Especially in the late 90s, having a cheap alternative to expensive audio systems was such a flex and the beauty of it was that, it was a fraction of the price with a ton of quality. I remember my father speaking of how much just a Denon amp was over 100,000$ escudos while the Cambridge Sound system was retailing at just 50,000$ in my shop (still expensive for the time though. The escudos was the old Portuguese currency. 200.487$ = €1 euro).
Nowadays, I mostly get uprated speakers for my car (bought my Sony 6x9s on FB Marketplace) or better headphones for when I'm gaming. But spending your money wisely even in used hardware can definitely improve your experience.

  2. thumbnail confused me to be comparison video from The Hook Up

  3. Now test Z906 if it still holds up in 2024

  4. How is this compared to the Sony ht-a9?

  5. I still have a large 5.1 Cerwin Vega set of speakers and an early 2000’s JVC receiver that can boom the whole house.

  6. The biggest issue with this comparison is that most people don't want a multi-speaker/dac, big setup.

The challenge would be, what can you find that is better than the Bose but has the same footprint.

1/5 the price, but 5 times bigger setup.

  7. My main issue is space. I don't have the room to put anything besides a soundbar (which also barely fit in my room).

  8. Wives get progressively more cranky in direct proportion to the amount of wires involved, multiplied by the jank/aesthetic factor. That is why soundbars are a popular thing, that and paper thin walls in cramped metropolitan cities.

  9. i think the one and only reason people are buying soundbars is because of the complexity of a proper setup. If theres ever going to be a plug and play bluetooth or HDMI 5.1 setup it would go crazy

  10. What a nice Video 😂 all Home Cinema owners will cry Seelig this old tec 😂 But for that Money its a Great result

  11. I got my main bookshelf speakers from a thrift store I was managing at the time. $950 each on eBay, $80 total from the thrift. I have a klipsch wireless subwoofer paired with those. This setup beats anything else I’ve heard.

  12. I mean in theory you should build your boxes yourself, buy best value quality speakers and only buy the av

  13. My father was a sound engineer in his younger days. In the 70s his job was to set up stages and recording studios. He is a musician that can play multiple instruments. I was lucky to grow up around his passion for audio. Whenever he assesses an audio set up, before he looks at the gear he looks at the room acoustics. Two things he'd always recommend for for the home listening room is put a rug in front of your front speakers and a large canvas painting on the back wall.

  14. I use older stereo speakers for my surround sound its awesome

  15. 0:09 I watched this part with 144p

  16. This was such a good video idea

  17. But when you have no space what then? The couch is right at the wall and the is no space around it.

I can't wall mount (old very hard red brick walls – drilling into that makes a mess) anything really. That's why I really think I have to go with a soundbar. My old stereo soundbar sounds worse that the LG oled TV imho. So I don't use it.

  18. Id love to buy a third party old hifi system instead of a soundbar because sound over aesthetic. My wife on the other hand.

  19. We are on the same boat. I have this habit of scrapping audio items. Save mother earth

  20. this is literally how I made my setup minus the theater in a box.

  21. I always say a HTIB is way better than most soundbars and they are easy to setup. Only go with a soundbar if you don't have the room for speakers all around the room.

  22. Pro Tip: Those old receivers also good cheap amps for running haptic motors on sim racing rigs. You can run as many haptic motors as you have output channels.

  23. I used to love building surround systems from lucky finds at goodwills ive had some pretty crazy combos of moden and vintage .

  24. the receiver not have cut bass in front speakers, the HTiB of $40 yes

  25. It’s funny to read comments here to see just how brain dead some people are

  26. Yup, i have quite the setup. I 2 klipsch in the rear and 2 large technics SB-A33 and 2 large 15"pyle woofers in costume boxes in the front. These are being powered by a Denon AL24. I also have a 10" powerd klipsch sub. This system sounds absolutely amazing, and you can feel it, too. That's what the 2 15s are for. This altogether rsn me around 400. Thanks facebook marketplace. Also had to mention I also have an 87"smartbaord with a 1080p benq projector.

  27. That Segway ❤

  28. No one will see this comment anyway I built my theater for about 70k and I guarantee it’s better than any commercial theater out there. 9.8.4 and bass down to 1hz with a 170” screen

  29. I love videos and projects like this

  30. Something worth noting is that swapping speakers doesn't just change the frequency response or detail of a sound, but also how loud it is (this is called sensitivity).

Comparing the center channel to the new Phillips LR isn't exactly fair, because they are more sensitive and overall louder. Higher sensitivity does not always mean better clarity, headroom, or flat response.

In this case, I would have trimmed the LR channels down to a similar volume as the others to have a true apples to apples comparison.

  31. I bought my speakers from a nice man in 2020. They were already 6 years old when I got them, but they still to this day run perfectly fine. I have had no issues with them at all. People forget that one person's trash is another's treasure.

  32. Cost plus the risk of faulty equipment, bedbugs, smells, allergens & weirdo sellers.

  33. Bose is the modern day equivalent of 90's Sony. High prices based on a reputation that is not justified by the product.

  34. Linus has so much money and doesn’t have a treated theater and uses a budget projector

  35. Encanto, 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩

  36. Don't buy soundbars. Waste of money. Even small amp with cheap bookshelf speakers and cheap sub would be enough for most of people.

  37. I bet your neighbors love you.

  38. When you brought up not having an optical out, I thought you were gonna bring up the rca connector digital out, I had to get an optical to rca converter at one point lol

  39. You made me want to calibrate, my home theater and boy, i'm glad I did a night and day difference .It's like a different system all parts I got used on fb and such. Well worth the time and effort to have great sounding audio

  40. Also, Dayton speakers from Parts Express. They don't all come Ikea-style.
