Gaming laptop, especially at this price point, have terrible battery life.
Are they reliable? I am very interested in this particular laptop but while doing some research found out they have lots of problems due to faulty manufacturing causing Liquid Metal Problems which leads to arbitrary reboots and what not.
I have a Lenovo Legion laptop with an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX and the Radeon 6800S and battery life is bad. Around 5 hours with the panel at 60hz, hybrid mode and everything else making it efficient. I rather have the Nividia GPU and DLSS IMHO.
Help.. is this normal? I have also the all AMD strix g17. Ryzen 9 and RX6800 12G. If I use it on gaming etc or work sometimes it goes above 90c to 95 then shuts down.. or is it normal for its cpu to run at 90c up?
Any idea how the battery life is for mainly office work, youtube etc?

The amd edition will destroy the 3080 version on all settings if you upgraded the ram and plugged them both into an external display. Jarrods tech got a 20%ish increase in performance by doing those 2 things. That of course makes the AMD one more expensive though.
bought this laptop recently for $1100 at best buy. 2k display w/ the 5980hx cpu. this is part of my mobile gaming setup, nothing special but definitely gets the job done for the price.
Man I accidentally bought surprised from performance
I bought this laptop on sale at 1099 on November 2022 from 1699 of the original price for the QHD version.
With the money I saved I upgraded the SSD with 2 fast 1TB Gen 3 from Sabrent that runs cool and is much faster for gaming (I have cloned the internal to the first Sabrent and then replace it with another Sabrent for a 2TB total SSD), I replaced the slow stock ram 1Rx16 CL22 with super-fast 2x16GB DDR4 1Rx8 CL20 Kingston FURY (total 32GB) & I also replaced the unreliable WI-FI/Bluetooth card with a fast and reliable INTEL AX210 NGW. All this costed about 320$ that can be 220$ if you go for the more than enough 16GB ram. All the components I have removed I sold them for used and I made some extra cash (about 100$) for the rest of the upgrades.
All the above are super easy to do if you have basic computer skills, 15’ time and a LTT screwdriver.
With the remaining money bought also on sale: one ROG Falchion NX 65 keyboard, one mouse ROG Chakram, the AUKEY PC-LM1E 1080p camera and the Creative Pebble V3 Speakers (total cost another 200$).
All the above upgrades and accessories costed less than the discount I got from best buy and I added a few more $ to the ones I made by selling the stock parts for one QHD LG Ultragear 27GP850-B monitor at 165Hz that is currently on sale at 300$ for a full gaming set up and for bypassing completely the integrated GPU since there is no MUX switch in this laptop.
On benchmarks and on new AAA games this configuration is faster about 25%-30% of the original configuration and faster than a i7 11800H + RTX 3080M laptop that cost about double the original 1699 price of this laptop with smaller SSD and less RAM! All upgrades plus the laptop and peripherals cost me a total of 1820$. All this for a full gaming set up (external screen, keyboard, mouse, speakers and camera) plus 2TB SSD, 32GB ram and fast WIFi6.
Every game run on ultra-settings smoothly as butter.
I highly recommend it even on original price at best buy if you are considering buying the Nvidia variation and you will have the fastest laptop out there and a lot of hard earned $ saved.

just paid 1200$ for the 1440 165 one, absolutely the best deal available to me, comparable to a 3070, which tends to be roughly 2-300$ more at least.
dude, linus…. yikes. The mobile GPUs have been MORE than fucking competitive even since before Bulldozer dude. Puhhhhleaseee. The amount of shilling for Intel and Nvidia he manages to do while supposedly making an AMD hype video is so fucking lame. This laptop is half the fucking cost of ANYTHING even CLOSE to competitive with it not in the AMD camp, and Asus did a LOT of work to make that happen too. There's an Alienware AMD Advantage laptop, right..? It's a fucking abomination. There's a Lenovo one too and it's much more expensive than this Asus model despite just having a bump from DDR4 to DDR5 and the 5000 to 6000 R9. AMD is and has been considered not just a good value product but a high end general product as well at a certain point for MOST of the time during the last decade and you're smoking some amazing shit if you disagree.
Snagged one of these with a R9 5980HX for $1099 from bestbuy and it forced me to do a bios update and bricked itself straight out of the box LOL
The G15 Advantage is only a grand right now. Unbeatable price wise at the moment.
Picked this one up and I love it. Now I just gotta swap the RAM and slap a 2tb nvme on it, and it'll be all I need for a couple years.
These are sold at the price of 3060 laptops where I live.

This feels so biased not mentioning the fact that this laptop is literally competing against the RTX 3080 for $500-$700 less common Linus where do you find a RTX 3080 laptop that for as little as $1500
I just found one of these for $1100. I'm sure it's not the best gaming laptop, but at that price point the specs seem adequate.
At the time of writing of this comment it is on sale at best buy $600 off down to $1099.99 from $1699.99.

In India, This laptop is cheaper than Nvidia 3070 variant. I'm just gonna buy this as 4000 series will take probably another year or so before we get it here.

I don't think we have this in my country. The AMD Advantage laptop I've seen on sale here is the MSI Delta 15, now at about US$2k, Asus of those specs are about $2.5k here.
Dude… A laptop with rtx 3080 will start like 2000$ and those with a RX 6800M can be find arround 1400-1500$… This review need talking about the price too!
?? My gtx 1060 gpu run metro exodus on ultra up to 80fps paired with i5 8400, why a 3080m do a worse job?
With the slower ram the difference is high with 3080. Use the new ram instead I will install 32 gigs on my 6800M laptop. With the external monitor of course it will be a solid beast
