Amazing Products TV What Linus Tech Tips HATES About Building PCs

Comments

  1. I stopped using TeamViewer years ago because they just such a scam company. Plus there’s many other remote desktop companies that offer a better service with better control far better value.

  2. Yeah the situation is so bad with Remote Access softwares that our company decided to spin it's own remote access software, and guess what surprise surprise, it has more features and control than what we were using (sadly they have not made binaries till now for linux 🙁 )

  3. Dear Linus and LTT team in general, could you possibly , in any way, shape or form, turn suing TeamViewer into a show? And also, do you have any sponsors willing to be associated with right to own?

… 'cause if you could and you do, I see a win-win-win solution for the problem here.

  4. Team viewer should do what luke said. Provide the oldest supported version each time and eat the damage. They sold you the product and they should eat the repercussions.

You bought the software for that price because you wanted to use it for that and forever

  5. Just self host and use rustdesk instead of TeamViewer.

  6. What happened with Team Viewer is that they hired a product manager that screwed everything up to justify his salary. This role should never exist in IT business. A product manager will create a spam o products and confusion. Not everything abstracts to a product. When a software updates is the same software like Windows not a new product

  7. I hope the new owners of Nexus Mods stop gate keeping mods.

  8. With that slick hair style, Linus looks like he should be wearing a tracksuit and drinking buckfast in a scottish park at 10pm. It would be the 1990s.

  9. People have anarchist opinions about media piracy which are solidly mixed with entitlement. It's quite an immature attitude of "I want to watch this and I don't want to pay for it, so I'll download it." If media isn't available then fine, piracy is potentially fair game. But streaming services aren't massively profitable corporations, Disney+ is terribly unprofitable, and it's taken Netflix quite a lot of work to make a profit, they still have a massive debt pile.

  10. Become a Star Citizen, own a Trump phone today!

  11. Can’t wait for scrapyard wars

  12. This is what happened with me with CleanMyMac software. This is how companies stealing our money under stupid reasons.

  13. Mail Merge

  14. I dislike LOTR and Hobbit movies. Born in the 80s. I found them boring.

  15. Just use RustDesk instead of TeamViewer… And you can even selfhost it. You have a 1M$ server you can afford a linux VM….

  16. Teamviewer solution is simple "The older version of our software you are using has outdated security and encryption protocols. We strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version for $X. However you are welcome to keep using the older version if you agree to these terms and conditions: (legal speak for we're not legally responsible for lesser security etc)"
This would give people the option to keep using it if all they do is casual use and don't need the latest security and encryption. Meanwhile companies and business users will not hesitate to pay for upgraded security.

  17. I activately do this. I bought a licence for some software to plug my computer into my wife's for diagnosis and ECU control. I had a problem when moving to a new laptop and couldn't activate the software. I emailed them twice and made a post on their forum. No response. Now I pirate a newer version completely guilt free.

  18. What TeamViewer is doing to you is illegal. You bought something tied to a written promise. In other words, they formed a written and signed contract with you and now they have broken that written contract. In terms of how courts function, contract law is generally upheld as-is written unless there are egregious terms in the contract that would cause a party to do something illegal/unconscionable (e.g. sell your children into slavery as compensation). You have, in writing, exactly what they promised would be the case: In perpetuity. That means forever.

  19. 1:06:36 ptsd intensifies.

  20. I'm sure its been talked about, but what about a MIGSwitch USB connecting to the docked switched?

  21. "We haven't seen the Godfather" "We should add that to our movie night"

First of all yes, but you should also totally add that to movie night and watch 12 Angry Men. Well maybe not for a group movie night, as it's a really dry movie, but hey, at least it would add discussion among to the group so it might be fun for people that like that sort of stuff.

  22. The acceptable solution would be for teamviewer to upgrade you to the latest supported version. There's still newer versions if they want to sell you recent features but they can't take away a lifetime license from you.

  23. you should have watched the video, the Switch 2 was not bricked, it was only banned from online access, it should still play cartridges. if like switch 1 bans (which this is showing all the same signs as) you can still even local wireless play and update your games via local update.

  24. Banger title.

  25. Devils advocate on the TeamViewer thing. If TeamViewer 11/12 are using older SSL/TLS versions then it would be irresponsible to keep it running.
Any revenue that was accrued from the 2016 purchase was already burnt through, so developing an MVP product for non-revenue customers isn't great value for the business.
If you purchase a software product then perpetual means perpetual, if there are necessary online servers then no business should be saying perpetual without limitations.
Linus should know that $5000 doesn't pay for 9 years of server hosting. Don't mix software licensing and services.

  26. 32:37 Luke: you should stand up for youself more often man….
    also Luke when Linus does:

  27. What a great thing you're doing! Instead of just adding channels to Floatplane, you're also adding Floatplane to other channels and sites.

    Cool!

  28. Canonical seems reasonably successful at their business model: Ubuntu Desktop/Server editions with optional Long-Term Support (LTS) flavors (free) plus the option to pay money for Extended Support via Ubuntu Pro. LTS builds are already kind of crazy long in the tooth by the time you get around to upgrading (once every 5 years) but the Ubuntu Pro extends to 12 years. That's a full decade before having to actually upgrade to a new major release. It doesn't come cheap, but broken infrastructure and downtime is the sort of thing that businesses hate and generally aim to minimize. A few thousand dollars here or there is basically nothing. But TeamViewer apparently didn't get that memo!

  29. The "Allure of 4k" is sadly very real. I switched to 4k for work during the pandemic. I regret it.
I can go back to 1440, but 1024 feels claustrophobic. I don't "suffer" as much in games as for work, but yeah, even with my poor eyesight I definitely notice it.

  30. Linus what on earth is going on with your hair, has it rained or did you forget the sun roof while you went through a car wash?

  31. Trans parents? Based.

  32. Scapyard Wars 10 !!!!
Im Soooo looking forward to it!

  33. Remember Linus L take on ad blockers. Yeah ad blockers isn't piracy.

  34. I was falling asleep only to be awoken by Linus banging a screwdriver on the table, this podcast never fails to amaze me 😂😂

  35. Scrapyard Wars 10!!!

  36. What the freak is that 2000s 7th grade smelly school boy haircut, Linus🧐

  37. Consumers continue to fall victim to these situations from companies all across the board. Finding legal loopholes that they will not have to uphold warranties, licences or even the proper operation of something you physically bought and possess such as the Nintendo switch 2 or the ability to charge for hardware already included in your car at the time of purchase. Consumers need to fight back, legally bringing these things forward . What if Tesla disabled your car because you were speeding?
