Waterblocks and air coolers both share the common trait of a metal cold plate that makes contact with the CPU for heat transfer. This needs to be protected, and not all protection is created equal. What happens to your Core i9 if you forget to peel that little piece of plastic? Let’s find out.

10:42 How bad is it ACTUALLY?
How important is it to remove the peel?
Depends. Not important on an apple or pear, but pretty vital on a banana or pineapple.
Was just installing the aio on my new build and did this… first build noob mistakes.
The thumbnail has me panicking
I remember making this mistake when installing an AIO on a FX 8350,(because that stock cooler was ridiculous). I could tell right away something was off as everything pretty much ran like crap once. Once I checked and removed the plastic and put on new thermal paste it was fine.
is the radeon 580 good for a graphics card
this video made me take apart my whole pc just to make sure there wasn't any plastic where it shouldn't be.
This seems like the type of mistake you would only make once you HAVE years of experience, since you've lost the amazement with all of the tools. Once a CPU cooler and its installation become mundane it seems like a simple thing to miss.
Had an old dell with a the LGA 478 3.06 GHz with rambus ram, dell forgot to peel the CPU and it sound like a 1U server and with whisper quiet after it was peeled
Linus calling 200 to 300 fps acceptable bitch that's fuckinv Supreme for a console player
If you have a Noctua Dh15, dont worry, the only plastic is that hard cover, easy to spot.
I was VERY confused why I saw a LTT video about forgetting to pee, until I looked a little closer. Crisis averted.
1:33 this is the most painful part of the video
"the odds are it's not gonna kill anything"
my ego.
I can’t believe you put this on me. I just put my 5800X into my C6H and I know for a fact there isn’t any plastic on my 5yo cooler but I’m going to check because I need to see it with my own eyes again.
I'm 99 percent sure I do not have the peel on since I recently upgraded my cpu but Linus got me trippin
The very same plastic was between my good old fx 8350 and cooler for a year.
Ridge wallet is nothing but a overpriced brand with a fancy shell company and marketing team, so embarrassing
My pc, which i had for 4 years had a peel on the heatsink, and it started lagging only about 6 months ago, so i got a new one, transplanted the heatsink, realised it and now the new pc with the old heatsink works like new 💀
Maybe machine a cpu and use a modified guage block as a cooler and then no thermal paste is required which would be more efficient. If you rub two guage blocks they will stick together and will be one piece of metal, just an idea
That’s it I’m checking
u cant blame linus who build this stuff everyday
The best part is it will always be close to melting, but it never will get quite hot enough.
It took me over a year to realize I’d missed a peel on the Corsair Dominator Platinum (not RGB) logo.
Honestly hate that ltt uses csgo for most of their bench mark games. Like it’s hard to run 150+ fps on it. He should be playing different games
Im not gonna say ive done this, but I have experience
8:15 is a physics lesson
Now I gotta check if my— oh wait i use a laptop from 2009 ):
LOL, the first time I ran across a CPU with its own thermal compound, which had peel off plastic, but like with no warning or anything, I stared at it, and assumed it was ready to go. The Athlon? fried and the plastic became a black sticky mess.
Well you only make that mistake once!
This remembers me the time I forgot to remove my brand new Intel CPU from its box, before installing it on the socket .. I didn't understand why it was so hard to close that freakin bracket .. and yeah .. of course even with the right amount of thermal paste, it didn't work well ..
We indians do not peel the plastic instead we let be there for the rest of it's life

THERMAL PASTE
"Machined flat so there's as much surface contact blah blah blah.."
Wouldn't an uneven surface have a larger surface area?
Wouldn't thermal conductivity increase if both, the surface of the CPU and the cooler be an intermeshing washboard-type of geometry?
Why aren't we doing this?
I have another question
Why the hell would they put a plastic there in the first place for no reason
Linus doing it on purpose – "noo this feels so wrong"
Linus doing it on accident – "yep all set, this bad boys good to go"
I've only ever used noctua air coolers. I didn't know this issue existed because they use solid plastic caps that are impossible to miss.
my gpu still has the foil on it, i will not take it off because i need to take out the gpu for that
thanks linus i just order a new board and forget thermal paste without ltt I wouldn't have tried to build a pc
Now what they do is change a buck or two more and give a tube with the paste so u have to put it on your self and remove the plastic
Bro i just realised i was running my pc for 5 years with the sticker stoll on the cooler 😭😭😭
In 2016, I went with a new build i5 6600k. It ran fine, I tried to overclock a year later and system shut down and never let me into bios for some reason. I decided to get a new mini itx case this year and find I had a sticker on the h212 cooler the whole time. Nzxt h1 mini now and runs cooler lol
Lol I've never done that. How is this guy making it so large.
don't doubt that this is already a video but what happens if you physically weld the CPU shroud thingy (the metal piece that covers all the micro chips and stuff) to a cooler than reattach the CPU and install it I'd imagine that with no thermal paste just bare metal welded it would have pretty good cooling
well i plugged the hdmi to the motherboard and not to the gpu😅😅 on my brothers system. he often complained regarding the bad gameplay in the game. and while shifting i indeed found my mistake. and well i never told him that and he still thinks he's that bad in game.😂😂
0:37 new fear unlocked 😂
it seems like my pc has a plastic in between of cpu and heat sink the temp is 70 degree eeee
0.59. Poor me having ocd.. ohh my godd….
