Or you DO buy a high spec x3D chip and then you’re covered for the next 5 years and don’t need to upgrade cpu. ALWAYS pay the extra couple hundred on a cpu. Then contemplate whether you want to upgrade your gpu a few times over the life span of your CPU. It’s a no brainer.

Got a 7800x3d last month for $300 at microcenter.
I'd go even farther and say 9700x for a 5070 Ti and 9070 XT. 9800X3D is overkill for anything other than 4090s and 5090s.
majority of gamers play either cs, lol, dota, valorant, rss, rocket leauge. All of those are cpu bound
This is a bad take. The 9800X3D is a great CPU for even low end GPUs. I play many FPS games and have 14600k+RX 9070 XT I upgraded from RTX 4060 Ti. The issue was that the CPU was a bottlenecking both GPUs in most high fps games. I couldn’t hit 240 fps and would stay at 85-90% GPU usage. Investing in a good CPU that will future proof your build is a good idea and should not be discouraged. I will upgrade my CPU when Zen 6 comes out on AM5.
Unless you have a radeon gpu you can use smart access memory witch works better with an apu for a 16 %boost maybe higher woth the am5 platform
Depends on the games you play and if you play 1080/1440p or 4k….. in most casrs the vcache is verry usefull..
I use RTX 4070 with 7600x3d in 1440p, couldn’t be happier.

3d cache is best for heavy simulation games. Nothing will touch v cache in terms of complex games like simulations… What's the point of driving ppl away from vcache again?

Well stop using ULTRA presets. Tone down the FPS robbing settings and tune for high fps and then yes a better cpu will benefit you. The GPU is the race car and the CPU is the race track. Fast CPU’s are like high speed race tracks. They allow the GPU to achieve their best.

The extra ~£200 or so you might spend on the 9800X3D compared to something else isn't going to be enough to break into a different bracket of GPU. It's barely enough to get a 5070ti over a 9070xt.
Idk, I mostly play MMOs and they do benefit a lot from cpu power and 3d cache. I have an i7 8th gen with a 1060 6gb. what is the bottleneck? indeed, the cpu.

Except a GPU is a simple slot in upgrade, and you might choose do do so in 2-4y.
And your CPU will still be fine then for a RTX 6070, or 7070, or an AMD 1170xt………
For a long time, i had a very old Intel CPU (8700k?). And i used my RTX 4090 with it for 1-2 years by then?
I always thought, it is ok. I can play cyberpunk with all on max with over 60 fps. And with frame gen etc. even with RT on max.
But HOLY did my performance increase when i got the 9800x3d. For example, i tested Witcher 3 with RT on and all on max in 4k in Novigrad and had around 60 fps on the old cpu.
After the upgrade i was sitting on 140 to 150 fps, my eyes nearly fell out.
I would never had imagined THIS much of a boost.

I built my first pc last month with a 9070xt and the 9800x3d. All my games are sooooo good. Considering I came from ps5 it’s awesome. Currently playing ready or not epic graphics preset and hitting stable 150-160 fps😮💨
