Connecting cameras to my smart home is extremely useful. If you have any camera automations you like at your house then let me know!
4:47 apparrently youre not because its not football but rugby.
Please do a few videos about Blue Iris and codeproject AI
Reolink UI and playback is absolutely garbage. 95% of cameras have terrible UI and it’s so confusing.
UniFi is the best user experience and it’s not even close.
Between Unifi and Reolink which one has faster streaming to Home-Assistant?
I find there is always a ~5s delay
Wow, what sheer stupidity. Why whould you want google/amazon intergration at all? Amazon has been caught watching ring footage and both are constantly listening in to your conversations.
Inexpensive cameras are often as good as expensive ones, but I do like the Unifi Protect integration.
Thanks, just what i searched for.
I recently toyed with one of my Ubiquities and change via HA a LED to blue light when an animal is detected in my garden. Works well. Can’t wait to move to our new home and make it more fancy 😂
I've been using Wyze for years, and loved them. I recently started using Home Assistant, so now they are the worst thing to have in my smart home. 🫤 I flashed one with Thingino as a test, so I can at least integrate it into Frigate and HA, and it does the basics. I've been researching replacements, and was interested in Reolink, and this video sold me on it. Thanks!
Axis probably has one of the best integrations; every scenario you create in the Object Analytics Application shows up as its own sensor in Home Assistant. Additionally, if you really want to, Axis cameras support Webhooks and MQTT as well. (Downside – Camera Cost 😅)
Hey Reed, don't toss out the Tapo C120/121 (like in your garage) as you can adopt them into UniFi Protect as ONVIF cameras. You can then view them in HA through the Protect integration. I'm also using a UniFi AI port for enhanced Protection based capabilities with my Reolink doorbell.
I grew frustrated trying to keep the Tapo Camera Control integration going. It sucked for me as the integration wasn't consistent in working and I had to uninstall/reinstall it frequently just to keep them in HA. Now that I'm using (Tapo & Reolink in) Protect, everything has been rock solid.
Did you know that Tapo cameras can be integrated into homekit through a docker container running Scrypted by Koush – I run all of this on my synology nas. You can get the person alerts and also be notified about animal, car and package detection. Also the recordings are stored with Apple so bypass could storage fees. Also Tapo is pretty cheap. I liked their C125 cameras that were direct into homekit. I agree Wyze is garbage – everything worth using is behind a subscription paywall. I downloaded some firmware to get the RTSP funtionality back so I could run my wyze through homekit but overall I just am retiring Wyze cameras in general.
How about eufy S4 new solar panel camera 😅
I was team reolink for the longest time, currently testing eufy's poe system but would love to get unifi since I already use them for my home network and am very pleased with that
Is your wife going to setup a detection that she can turn on (like when you make her mad) so when the cameras detect you that you get tazed and it gets captured by the cameras and uploaded to YouTube automatically?
For the Eufy cameras is it the integration for Home Assistant that is limited or is it actually the cameras?
Agreed Wyze was promising when it was first launched but they went downhill fast and put everything behind a paid subscription. Basically unusable now without it being connected to the cloud.
MyQ is giving them away right now. Doesn’t integrate with Alexa though so pretty worthless for me
I wish this would have dropped last week and would have saved me 2 days of research. I feel like I came to the same conclusions which is a bit of a bummer because I really liked some of the Eufy cameras but everything I found suggests there is no way to integrate into Home Assistant with local control. I'm finding the same types of issues with smart locks. There actually seem to be a very limited amount of smart locks that have good home assistant integration and apple home key appears to be a walled garden of doom that will lock you out of any other integration.
My Tapo C100 can do person detection in Home Assistant – It has almost all the same options as my Reolink W330's
Reolink is the goat 🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Dude your WYZE cracks are something else! 🙂
Respectfully, I disagree with your Tapo assessment. I have 5 Tapo cameras integrated thru the Tapo Camera Control integration found in HACS and I get to trigger automations based on all the same characteristics that Tapo has in their app (person, motion, baby crying, glass detection, etc). Currently I have one set up to turn on the front porch light when a person is detected and if my security system is armed, it sends me a notification snapshot of the person. Also, this integration gives you access to the pan and tilt controls for PTZ cams as well as the different points within Patrol mode. Display them with the WebRTC integration and the load instantly. I think you can access the recordings from the SD card in the media folders. Each camera exposes like 90-110 entities for you. I haven’t found a camera integration I like better so far.
Also…with Scrypted you can put them into HomeKit with HKSV. Cant beat it in my opinion.
What about Hikvision and Dahua and other Chinese pretty good cams manufactures?)
UniFi makes you buy UniFi NVR to store footage, or to use UniFi protect, that is a deal breaker for me. UniFi cams are great but one of the most expensive on the market, and plus toy have to get a UniFi expensive NVR? No way !
You don't need webhooks for Unifi. Home Assistant has an official Unifi integration That exposes everything automatically
Reolink has quickly become my favorite, shortly followwed by SOME Tapo cams.
I was all in on Wyze for many years, and to be fair it did its job when needed, but that was pre-Home Assistant. The wyze floodlight SUCKS because you either have to have it detect everything in real time to turn on the light, or detect specific things/areas and there's a huge delay (probably my positioning, but still). I've also owned a few Nest. I've almost completely replaced both brands now.
I like Eufy brand, but got a lot of mixed info on HA with Local only integration, so haven't pulled the trigger.
I'll probably be picking up 2 Reolink E1 Outdoor's during prime sale this week!
Sadly, I think it depends on the model of the device. I picked up a used Reolink B800 thinking 'I can easily throw this into Home Assistant!' Turns out it is only usable with the Reolink NVR. The Amcrest IP5M though is great in Home Assistant even though the Integration is legacy and only configurable via YAML.
Maybe Im wrong but i'm Tapo c120 integrated to HA I have a option to trigger by person detection.
That was a big papa Javalina. Mine usually come in heards across my yard. Also caught on camera – Bobcat, coyote, rabbits, and rattlesnakes. Love Reolink cameras in Arizona!!
dual/triple camera from imou in my coutrny dual camera cost like 50$ i don't know how it work with ha but the price is very nice similar to tapo
Dang I was looking at Wyze …
And Aqara doesn’t exist or what?!😂😂
so sad with Wyze's progress over time away from value priced useful gadgets. There is alternate firmware available for the v1 and 2 models that enables RTSP
Another good reason to avoid Wyze is it turns out they'll happily take your footage and give it to the government without your permission
What about detection distance , how many feet or meters ? Thanks
in general if its ONVIF and RTSP compatible and works in Frigate and your NVR has a proper intergration to HA its the better choice, I use hilook and hikvission cameras through a synology NAS atm that do what i need at the moment and I blocked internet access for them on the network level so they are local only and I just vpn into the home on the phone when out to have alerts and being able to monitor things this way so its all local only setup.
😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hello! Do you get rich notifications with reolink? Or only with Unifi?
Thanks
Thanks for showing how simple it is to create automations in HA with webhooks from Unifi Protect! I've been going about that all wrong! SO SIMPLE!
I feel like the take about eufy cameras in this video was horribly misrepresented. There is a Eufy Security integration that can be installed into Home Assistant via HACS and supports Motion, Person, Pet and Crying detection as well as Facial recognition.
What is the benefit of using Home Assistant app? 🙂 Trust me, SmartThings is the best app in the world. Thanks to Matter.
