well, thank god i bought my ram before it went up, i have 2 different sets of ram of total 48gb and bought them brand new for like 140$ in total, today they are worth 740$, if you want the prices to go down stop using ai, stop favoring companies who need ram😅

I found 64 gig (2×32) ddr5 6000 for sale on marketplace for $600. It's a 6 hr drive IF they still have it. I feel sick. But those data centers are going to burn through ram, meaning they are going to need constant supplies of it

Since 2020, FIVE years ago, we had prices hikes for Covid, the GPU crypto mining craze, the two wars and the crazy president throwing tariffs left and right just because he can. Did we REALLY also need this stupid AI bubble, with tech companies making RAM prices worse for the average consumer and worker (which is most of the population) all because they're "racing" to have a handful of them become richer, bigger all while trying to shove something most people don't need into everyone's lives? Can't we catch a damn break for once?

Last year when I built my system I bought 64GB of DDR5 for around 210USD. At that moment it was a big price for me to pay, but I went with the idea of being future-proofed. Now the same pack of RAM is, at it's cheapest price, around 1150 USD, more than 5 times higher price. I honestly can't believe that last year, for this high price, I could have bought a 4080 Super. Times are tough…

AI doesn't have to be good. We all know that at this point only one letter of the acronym is accurate. It might not need to be good, just good enough to enthrall the dumbo's of the world – and there ate a LOT of them. Witness the use of Insta, Facebook et-al. But AI does need to be all pervasive. Once again, we, the users of this crap technology, are the product. I am talking about generative AI LLM's here; I'm sure a lot of good comes from machine learning that is used for medical scans etc.
I mean, not building more fabs is basically a confirmation that those in the know KNOW that this AI is a bubble and it's going to pop soon. 2026 and 2027 will be interesting years.
