Whatever happened to just OWNING things? Why do I have to pay every month for software that consistently gets WORSE with each new version? It was bad enough when HP started subscription printing services, now they want me to subscribe to my gaming laptop, too? Still, we can’t write them off until we take a closer look, so let’s do it. Are these Laptop Subscription offers worth it, or just another grab for your hard-earned-cash?

What a rip off. Waste your money on the newest for no reason
I'm surprised there was no talk/concern of increase in subscription costs, although I didn't look at the language of their contracts. Their site mentions "Predictable monthly payments" but that doesn't mean they won't increase in the future to cover other costs (especially with the current rise in hardware costs). I could also see a world where they offer to "upgrade you to the newest tech" by giving you a newer cpu/gpu but in a lower tier, as long as performance remains similar (pure speculation, only time will tell). Personally not for me as I tend to gravitate to already depreciated refurbished gaming laptops but interesting dive into something I would never look into.
For years, many companies have rent laptop or smartphone so I don't know why are you surprised
Certified Capitalism Moment 🤑💰💸
So… what stops me from making one monthly payment, wiping the OS, stopping my payments, and running away with a 40.- new laptop?
Why would you need to upgrade so quickly anyway? Terrible deal imo
Yes Linus, I clocked the Chernobyl film reference. Point taken.
Christ this is not even speaking of how horrible their desktops are. Their custom PSU and Motherboard are so horrible it made my 3080 Ti start dying from power instability
That laptop is NOT 3000$, you can find comparable ones for half
So I can't even use a real operating system? So what's the point?
Never support this guys this is the worst it can get for a consumer point of view.
I'm trying to convert my business into an HP free zone. Here in India, they are the absolute worst in terms of service. They've been selling scammy cartridge based inkjet printers for decades and only started with ink tank offerings after many folks switched over to Epson.
Epson and/or Brother are so much better in terms of what they offer.
Now, with this subscription model thingy (available in Canada and the US?) I'd imagine that your problems with HP will begin once your laptop goes faulty and/or if you drop it. You'll then find out that you are at their mercy as they've got you locked into a contract wherein they dictate ALL the terms. They didn't give you an option to modify ANY part of the contact and that's the worst type of contract.
2 years? You (manufacturers) are expecting us to upgrade our gaming laptop in 2 years? I'm not kissing my Dell Precision 7560 (with 16gb RTX3080) a goodbye. This bad boy will live until the death of universe. Or until I found a better deal, which won't happen anytime soon.
Maybe the msrp prices for the gaming laptop were not inflated as much?
I have no idea why ANYONE wants to own an HP product. Their printers suck, their scammy shit with the ink sucks, their customer service sucks and their machines suck. Now this??? Yeah not a clue how this company is still in business
I assume as i don't own the device, linux is out of the question… not that I want it, or am in the usa…
😂😂😂😂😂😂
The mid real wale lan add was jarring 😢
I have hated HP for like nearly 15 years now. I think ever since my old folks' HP MF ran out of ink and refused to scan documents… I just don't touch HP. End of it.
F. subscriptions
I honestly hope HP goes under. Awful company
3000$ for a Snapdragon laptop? No thank you…
the only kind of customer this would be good for is someone who will absolutely take advantage of same-day replacements and upgrades, someone just incompetent enough with computers that they can't do it themselves, but just competent enough to actually need the computer in peak condition at all times. honestly im not sure how many of those people exist, but HP can have fun trying to appeal to a niche that may or may not exist.
Subscriptions are bad except I actually get something each month for my money. NOT getting something and paying money for it is just because those tech oligarch overlords force me to.
they just want us to get used to nonsense subscriptions here and there so we are more likely to succumb to what comes next
and this, my friends, is why we should use Framework
LTT videos are mediocre at best these days… I really don't care about HP and I already hate subscriptions so much but what is anyone doing to stop them. I just clicked on the video to make YouTube stop recommending this to me.
i was expecting this for 2-3 years now
Imagine paying subscription for a friggin HP laptop. The Snapdragon one. Just why? Buying a used Thinkpad is cheaper and better than this trash (saying this as a person who did that and is happy)
I hope they pay Riley enough… first time ever is did not skip an ad. Without the guy, LTT will not be the same.
I own nothing and I'm not happy

Riley is a national treasure
Isn't this just leasing?
it's annoying but just like cars, people keep doing it
At least you can still buy and own new HP laptops for ever ? Yes or no ?
Its a spy machine. nothing more.
The other ting that needs to be mentioned is that if you upgrade, you probably have to set up everything again, and maybe even have to install everything again
Hassle
People actually buy hp laptop?
I bought their printer a while ago then decided im never touching this company again.
…
This is just renting but worse
subscription is a neo-capitalistic gimmick for maximizing profit and control over a mindless consumerist sea of idiots.
An MSRP of 3000 USD for a basic office laptop with a 1200p screen and a mobile CPU is glanced over rather quickly….
I wrote a recipe app recently and tried to make it as free as possible. You can do anything you can do with a subscription without that subscription but you won't be able to sync your data to the cloud.
I think that is the best I can do in that regard and the subscription is also just 5€ a year.
But yeah I hate subscriptions, which is why I wrote my own recipe app in the first place.
Ah yes, next is oxygen subscription
Here… BMW were gonna make buyers of their cars subscribe to a plan that lets them activate the heating system in the car seats! 😀
Mental!!!
if I won't own it, I won't pay for it.
that simple.
Sometimes I wonder if EMI is a thing in the US!?
the whole "continued development" thing is a scam. they push update after update, but glaring issues continue to exist. what are they doing, making the comments look sane (my code has some very interesting rants in it)? i liked it better when they come out with a new edition every couple of years, buy updates as needed. now you have to factor in an hour of two factor logins into your workflow.
