As a photographer I fly a pilot with film and some XRay machines could damage my film. Most airports are good about doing a hand check, I’ve had bad experiences and often carry a lead lined bag. Mine is from Domke if you’re wondering. I know it does something because even with it empty nearly every security checkpoint wants it pulled out but I do wonder just how effective it is. I know you guys have an xray machine to see inside electronics and I’d like to see how effective different xray blockers are in a similar style video

Regard why faraday phone bags exist. Law enforcement use them to isolate a phone from any and all networks without needing to have the password to the phone. This is done to prevent the phone from receiving commands over that would interfere with an investigation, such as a remote wipe.
I'm not sure that airplane mode will do the same… Some phones can be tracked while supposedly 'turned off' I'm not sure that airplane mode prevents that… I assume that the point of this signal blocking would be to be able to go completely invisible to remote tracking based on devices you carry.
Whole video that essentially says everything but a motherboard plastic bag works. The only interesting premise was mentioned testing was how airplane mode stacks against transmission signaling and it wasn’t tested. This video was about 9 minutes longer than it needed to be.
I'm not super sure about that chamber you got there, did you do a lot of measurements inside to check? When I was in calibration we had a chamber like that, but it was significantly more heavy duty, giant brass door, etc… maybe the tech is better now or is it for a more restricted frequency range?

Something I think is worth considering; there are two thought camps. First is that you are protecting yourself from the typical thing of stealing your data via a skimmer or the like. The second is a bit darker, and that is related to concealing evidence of your existence in a place by avoiding device ‘fingerprinting’. Depending on where you live, that could be a very deadly misstep.
I’m doing this math late and fast, so it’s liable to be a bit inaccurate, but 20mV/m is roughly -35dBm signal power (assuming an ideal dipole for antenna factor). Noise floor is generally considered to be -111dBm, which means your signal could be a received up to 200m away (free space calculation with two dipoles). This is all perfect scenario and doesn’t account for things like SNR, system gain/losses, etc. However, it suggests there are scenarios when your presence is what is considered valuable, your device could be ‘fingerprinted’ when you think it’s safe (Airplane mode actually doing what it’s supposed to do is a different topic. Interesting, although probably very regional and manufacturer specific…).
I think this is something that would be interesting to delve into a bit more, or at the least add the caveat that ‘all suggestions are out the window when big brother is involved’
