Just wanted to give some honest feedback: This channel, the one that many of us subscribed to initially, was about building interesting things. This might've been bespoke PCs, jank-asf cooling solutions, interesting networking, or a thoughtful review. The key component was always some sort of craftsmanship (regardless of how jank).
For reviews, I think Linus knows that they've been struggling (hence, labs for review quality) but the missing piece isn't the factual information, its the thoughtfulness that counts. Think about how an MKBHD review differs from an LTT one. As for projects and builds, this channels focus seems to have shifted away from building something people would actually want, to something clickable. The former is much more captivating, though again, requires some thought and people with good intuition on what makes something fun, rather than simple host charisma and flashy imagery and a bigger thing.
The $5000 tech upgrade videos still capture some of that old energy, because people care about what is put into their own home, and I think that tends to produce more fun projects, even in limited scope.
Maybe all of these changes are a necessary consequence of a changing algorithm, but people do notice the difference; at this point, you are cashing-in on brand value rather than building it. It will take a lot of risk/commitment to find talent that can produce good content, instead of screen-testing as many people as possible, but hopefully for a company of this size it's possible. Maybe find a part-time creator who has promise and then hire them full-time?
Anyhow, this video made me think, as the current response seems to be negative as in "why should this showcase-style infomercial be main-channel content?" whereas I think some time ago (pre-covid?) the response would have been "go get that bread, Linus," although perhaps the video would've also been different.
To address the video directly; yes it was bad, no one likes the product more because of it, maybe the sponsor got something out of it and addressed some niche, and I suspect LMG was compensated handsomely, although the damage to the brand image of LTT may not have been worth it.

This is clearly an expensive product. But when you think about it, if you want to have a gym at home, this is actually somehow affordable. The convenience and features you get. It's still expensive though. But again like thinking about the space, equipments, all that stuff. This is a somewhat good value compared to if you're going to do it all by yourself. Gym equipments are not cheap. Plus all the work and money you need to set up a gym at home makes this expensive product a good deal in a way.
