Amazing Products TV The Steam Machine Killer

Comments

  1. This what I want 🤣🤣

  2. This was well done, but I have no idea what those of y’all who talked Linus into using brand new hardware for budget conscious builds were thinking. It’s just throwing away money.

  3. He had to vent his frustration into making something better 😂

  4. I don't know if I'd even buy a Steam Machine at half off. Steam Deck + dock + in-home streaming works well enough that I never use any of my consoles anymore.

  5. Always complaining about HDMI cec.. Turning the TV on shouldn't be a deal breaker for anyone on a budget.

I also wonder if most people are going to be trying to game in 4k or if it would be more helpful to test in 1440.

  6. but steam used Mobile GPU. while PC used 100% of GPU? mybe u should buy a SAME PRICE LAPTOP instead???

Danke!

  8. THe bigger insult is the 2230 NVME drive in this thing

  9. Neat! Now do one where you factor in the cost of paying someone else to do the custom build for you (so with a budget about $100 – $300 less, maybe?), and target a similar footprint and noise level.

  10. The entire concept is a joke. This wasn't target at DIY PC users. They aren't even going try to to market it to them. Yes, at $700 their likely expected price, they were going to be a little more expensive than a PS5, but you would have made it back in 3 or 4 games. Now you're giving those people that were going to "get seamlessly into steam" 3 new challenges. 1) Noise (in a living room environment) 2) Building 3) installing an operating system. You aren't converting any of those people, you are just being performative.

  11. Yeah………. since my friend and myself built our own computers back in the 2000s we never buy prebuilt pcs no matter how they may look. i am more interested in the STEAM OS. Can you confirm if it runs smoother than say windows ( less bloat) I bet that SSD and graphics card prices will be the biggest hurdle. Impressive to see my motherboard still at 150 bucks… sweet.
Sidenote, i also stopped buying consoles because i dont use them , dont have the time to play many games.

  12. I wonder if this was HARDeR than the other console killers

  13. i called it when i said itll be around 1200 $ XD , and that was before ram issue going crazy , its sad but how ai market going to rock bottom regardless of the numbers they show trying to it wrong , i have high hopes that ai bubble popping next year at best , simply because , they cant keep throwing money on it all day forever while people not really using it soo theres no real revenue

  14. The Steam Machine:
PROS: Cheaper electricity bill (several hundreds of dollars less a year) unless you're comparing to a laptop they are the same, very small form factor and ease to steam gaming network, pretty much everything a desktop can do
CONS: $100+ or so less of a value, no mobility/safety from power outages

    Pre-Builts:
PROS: Fastest buy now option/ready with no console or mobile performance downsides
CONS: Customization is limited to your builder and options they have available in stock/parts, no mobility/safety from power outages

    Do it yourself build:
PROS: cheapest parts, most configurations with no console or mobile downsides
CONS: Limited to your knowledge and parts selection, requires research, biggest space required/not compacted, no mobility/safety from power outages

    PS5::
PROS: Lower Upfront Cost, Better Hardware Inflation
CONS: Paid Multiplayer, Pricey Games, No Upgradability, Locked Framerates, Lower Resolution, Limited Ray Tracing, No Game Mods, Peripherals, Setting Limits, Smaller Library, Single-Purpose Device, No Multi-Monitor Support, no mobility/safety from power outages

    Gaming Laptop:
PROS: Best value when comparing to other Preb-uilts like desktop, Cheapest electricity bill (several hundreds of dollars less a year) unless you're comparing to the steam machine they are the same, mobility and safety from power outages
CONS: Customization is limited, 80% of the performance when compared to desktop

-I'm not trying to start a fight with you guys I'm just giving you the options and you can decide. (If there are any pros or cons that you can think of that I missed let me know and I'll add them)

  15. I mean, you guys realize you're comparing 20-30FPS?

Yes there's a price difference but still…. that's what it takes.

  16. I would have rather seen you test this in a living room setup since the primary draw of the Steam Machine is going to be living room pc gaming.

  17. I mean you can get CEC working fairly easily on bazzite. I built a “steam machine killer” and added a Pulse-8 CEC adapter. That being said, form factor is also a HUGE part of the steam machine so going with a full size case should have been a no-go for the video. Definitely needs to be a small form factor to compete with it. Most people don’t want a giant RGB fan computer under their tv in the living room. Micro ATX component pricing would make the comparison way closer because I doubt you could build it for under 1200 with a 9060xt 16gb gpu.

  18. Is the bubble ever gonna pop? They've been talking about how it's gonna pop any second now… for like a year or more

    WHEN WILL THIS END???

  19. For the form factor and power usage you’re going to have some compromises. It’s a very portable tiny pc with a cheap game library and the ability to mod. Plus you don’t have to build it. For a lot of people that’s a win. The prices today suck, it is what it is. I still think it’s a good product.

  20. Auto turning on your TV vs double the performance.

    Hmm very hard choice.

  21. These videos feels like Linus trying to justify why he used a part already in his inventory instead of buying the better or correct option. Why not ITX motherboard with ITX case and SFX PSU to at least get to a point where it is similar in size to the Steam Machine?

  22. Is this the release build of steam machine? Isn't it possible there is performance gain when it's released?

  23. Realistically, I paid 1,000$ over the course of a year building my rig in 2009. That was just a 1 gig video card, a quad core (amd 975 phenom ii black edition) 8 gigs of ram and a gigabyte 990fx motherboard.

  24. Can we get a weight comparison after the case is on?

  25. i dont understand why that ginger guy is defending the steam machine. when its just clearly outclassed. getting 100 fps in Hades 2 on a $1000 machine shouldnt be an "ohh yeah stleast its good for indie games" thing. there even shouldnt be an "atleast its good for indie games" argument being made. I can buy a marketplace pc for $300 that can run hades 2 pretty good. this is competing for console marketshare, it shouldnt be compared to then as a low end pc meant for light games

  26. Not even 24h later since Review

  27. they really really wanted to make sure no one scalps the steam machine i guess. now no one will buy it to scalp, or at all

  28. We built a PC that completely doesn't meet any things the steambox was for size power etc ofc its better

  29. Ltt quarterzip please

  30. Next are you gonna build a PC stronger than the switch 2?

  31. steam machine still way better for travel, plus it has a warranty

  32. What cec is important that is like caring about your garbage bags

  33. Now fit this in GEEEK M31 case

  34. Yo the Flydigi Vader is goated!

  35. Still need to be comparing the Steam Machine to similar mini PC's. The Minisforum Atom Man, the Aoostar GodZ, etc. Even if some of them can get higher performing parts they're still larger, use more power, lack some of the creature comforts, will likely make more noise, and are still priced the same or more than the Steam Machine and won't have the same OS optimization.

Edit: And…as Valve already said looking at the hardware survey the Steam Machine's still going to be a better option to upgrade to for a lot of people.

  36. Should have used mini itx case and board

  37. I really don't like the placement of the teleprompter on this one. His slight gaze to the left is throwing me off 😂

  38. Bro, why do i want a full pc for the living?? at least try to match the size …

  39. Where is the case? One of Steam Machine's positives is it's compact portability. Show this build with it's case and compare portability.

  40. Linus has put the last nail in the Steam machine's coffin!
