  2. Great video, enjoyed the comparison but also you genuinely showing when things don't go as expected ๐Ÿ‘Œ

  3. Can you still overclock and undervolt

  4. 2 comments. Most people will have their windows systems more clough up so that RAM usage could be even higher, particularly as system ages. It happens to me even if I actively take care to clean windows and other software. Then this double usage of RAM might make a big difference at the end of computer cycle. Can we test a system with 16 Gb of RAM only?

  5. The bias towards Linux is insane. No one here seems to know how windows handles ram. But it doesnโ€™t matter since itโ€™s Linux, right?

  6. I use my window pc in the livingroom sometimes with auto login and steam big picture mode on startup and it totally fine as a livingroom pc.

  7. You really should record 1% lows.

  8. steam os i good for a 2nd pc on the living room but for my main pc it has to be windows

  9. Would love to see this with the same settings but with Bazzite and CachyOS as well.

The Ram usage difference is wild. I can only imagine that drivers and optimization will improve with time as well.

Great video, as a PC Gamer I love the idea that we have other options in case Windows 12 goes even further in the current direction. Proton really is a gamechanger and quite amazing when you think about what it's doing.

  10. I'd be all in with SteamOS if it wasn't for all those games using "anti-cheat" that just won't work ๐Ÿ˜ข.

  11. You should check the 1% lows , seems linux has better 1% lows

  12. I quit linux for many reasons, but one of them was I have this brand new card, I don't get to use ANY of the software for my card or CPU or MB. Plus I found most stuff just ran better and easier on windows…. basically the juice isn't worth the squeeze. they run neck and neck and some games don't work at all with steamos or linux

  13. These comparisons always require you to handwave the HUGE issue of Linux having poor compatibility with the type of graphics card most people have.
    >On the GPUs that steamOS supports
    >In the launcher that steamOS supports
    >In the games that steamOS supports
    >Using the features that steamOS supports

It just makes any W's seem a lot bigger than they are and takes windows' general compatibility for granted.

  14. Linux is generally better in my experience.

Also SteamOS will probably run on steam deck presets for some games by default so that could skew a test like this.

  15. I'd like to see your comparison of Windows 11 vs. CachyOS while gaming on Steam

  16. Windows has been optimized for games for yearss, give steamos a year or two and its gonna leave windows to dust specially in low budget builds where ram is less. Steamos will blow windows out of water

  17. Windows will run fine on a clean build, but over time you will have stuttering from the telemetry and nvidia telemetry. Dont get that on Linux. Granted theres some teething issues, but long term the performance will be consistent on Linux, and not Windows.

  18. I really do think in about a year, everyone will be ditching the windows and going to steam.

I know i will after its had some time to flesh out the optimizations, dont think ive every played any of the games you tested, but i have been looking forward to the Steam OS for a very long time. I tried linux before, but because games just were not designed to run on it, i had to go back to windows. I tried Linux Ubunto back when i had windows 10 about 4-6 years ago. If all of my games worked on it, i wouldnt have had to buy windows 11. So not steam are finally getting their OS in order and working, i will switch over as soon as i hear all games will work on it. Which i think will be in about a year or so.

  19. The performance on SteamOS is still really impressive given that it's running Windows native games through a compatibility layer. I expect things to improve over time with further optimization. And the difference in RAM usage really goes to show how much bloat Windows is running in the background.

  20. My rog xbox ally x sleeping for 5 days (hibernation) same exact point in game and battery no matter the game. Same thing with my PC. And you can actually unlock your pc with the controller.

  21. Only shows when it hasn't worked ๐Ÿ˜…

  22. I wish to know how steamos will go on on my 9850X3D and 5080 Astral! I love Icarus and i wish i can play it without the windows garbage

  23. Here's hoping they get it set up for Nvidia soon I want to get rid of Microslop ASAP I'm sitting on a 3090TI as don't want to use it for anything other than gaming getting ready to install Linux in 2 more months if not available

  24. When SteamOS supports Nvidia GPUs, that will be the day I leave Windows for good.

  25. don't forget about decky loader , decky framegen , lossless scaling and other frame gen mods for steam os its a game changer but decky loader does have a tendecy to break with every new steam os update and can stop games from launching in my experience which is why I don't use decky loader anymore.

  26. No cheating. The Windows pc wins.
