  1. What do you guys think of open source smart home remotes like this one?

  2. Do you know Open Remote from LORDSn1per github? There is a ESPHome Version too. I think the touchscreen is a good upgrade.

  3. Glad you liked it! Thanks for testing a beta unit for us 🙂

  4. I've actually been building my own smart remote from the ground up. I decided to do it the other way, and everything's working already, but there are some challenges for sure. It's ESPHome, but it requires Home Assistant for the heavy-lifting for device connections. It has a screen, and that uses my CastKit software stack which streams images to the device. Using an ePaper display, I can get way more battery, but then I need to fit tiny LEDs around it, and that's hard to do for a screen that small. There are lots of cool things I was able to do, but it's not a simple device to build because it requires a lot of testing and tinkering. I'm just glad I'm able to do it with off-the-shelf parts and no soldering!

  5. I have so many of these Wiimotes at home. I kept looking for the April Fools part of the video. I think you forgot to add it 😆.

  6. The fantasy interface has no screen and no buttons. Just accelerometer plus microphone. Some training is helpful to learn the proper swish & flicks, as well as how to pronounce certain commands. For example its levi-Oh-sa, not levios-Ah

  7. Pointless until it can tell what you're pointing at rather than just orientation

  8. Personally i've been looking for a truly smart remot for my smart home for YEARS.
To me is very logical to comand devices with a remote in almost every occasion…

  9. How is it possible that there is no Elgato Stream Deck for smart and wireless home with configurable button panels?

  10. I'm glad you took a look at it and tried it out! 🙂

  11. I want this in a Dr Who sonic screwdriver.

  12. I think this is the first time I’ve seen something on here that I immediately disliked.

  13. It’d be cool if its IR camera could be used to determine which device you aim it toward. Point at a lamp and click up or down to adjust the light bright or dim. Point at a thermostat and click up or down to adjust the temperature warm or cool. Point at a speaker and click up or down to adjust the volume loud or quiet. Point at a fan and click up or down to adjust the speed fast or slow. Point at a window and click up or down to adjust the shade open or closed. Etc.

  14. I saw the thumbnail and I was squinting asking myself "Is that a wii mote?". Why yes it is!

  15. A smart Wii remote?! Pretty sweet

  16. Could you combine it with presence detection to customise it to different rooms you walk into?

  17. This seems sensible for a non shared space, with limited devices to control and a cheaper wand style remote for a bedroom. I'd like to see Homey support.

  18. Although I think this is very interesting, the problem with these kinds of controller is that it’s very hard for none-smarthome-nerds to remember which action does what. And if I’m the only one in my family to use this product, it’s not worth buying.

  19. Lol just buy the PS3 Bluetooth IR Remote and get Claude to program it.

  20. Can i use different motions with it? Like the wii bowling motion for something, or wii tennis for another?

  21. The big question is, can the accelerometer tell which direction you are pointing ? Say the lamp on the left vs the lamp on the right.

  22. bringus

  23. I love the Lego movie reference at the end 😂

  24. Yes sounds like

  25. The Wiimote is also an IR camera. I wonder how they could use it. Maybe pick up IR beacons to change the action when you aim at different targets.

  26. This review is one of the reasons why I like your channel. You are such a curious individual and willing to look at anything and filter the wheat from the chaff for the rest of us. I’m definitely considering tha remote.

  27. 0:52 — Can I ask how you got that font on your Home Assistant view? (I just have the default Home Assistant font, it doesn’t look nearly quite as nice as that!)
