  1. Want me to feature your automation idea in a future video? Check out the description for instructions. I’m excited to see your smart home!

  2. I've been thinking about an automation since before it was a thing but I won't get to implement it till we move in 10 months:
Bathroom light. Motion sensor + door sensor. Door open OR motion –> light on. Door close AND no motion in 5 seconds –> light off. No more turning on/off light in bathroom + super simple.

  3. Dad tax.. Ha… I'm stealing that

  4. I'm Autistic and have to put in multiple Alexa reminders if I'm meeting a schedule, it's a nuisance and time consuming; I love that idea with the changing lights, I'm definitely going to copy that somehow, thanks.

  5. I've always been interested in the idea of creating/building and automating something but I have no idea on what to learn first like what type of courses would I need to take to learn and build stuff like this?

  6. I'm having hiccups with the toddler remote. Even if I specify ex: "play Bluey on disney plus" fire tv will bring me to the prime screen to purchase episodes instead.

Also would be nice to be able to specify a season of TV. Starting on sesame street episode 1 freaked out my daughter!

  7. Imagine having to do the "math" to get to the train station on time. Nightmare.

  8. I got the Broadlink 4 buttons a month ago and used Alexa to control my smart lights with it. But Alexa stopped triggering the routines a couple of days ago. Alexa can see the buttons pressed (sees them as sensors), but does not trigger. Searching for a solution, I ended up here. Aparetnly, you have employed the same solution. Have you noticed a problem with the buttons like me? Found any solutions? I couldn't find a good solution online… Thanks.

  9. Just found this..thx for the tag on the fog machine portion. Your assumptions were on point. Working out that latency issues and will share more details on my YouTube soon. Awesome video and details!

  10. OMG! That door for vacuum robot is perfect idea 😀 I'm starting building that tomorrow, that's just awesome!

  11. It will be so good if someone makes the sleep tracking smart watches/bands to control home after we fall asleep, idk why its not built-in its already tracking!

  12. Maybe I could puzzle you wish a question? Followed you for a couple years now but don't think I've seen you cover this. I'm adding a ceiling fan to an area that has only 1 switch but I want to control the fan, light and speed of the fan. Have you found a way for this to happen at the fan as there is obviously only one power wire running up to the ceiling fan? BTW the fan is 2 stories up in vaulted ceiling.

  13. Stop stealing my thoughts you utter bounder!!!!

  14. Love the Robot vacuum garage. But how does it get back home and then close the door?

  15. Wondering if you have ever used HAL home automated living. I had it several years ago and was hoping they would be bigger by now but never see it mentioned. It was so great even in the 90s. Wondering if you have any idea why

  16. I look for a way rolling down the blinds when I turn on my tv, not using Amazon. Any ideas?

  17. I would never use any of these

  18. Hi everyone, I'm really interested in learning how to program automations like these but I'm not sure where to start..any tips?

  19. Not much of an automation, but I changed the command for setting my home to away to be: “shields”

  20. any chance you could do a video on your sick set up behind you? would love to do something like that for all my camera gear

  21. I keep hoping that someone makes a line of home automation booby traps, home alone style.

  22. I seen some crappy videos but this is Gold standard…..NOT! Your Gone………….

  23. I have been looking for a solution to indicate who gets a notification when the washer/dryer/dishwasher is done. The Broadlinks are definitely something I'm going to play with. I'm not a fan of "hub required" devices in my automations but I'll just have to get over it.

  24. Nice setups!

Do you know any CO2 sensors, that can monitor CO2 levels in house? This so i can automate the setting on which the ventilator runs, or open the rolling shutters.
preferably that also log it so you can monitor the levels?

  25. Is broad link better than the bond?

  26. I tried setting up an automation like that for when my hockey team scored, but I couldn't get it to function properly, an definitely did not have the correct hardware. I tried using IFTTT paired with my nanoleafs to light up and flash by using the notification system from the NHL app when "my team scores". To my surprise, it worked, but it fired off every single time there was a goal for any team haha

  27. I absolutely LOVE the mini garage for the robot vacuum! Absolutely genius!

  28. Lol, I definitely want my big battery robot to go under by kitchen cabinets. How lovely idea if it happens to catch fire 🤦

  29. Damn. Now i need a fog machine!

Any idea if there's a Google equivalent for the toddler remote?

  30. Love this video idea! Would love to see more crowdsourced automation ideas. One device I've enjoyed recently is the Hank Z-Wave button. It is smaller, lighter, and much more reliable that the Tradfri buttons I was using previously with my Smartthings Hub. Plus it's rechargeable.

  31. Can i ask, how are you getting the ikea round button to do anything with any other products? https://youtu.be/CNi8mVqP1sE?t=252

  32. Reed, thanks for mentioning the BroadLink Smart Button. Set it up today but having an underlying issue with Alexa. I programmed one of the buttons to “play Bluey on Disney Plus”. Alexa says “playing Bluey on Disney Plus” but it just brings me to their Amazon store to rent an episode for 1.99 or the season for 9.99. Anybody have any ideas how to bypass the Amazon giant and get it to play the Disney plus version I already pay monthly for?

  33. could you put Links in the links popup in the vedio like a expandable menu

  34. My Wife loves the Fanta Pineapple sodas too

  35. I didn't hear CATCH when he was talking about the subway so I thought they were mega fans of picking up getting a good Subway sandwich 😭

  36. I love the Toddler remote. I also bought it. Turns out it wont work on google assistant. You cant run routines without voice… im so disappointed! Love your video's! Keep it up!

  37. wow love these smart home ideas!

  38. Great video. How many attempts to get that apple sauce pouch to slide and stay up? Haha.

  39. I tapped subscribe as soon as you said to record the video horizontally, not vertically. (And because you have good content)

  40. Lol the motion sensor stairs… very billie jean

  41. This guy’s voice is very, very similar to Tim Cook’s voice!! Are they related ? Lol

  42. Nr 3 doesnt always work. When i clean my ecovac i have to pick it up too (like the guy in the video has to) and weirdly enough by doing so and not positioning it EXACTLY the same, it tells me it lost its position and found a new map.

  43. Love your videos and your always who I watch for anything I plan on doing in my apartment. Soo I need your help or anyone’s help really. Is there anyway to assign smart home devices to an IP!! I’ve tried IP binding in my router but they still won’t use the IP I’ve assigned In my routers settings. Please any help would be appreciated .
    —What I have—
    Google home Assistant
    TP Link AC4000
    GE bulbs
    Home assistant on Vbox
    enbrighten smart plugs

  44. Always informative, approachable and with humor. Awesome stuff, Reed!

Hey, any idea how I can use a smart switch to trigger Wyze's own routines? I use a Wyze Bulb Color set to orange for my son's nightlight (his favorite color), but the orange preset on Alexa is basically yellow. At the moment I'm using the toggles in the app and my Wyze Band, but I need him to have a physical button
