Actually mobile phone cameras are far worse than integrated laptop cameras because they have even lower focal length and they make faces look longer and with bigger nose, the normal focal length required for a face to be as in the mirror is 50mm which only regular cameras have, and a few webcams, but none of the mobile or integrated laptop cameras have good focal length
4 years ago I optioned for the premium webcam and microphone on my HP laptop I still use, and both are literally useless. I mean, LITERALLY USELESS.
So which Windows laptops have a 1080p webcam besides Microsoft Surface Studio 2?? I can't find any other than the LG Gram and the speakers on the bottom of that thing are too annoying.

The laptop-screen's frame is too-small, and/or nonexistent. You're going to get fingerprints on your screen! (Ever thought of that?)

720p is enough. The need to share the slides towers over the need to show a clear face of the speaker. You are not taking a laptop outdoor for a selfie either. Why pay for 1080p or more?

That so weird, my cheap 20 bucks Lenovo phone that less thicker than my laptop screen case yet my phone has better videocall camera than my laptop, even with those Linus's ultra expensive laptops, my cheap China-only phone still have better videocall camera. These companies are just excusing, they're just too lazy to do that.
Denoising and resharpening are so possible using small programmed board placed inside screen case, so data from a real camera will be processed before sent to motherboard, with current 720p webcam standard for a cheap laptop it really possible to make them without consuming many power. I can even do that with Raspberry Pi Pico, it should not that hard to scale down to fit screen case.

Its funny that now Apple has a mac with a camera bump and thicker display and yet still the front camera is worse than an iPhone front camera. Laptop manufactures only have excuses to obfuscate the real reason, they don't care about front cameras.

I have a very thick laptop with a very thick LCD screen… and the webcam is still looking horribly bad. They want us to buy smartphones to take pictures, not laptops.

Mate, you’re kidding yourself if you think the depth of field of a tiny sensor will be noticeably affected by say an f/1.8 va f/2.4 aperture. It only becomes relevant with larger sensors.
Well Laptop webcam quality won't mean that much for me, if at the end the others on the meeting will also have a crap video stream.

I like large robust displays on laptops; it gives a nice feel and gives room for good electronic equipment such as a camera and microphone.
Professional video call users use a Raspberry Pi HQ camera with manual focus…
Nothing is an excuse. If a 150$ smartphone can give a much much better, even hole punch cameras within ~8mm thickness with all the other stuff, then there is no excuse for 1500$ laptop. No matter how thin the bezels are
Obvious solution: Bigger bezels and thicker laptops. Maybe we can get laptops with optical drives and decent keyboards again? Seems to me the decline in keyboard quality has gone hand-in-hand with the laptop manufacturers' obsession with making them thin.
Next macbooks they will have amazing camera a no bezels, then laptops manufacturers won't have more excuses… Stupid manufacturers, always apple has to come to kick their asses. Same happened with battery life, materials, trackpads….
