I’m building a 12900k with an Rtx 4080. Would 64gb of 5600 ddr5 make more sense than 32gb of 6000? It’s for gaming and Lightroom / video editing.
Good to know DDR5 literally has such a low $/performance ratio compared to DDR4 it’s a total waste of money right now. I’ll wait a few years.

I'm thinking on upgrade my motherboard does the ddr4 will fit on the ddr 5 motherboard slot? or do I have to upgrade memory too?
Cool video, I'm definitely very thankful how much ddr5 prices have went down since this video. I do think it would have been better to compare the ddr5 with ddr4 that is a more average I didn't even know ddr4 came that fast before this video so I don't think it's exactly the best representation of ddr4.

So if it's latency which is making DDR5 not faster than DDR4, is that something which is baked into the hardware? Like will that stick of DDR5 always be that bad? Is the only way to get the advantage of DDR5, to just wait for less terrible sticks to come to market?

Since the motherboards are priced about the same, wouldn't it make more sense to buy the cheapest ddr5 ram for now and then get a better one once the technology matures?
128gb DDR4 3600 cl16-18 is much better then 64gb 6000 cl30-32 with the same price timewise they are equal in speed, but one has an extra 64gb.
I bought a 3090 with 12900k and just with the newest ddr4 motherboard and ram and it works perfectly. Ddr 5 was so much more expensive and i only game so yeah was an easy decision
So cool, it's literally the same story as it was for the jump between ddr3 and ddr4… wait until the bugs are sorted out then upgrade… like 3 or 4 generations down the line. ran a 5700k then an 8700k now I'm jumping to 12700k (due to a cracked motherboard…) Never need the top of the line anything. The coolness factor is never worth it.

you should of done fortnite as a test. people dont realise but fortnite has the most strain on a pc. the graphics arent major, but its hugely reliant on ram. the building aspect of the game will make an a $3000 pc run 70 fps max on lowest graphics and high performance settings and thats just normal play, dont even get me started on late game.. combination of already built builds, 30 people in a tiny circle surrounded in a huge storm that destroys fps, while they all edit and reset builds at the same time as fast as they can. even a $7000 pc stuggles to get above 100fps at that time.
It's gonna be the same case as ddr3 with ddr4, no difference in the early days of ddr4 til some time passes by and many updates later…
32 GB two 16GB sticks, DDR5 5600 CL36 are $170 today, worth it?
