make shift electro chemical etching. i've worked as a knife maker in the past, nothing to fancy just straight foreward forged blades and because i couldn't afford a proper etching machine i've used this technique before haha very smart!

works great but might turn out diffirent colours/shades with different steels. i tried my carbon steel knife and turned out black but with a little sand paper(for deeper ones) or fine steel wool (try this first if u can) it goes back to the steels original colour
