  4. Unfortunately neither of my XP laptops which work with the particular router I'm trying to connect to (one XP Home, one XP Pro) have a 'show characters' box beside the network key when I eventually dig down to the network properties, and there is no ' Security' tab to be seen. So I tried the cmd prompt route. In that case, I get the message 'The following command was not found: wlan show profile'. I need the key to connect another laptop (this time Windows7). There is a very long security key on the router, a total of 24 characters in groups of four, but that doesn't work. Nor do the first 8 characters alone. Any ideas?
