A simple way to use a remote control while missing one battery, is to take a paper clip and complete the circuit. This will only use one battery (obviously) and the voltage will be lower so you will need to get closer but it will still work! That way if someone steals a battery from you you can still use your device!

why remote controls even use two battteries in the first place
It should run at the same voltage actially. Because the bateries are paralel conected. The voltage stays the same only the time will be shorter, because one battery will be drained faster than two bateries.
I just tried this like 20 times and it would not work. Tried four different remotes and different batteries. The only thing I got to happen after a while is my remote started to smoke a little. Now I got this strange ass smell all through my house. Lmao 😆
