Bait & switch is a common deception technique that’s as old as time itself, but usually it’s only seen being done by bad actors. What if I told you that this is happening today, right now, on sites like Amazon and Newegg, with some of the best selling SSDs?

Comments

  1. To never buy pny, kingston and now Adata! 😂

  2. i bought one of these in 2020 because i was tired of the huge load up times on my HDD playing ARK. swapped the game over to this ATADA drive and it made NO difference. The small SSD my computer came with was way faster.

  3. Vast majority of this was over my head, but well done on keeping tabs on their shady practises! 👍 Keep it up!

As you said, it should be illegal!

  4. My hand matches the spec of their drives… it doesn't transfer anything, but zero is well within "up to"

  5. I bought that same NVMe and I got scammed hard shit died 2 week later

  6. That is why I always buy Samsung drives and I never have a problem I get the nice performance I expect Yes they are a little bit more money but they are long lasting and extremely durable The software they give you is very good to manage to drive and I never had a problem with the Samsung drive going bad I counted maybe 17drives that I have put in different computers and laptops gaming PCs as well no issue at all whatsoever!¡!!

  7. It probably is as there is a whole book of criminal law, you probably are.

  8. Samsung, WD, Crucial. Why go with anyone else? Run data transfer tests and you get the actual advertised speed. Prices are better than ever right now.

  9. As someone who works in Logistics and transportation I have come to hate the words up to. It’s all over this damned industry. So I have no reason to buy from any of these companies that don’t have their own supply chain.

So i bought a SP A55 Sata SSD earlier this week, specifically because it was advertised as having a certain Phison controller, which for my use case is literally the best DRAM less Controller out there. The drive i got uses a 2 year older Silicon Motion Controller that misses some key features of the phison. Given that the Controller was explicitly named on the sales page i am thinking of returning it, simply because i feel lied to.

  10. I bough my SSD, and DDR4 at Samsung. Don't regret it, top performance, top end computer, unfortunately not the best GPU or motherboard for the job, but I can upgrade those later when they are truly outdated.

  11. Linus make a memory regulation company 💪

  12. I remember watching Linus when I was 14years old I’m glad he’s around still

  13. I vowed to never buy an adata/xpg product ever again after my purchase of a 1tb s40g RGB NVME. Not only did it take me months of tinkering to get the drive to work with rgb software it was advertised to be compatible with, it was also a big suprise to find out that while running the lighting at anything other than stock "rainbow" scheme, performance of the drive was barely A QUARTER of what was advertised. Huge rip off

  14. 😂 at 02:34 , his name means "black chimpanzee" in swedish

  15. Yeah, never thought AData, Kingston nor PNY were a grade products. just cheep. Buy Samsung and Sandisk! They make their own flash and I've never had an issue with their products.

  16. After getting my sata ssd burn just under a month I never buy ADATA products. Can't trust them.

  17. That isn't the only business that is scammimg. I exposed so many.

  18. interestingly enough im noticing this with the headphones i recently bought too, i have the og hyperx sond cloud IIs. its not audiophile levels of sound but its the first pair i had that didnt sound like i was listening to muffled base traps. The one plastic piece on it started to crack, which is what holds the headband on so i sought out to buy another pair since it's still listed after 8 years of having this pair. Bought it off amazon and noticed right away that the quality is much worse, the cable that connects the cups sound together is much thinner, the feel of it is much more plain, the sound is honestly close, but still more muffled. i ended up sending it back to buy it locally and it ended up being the same so i just harvested it for parts to fix my old pair (the part that broke ended up being close enough that it was usable).

Honestly it makes me sad that we can't have nice things due to companies trying to sell us cheaply made items for exorbant prices, just got to go small company i guess. 😑

  19. Personally, I don't care about performance as long as a drive at least meets SATA spec. My concern is reliability. I've seen no difference between drives pushing 400-500MB/s and drives pushing 1-2GB/s in gaming. Even games like Fallout 4 with its horrendous load times, seem to gain nothing from the bump to Nvme.

  20. They saved several thousand on their bits and pieces, but have lost several customers. Problem is that 90% of their customers will never know of this scandal, 90% of those who do won't care, 90% of those who do won't have the conviction to never buy from them again, and 90% of those who do have the requisite conviction, aren't buying enough for the company to even notice.

  21. So what. This is nothing new.
Car manufacturers, appliance manufacturers and other electronic manufacturers, etc., they all change part vendors frequently. You really want every manufacturer to list every component AND the vendor every time you buy something? Naww…

  22. Thank you papi. This is what I’m here for

  23. Calling Newegg a "reputable brand" is a stretch these days

    I blame China

  24. 终于有中文了

  25. Crucial p2 nvme ssd got a 'silent' hardware revision I.e a change from tlc to qlc NAND without any change in product details…..the sad got very positive reviews initially and people continue to buy it but the newer ones work at HDD speeds

And this is why i find and stick to Samsung and wait until I can afford it.
What a bunch of used car salesmen ADATA are!

  26. bruh. newegg is not reputed. they scammed me last year.

  27. Ah those where build for different regions on the world so that's why different behaviors even if you have the sane model it might behave different nanotechnology is not that precise since is mas produced, what i bought in the first quarter of this year is an galaxy s22 ultra exynos 22000 16gb ram so y benchmark it and that phone performs 86 better than the same model with same specs even if they have a label usually if you fabricate pc components in like Thailand where there ain't no standard you won't apply to such labels because it counts where those components are fabricate in

  28. i mean this was never new we know how even phones or any other things that get send to the media are tweaked but am glad that linus is briging it up

  29. NGL. I know there are better spec'd devices out there. But i stick with samsung for this reason. Unless its a HDD for redundant backuos.

  30. Everytime linus says sponsor SKIPSKIPSKIP

  31. I am building a high end gaming now capable of full motion 3-4 4k monitor simulation (racing and flying). I didnt have any clue on memory and M.2. now I do. and will only be buying Samsung. I would value a list of other vertically integrated OEMs by product though. THankyou for your channel – I do find yours more useful than others

  32. Bro can you tell which company make better SSD because you confused me now 😂😂😂

  33. Or even worse I bought a prebuilt asus ROG and it did not even include the ssd that I apparently had paid for

  34. Ive had decent luck with Geil Evo Potenza ram. Might want to look at them too. I dont want to buy the bait and switch. I want to buy the 1st one everyone is ripping off.

  35. Except now its technically not even the same product and that would be not as described on eBay

  36. Sad state of affairs. Yes, there should at least some false advertising recourse, but, as usual, they cover themselves with "results may vary" statements in small print. We should be used to it by now, but it should NOT BE HAPPENING IN THE FIRST PLACE. Hope they enjoy tanking their trust by consumers.

  37. instead of bait and switch, i feel like they just dont have stable source of component. they probably dont make the component their own and just buy whatever they can get?
