I decided to buy the portal go for my senior parents who for a variety of reasons can't operate smartphones, tablets or any complex devices. I wanted the simplest possible device for making and receiving calls from relatives overseas. I will be setting up these to do WhatsApp only.
I don't understand why they have released the new ones as they lack a lot of features i have the original portal plus
people who use whatsapp and facebook messenger/live are who would buy this. But it does too little to be worth buying. They could have at least included youtube.
Portal + has a better resolution AND sound quality than the new Amazon 15 inches according to my customer.

Why should I buy a Facebook device if I can do the same with my iPad, iPhone etc…..with FaceTime, WhatsApp Video or a normal Facebook Video call? In my eyes it’s a big fail, I would never buy it! But nice video dude 🤙🏾🤙🏾

Did you omit the fact that the new Portal Plus screen is higher resolution than the previous gen, and any device from the competition, on purpose ? If you did, than that's really bad and possibly shows bias. If it was just a mistake, then that's also pretty pathetic.

They should focus on releasing more updates and adding more features as I have been using my portal plus for about 6 months but it lacks features its a good display but not enough features
Even though the original older Portal Plus is 15 inch, it has 16:9 aspect ratio (a wider but less taller screen), 1920 × 1080 (2073600 pixels), 140 degree wide angle camera.
The new one at first glance looks like a downgrade due to being one inch smaller at 14 inch but actually it's not because now it uses a grand 3:2 aspect ratio (much taller screen), resolution of 2160 × 1440 (3110400 pixels) – far more pixels overall and higher resolution video stream.
Yes it's non-rotatable and has a 130 deg wide angle camera. Those are downgrades.
Another concern is that the new one may not have a TV out via USB-C in which it would be a downgrade to the original Portal Plus.

I think you are being harsh on the portal saying it has "so much ground to make up" with other smart devices when it has Amazon Alexa integrated. It's basically an Amazon Echo Show with better video calling system built in and a few features missing from the Amazon Echo Show.

Preview did not mention the higher resolution screen on the new Portal Plus. That's an advantage over the 1st gen version. But I see the new Portal Plus as a downgrade too even though the new model has a higher resolution screen. The screen is now smaller and it doesn't swivel.
I don’t think Facebook knows what they’re doing with Portal at all and they’re really late to the party!
LOL Facebook is still trying to do smart home screens? Just give it up guys. You lost. Cut your losses.
Or do a complete overhaul of your privacy policy, market it heavily, and bring a product with some REAL BENEFITS over the competition. Otherwise you're just wasting your money.
