linus those cooling pads do work to help cool laptops as long as get right one an as long as the laptop not like a notebook with no vents thats a problem i got the iets gt500 for my laptop an it drop temps from reaching 96c down to 80c full load in a game
So I actually had a problem a couple weeks ago. I posted the whole thing on the LTT forum, which didn't end up helping. One guy was super snarky, and basically was just shitting on my setup. I ended up figuring it out myself with standard part swapping troubleshooting, but at least the problem and solution are documented there. Ironically the problem, and solution were both proposed solutions in this video!
The issue was my pc died right after a match of cod dmz. I went to reboot, and it posted, but then spun the windows 10 dots forever. Eventually after a half hour I did get back in, backed up my drive and tried to fresh install windows. this didnt work, and I couldnt even get windows installed. then i started disconnecting devices, swapped ram, swapped gpu, and right when i was going to swap my cpu, removed a pcie usb expansion card I had installed years ago in the 1x pcie slot between the gpu and the nhd15(ltt chroma edition, which is important) when I pulled the card I noticed it was basically touching the heatsink for the cpu. The back of the board was black, but was worn through to the copper and the chroma nhd15 heatsink was touching it in that spot, and also touching the through hole for the usb3 internal header. Over time the coating wore off from the fan vibration causing a short over the card. So I removed it, and voila everything was back to normal. This is what Jake had recommended to someone, but theres a better solution, most motherboards have unused usb headers.
I still needed those extra usb ports, so I actually ordered the exact usb 2.0 expansion that Linus recommended, and it plugs into the motherboard directly, and no possibility of shorting.

I would pay more than 10 bucks for a tech line that was actually helpful a lot more
Any other laptop users surprised to hear that the cooling base does not offer any additional cooling (at around 7:50, she asks how to keep her laptop cooler and asks if she should buy a stand)?
I never tested mine, but have always used it when gaming. My computer does have adjustable/automatic fan profiles and I use a headset so I wouldn't really notice a change in fan speed.
My only evidence is that I feel like games run better, though at the same time I am also more generous with the OC setting on my laptop when the cooler stand is on.
One thing that I can positively say is that the fan-stand does keep it cool in some use cases. Doing homework in bed without the stand means the intakes are likely restricted by a blanket, so in use cases where the laptop isn't on a hard surface, it will improve thermals.
That last bit shows how difficult it can be to provide tech support, because even if Linus is correct, if the customer is using the laptop on their literal lap with their legs right below the intakes or exhaust, then it really could make a huge difference. And in the specific case of the customer, who had only uninstalled 1 program before calling in, it seems plausible that the heat concern is more of a human comfort thing, not a performance thing. Keeping a hot laptop on your lap gets uncomfortable when it is hot outside, so it makes sense someone woudl want to cool it down.
Jake didn't really find the best solution for the double clicking, just the quickest for him.
Why not go to task manager and see if a mouse software was active first (Logitech option, etc) ?
Reinstalling windows takes a very long time and you need a spare disk. I would have tried to login in safe mode first to see if the issue persisted.
How we can open a ticket to be supported by Linus!!!???
Linus' business idea is a call center only better lol
That Hotline would never stand still and you would get calls for like the complicated shit seen on earth if they know you only pay once for the ticket with no time limit 😀 Thats why this stuff is mostly time based and good skilled staff is expensive to employ as you know.
The people with no technical knowledge also dont realize it but ppl with your or jakes skill set would earn like 2500-4000€ net in Germany if all of your skills are used. Min wage is like 1400 net as a single non married. So the charge per hour has to be a lot for the customer to pay the staff and pay all the other overhead (power equipment licenses insurances taxes and a lot more).
Thats why a good technician costs like 120-180€ an hour.
i do have a problem with my pc that i would like to know how to fix i installed fans into my pc and the top 2 exhaust fans will vibrate with a pulse unless i have something on top of it and they are as far apart as i can get them
I want more of this, decent amount of insight on wierd problems people would be having.
And I though I was ackward with customer support when i need to contact them, sometimes I can't stop asking how it work or confusion point over that in which at the end most of the time I know more of then them already.
I can smell the tech scammers using that browser calling thing from a mile away.
This was one of my favorite videos thus far. I’d love to see more tech support videos 😊
I decided to watch this and my anxiety shot up when I thought about taking a call again.
This challenge post ChatGPT would feel completely different
RE: Double click issue: File Explorer -> Folder options -> Click items as follows … Make sure Double click is selected, not single click with mouse over to select : This would explain why it only is an issue on his PC, and only some of the time… It could also be that he's accidentally changed double click speed in mouse settings, which could cause Windows to mis-recognise it.
Essentially the fact that it happens with different mice on their system, but those same mice work on another system just fine, means that its a fault in windows. possibly a driver issue, usb port issue, but most probably user error or someone else using their pc (like kids or other relative has trolled them) and they've changed one of these settings….
As a final afterthought, if Logitech's or Razer's or some other third party software has installed with the mouse, then uninstall it! – I hate that EVERYTHING has to install it's own bloatware these days, potentially causing conflicts with Windows, when Windows has its own software for configuring everything already (albeit with it's own issues)… I'm very careful to only install drivers for mice, keyboards, scanners and printers and so often they don't make it easy (especially printers!) where they pretty much try to insist on installing a software bundle… I'm pretty sure (if I'm remembering correctly) that the dongle for my Razer mouse has some kind of flash drive that automatically tried to insist on installing the software when I plugged it in.
RE: the USB devices frequently dropping out:
1) check drivers on USB devices and remove devices one at a time for an extended period; I had an issue where two mice dongles (one Logitech and one Razer) were conflicting and one would keep pushing the other offline (I have one PC with 5 keybords and mice, including two wireless keyboards and two wireless mice (sometimes I play multiplayer from the same machine using ASTER on my movable triple monitor setup, and I also have a couch and TV hooked up in the gaming room on the PC, and a Fibre Optic HDMI and huge USB cable to downstairs living room to play and watch TV there from the PC upstairs)… There is also a limit to the number of USB devices windows can handle (20? I think, which includes USB hubs, so if you have too many, they will be constantly vying for use)
2) also possibly a power issue; initially go to power options and disable USB selective suspend, and if that doesn't work, try putting a powered USB hub inbetween problem devices can resolve issues with power hungry devices. (my previous X99 system had power delivery issues from the motherboard (with a similar ASTER setup and a load of devices), and the powered USB hub resolved it for me)
Man i need another one of these 😆

Oh my god Cutress' issue was very similar to mine, all I had to do was reseat my ram and later reset windows. Took me half a year to figure that out.
