I can't remember if I said this but just wanted to salute Linus again for this. It's the main thing I'm critical of Linus about is it feels like he forgets us lowlier gamers sometimes who're sometimes stuck on God knows what like an RX 550 4gb. Which, btw, is a classic example of a "cheap is not good value" card, yeesh. So I think this is a really good and important topic for gamers to think about, is just because it's the cheapest thing, doesn't mean it's a good deal, in fact this is the great sin of poor people thinking I had to watch relatives do over and over. Yeah, you're cheap, $10 shit cloggers are indeed saving money right now, but later one after they literally fall apart you'll need to build a new one. And a new one. Over and over like that eMMC tabl–I mean "laptop" video on tech quickie, these lowest of low HP books are designed to break. And so you save money now, but you'll essentially be on a laptop subscription service, thus paying way more money over time and the cheaper option would've been to just go a couple tiers higher.
This is true for so many things. Do not fall prey to poor people thinking. The budget option is the bad value option nine times out of ten. Cheap perfume? Same thing. A really cheap cologne is cheap because it sucks, you might as well just not wear one at all. THere's only a few options out there that don't make you smell cheap, in the $30-40 range. It's true of everything. The difference is tech companies get away with it because the majority of buyers have no idea what any of these numbers mean. So they get swindled, either by a too expensive for its performance bottle of the barrel AMD, or an alleged midrange nVidia that you pay through the nose for as bad performance as that bottom barrel but half the price AMD card. It's pretty easy to overspend and underdeliver on GPU purchase. I do agree though that used GPU is fine provided you know what you're doing. If it's filthy, I don't care how cheap it is if you couldn't arse yourself to wipe the finger grease off your laptop before putting it up on ebay I've got no confidence in the quality and reliability of your product sir.
bad timing for this video. all sub 200$ cards suck ass. only the rx 6600 starts making sense. and from nvidia only starting with the 3060 does the value make any sense.
$1000+
ISqay too unreasonable, regardless the (objectively) hard work thats put into it.Companies typically dont just want to make 'some money' – they want to make 'All of the money'
Edit: admittedly as a non-enthusiast, i appreciated hearing how 'not everyone knows every-bit about every-thing'.
DUDE!!!! I feel like I haven't seen anthony in forever and he looks so good, way better than we he first joined the channel. He has his hair back his skin looks good like woah!!!!
RX 570 or 590 paired w good enough cpu ND rám makes a beast
im still using my 1070. not changing anytime soon XD
If I can't get a GPU for equal to or LESS than the MSRP of a PS or Xbox then screw it, it might be time to get an console.
The fucking Nvidia MX440 card, it was a complete scam and I fell for it.
my first gpu was a 1050 because i noticed the jump in capability vs the 1030 for $10-$20 more. i upgraded to an used 1660 ti a little later around 2019 for $200 bucks. i told my buddy that he should buy an used 1660 ti but he opted for brand new at $600 in 2021. now we are both upgrading our 1660s i just jumped into a 6700 xt for $400 and hes thinking about getting a 4070 ti for $800 looks like the used 1660 was able to bridge me for just as long as a new one for cheaper.
I love this video. It's not just "why you shouldn't buy the cheapest GPU", but instead it's more like an approachable glossary and guide for understanding and buying a GPU.
If someone ever asks me for advice about building a computer, I'm going to send them this video for GPU advice.
I miss scrapyard wars =(
I hope my gpu that i ordered is good😅i ordered a rx580 for 260 but it does has rgb thouch
I wouldn’t say your segues haven’t changed Linus.
They’re definitely getting worse
I have been scrapyard wars-ing every thing that is my pc
i'd love to see more videos in this niche – i've been wanting to build a pc for years but the prospect of massive amounts of research and shortages and spending so much money makes it a daunting challenge for a beginner. this walked through the steps so clearly and it really makes the whole concept approachable. thank you
So this is basically a “how to watch our videos” video, idea tanks on E huh?😂😂
That was a super sneaky and smooth edit at 6:20
Did no one else catch that they dropped the frame rate when he mentioned “consistency from frame to frame” ??
Made me laugh
Lunix I doubt u even need to shop smart anymore
'Lets say you're running a 4th gen cpu, from about 10 years ago' me with a i5 4440:
1070 Ti and happy af
i want to play games at 1 frame persecond
