A glimpse into the past of Xbox game development with the Xbox Alpha I development kit. The craziest part? You can build one yourself! (sort of) AND IT CAN EVEN PLAY GAMES (maybe). Oh, and we mistake CES 2001 for E3 2001, but really, who hasn’t made that mistake before?

  1. Hahaha – What, no Ivory Tusk rings? Maybe rethink the Ring Vendor advertiser … Am pretty sure that Dinosaur bones should not be chopped up into rings. This makes you hope its all just false-advertising really. Snake Oil, dressed up as age defying elixer, etc. …

  2. Is it possible to use a external device for graphics card for a mini PC can't internally put a graphics card into. P.s. Linus if you can make a video that would be awesome

  3. You're brilliant at throwing a bunch of numbers around chipset CPUs GPUs graphics cards numbers and brands with a bunch of numbers and letters making people think you're a genius……. But in reality all the geniuses work for you do all the work for you and you just get in front of the computer do your salesman speech that you've done your whole life and bam you make all the money.

  4. There is something that being a nerd does for aging. I can't believe you're 40

  5. Hmmm. so, does the Dik HDD use the XFAT (notExFAT) file system with the strange partitioning? It would be cool to know more about it. As far as I know you can actually Build a DevKit right out of an old Version Xbox… I have had a bunch of old SoftModded XBOX's (now days all you have to do is download "DevMode" onto the XBOX ONE and you got yourself a Stock Devkit that can run programs. XBOX was really Cool

  6. that simpsons game is a banger. you are supposed to pick up passengers at that time linus. then you drop them off with a time limit too.

  7. look at brandon getting all virtue signally lol snowboarding in normal clothes is fun

  8. Lol Linus could open up a museum and just put screens in front of each exhibit item like this and just put the YT videos talking about it 🤣

  9. That arrow was why they got sued by Crazy Taxi. Crazy Taxi had a patent on using a floating arrow… In a later release it turned into the hand… This E3 version is what they used to prove that the hand was originally the arrow to win their case.

  10. the boot times and performance remind me of booting games from dos

  11. Now I see where Simpson's Road Rage got their inspiration from. All the "Crazy Taxi" fans from the Sega Dreamcast know what's what.

  12. Bill gates was a c**t

  13. The directX(box) lol

  14. I wonder if they were binary encoding their version numbers for fun, so it may have been v21.0 (v010101.0)

  15. IBM had customized BIOS splash screens and POST screens all the way back in the early days of home computing. It's always been possible, just annoying and expensive to code in, so most companies didn't bother until it became more trivial to do so. HP had some lovely splash and POST screens on their Proliant products.

  16. Hopefully, it will help Xbox emulator scene to make them better

  17. 😊😊😘😘

Grandpas PC?! Lol, computers from when my mom was in college, took up rooms!

  18. This touches my heart in ways you can't imagine. When the first xbox was announced. I was so excited Andy classmates made fun of me about it. This was a big step in gaming history. I don't have the new xbox. On a ps5 , but this is cool

  19. they must have used the rock for the original controller size measurements.

  20. my pc order from Build Redux became a nightmare.

Called in and got an update saying it would take another 10 business days to ship out. This is like the 4th time they pushed the date back.

So i said fine but since you guys are still working on my pc can you put the 13900k in instead of thec12900k and I will pay the part difference since there is a noticeable difference in performance. Guy said yea I can just bill your order. Dude come back and reply hours later saying they are too far in production and can't swap a part that takes under 2 mins to install. I told them if I could speak to a manager and then no response for hours just got emailed a shipping confirmation that the pc is shipping with 13900k. So I called to get confirmation and they tried to ship it with a 12900k. So I looked at the shipping the Dude sent me because I told them not to send it out before I speak with a amanager and now shipping shows canceled and waiting for a manager to call. What a nightmare.

  21. I remember Jade Empire on XBOX actually rebooted the machine every time you loaded a new level to get around a memory leak. The user never even knew 😛 Super fast boots.

  22. 13:32 The old game looks like Fortnite.

  23. I've just become aware of Linus again after over a decade away. I think the last and best video I watched from Linus was SMRT Wipes unboxing.

  24. Microsoft could probably make a heap of money by creating a virtual xbox OS that you can download and install on any PC that meets a minimum spec.

  25. Who is v2finalfinal and how did he edit the entire video

  26. I was able to customize my BIOS bootup splash back in late 90's. I think it was ASUS motherboards that had a utility to help you do it. Not as easy as nowadays,

  27. 16:0516:12 I found two green discs (at the time of this comment) on eBay.

  29. I tried to get a pre built PC from Build Redux (Linus's pre built company) it was the worst experience ever. I paid over $4,200 for my 4090 Build, and I had my processor changed to the 13900k. I spoke to several people about having the processor changed and it was confirmed that I even have a picture of it shipping eith the 13900k. Got my pc and it has the 12900k in it. Called back and cant even get a hikd of a manager to talk to. Just have to go through other employees to get word to managment. The employee said it was too late to change after they shipped it when my request was placed way back a long time ago and confirmed it could be changed. Long story short my order was delayed 4 times, and they said I would have to pay a restocking fee of 15% in or to get my money back, which was their fault. Never buy here.

  30. The N64 had a similar setup, they had to put the dummy Pak in the console to close the circuit. Yay Rambus 🎉

  31. that is a great beard your helper has. bonus for good beard.

  32. did his voice sound diff in the video

  33. GET A HAIRCUT 💇‍♂️

  34. The Soy Boy Face 😆

  35. 15:06 you plugged it into the wrong usb port you just told us that the ones on the mother board wouldn't work

  36. nice one <3

  37. are we just going to pass over the fact that a well dressed wizard is talking about 2000's tech

  38. "Remember, this is from the Year 2000! (so long ago in ancient history)"… 10 minutes later "Just 20 short years ago". Glad you can ride on the coat tails of all those before you that helped fuel the computer revolution in ancient history 40+ years ago so you could make your millions… and let's segway to yet another sponsor paying me so graciously to show this ancient dag nabbit X-Bucks! Gee wilikers Beav, it's neato!

  39. I do not get how a weak system can run Xbox and my xp 3.0 gigahertz cpu doil core coreand it can not run x box but this with windows and my system faster?

  40. Can we call it a hackbox?

  41. Stripping down windows has been an underground trick for quite a while. "Back in the day" there was a poor nerd with the handle eXPerience who put rediculous hours into stripping down and making TinyXP and MicroXP. I still have copies, not that I have a use for them. They make even the junkiest of ribbon cabled systems boot as fast as nvme ssd beasts today. Besides general debloating, some security holes were removed and creature comforts added. No need to wait for login when the entire multi-user system and standby menu is just gone. And what have we come to today? "Mandatory" Microsoft accounts to login to your desktop.
