Deals for Days. Big home savings are happening now.
Playing the devil's advocate for a second, I'm wondering whether there can be a good security reason to not provide firmware publicly. I could imagine people hacking the firmware and modifying it, then providing it on the Internet for users to take. It's software controlling aspects of people's homes and I could imagine criminals seeing opportunities.
We need just a standard fingerprint desktop pad, that is the password system completely.my password manager currently is a standard notebook that sits on my desktop…old, analog, but can’t be hacked…. Lol
I guarantee the tone l they have for firmware updating is a money flow path… they know if it works well you don’t need to buy more, so your a one time. customer
@1:21:36 timestamp for the submitted fanart for anyone looking
WHAT is that screeching on Luke's microphone??
you had problems with detection maybe this will help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Viqvx7hMMJs
You know, looking at Linus's videos has been a compelling anti-add for home automation. I haven't gotten involved in trying to automate my house largely because I just don't get the point, but watching Linus enter the 9th circle of tech hell over and over again over years and years to set up home automation is a REALLY good anti-add for home automation. I have no home automation and my light switches work just fine. Plus, they were cheap.
Secret labs seem to be such a good chair, really wish they had a chair in my weight category. I bought an Ewin Chair and when the base warped they only replaced the base and would not also include the cylinder even though it was unremovable because of the warping of the base. And now I can't even get them to let me buy a new cylinder to repair my very expensive chair so my bad back isn't screaming at me until my surgery
I basically only play racing games so Gamepass is very uninteresting to me, especially with how broken the online of only interesting racing game they offer has been (the latest Forza Horizon). Now all my friends are already so far into the game that there is no point in me getting it anymore. It's TDU2 all over again ffs.
In europe, Niko has some nice zigbee compatible devices. They work with home assistant without their proprietary hub but unfortunately , they have no firmware available on their website and so the only way to perform an update is through the hub 🙁
That Jasco fiasco is just a lawsuit waiting to happen I imagine. It imagine would be a very easy win in the EU at least lol
My Google accounts were hijacked. Idk how since I was never notified until I found out a week later by casually looking. Then they got my youtube banned and I have contacted them more times than I can count on one hand, and all I get is an automated response. Have not talked to one real person. It's infuriating.
Caseta is the low end lutron product, Yes it's pricey but you should have atleast looked at the full product stack RA2/RA3, homewerks are different ballgame.
F**king proprietary software!
>Linus requesting fanart
40k community: so do you want him to be a agri world governor or a ordos xenos?
They won't allow end user downloads because your knowledge of updating firmware is acceptable but 90% of the people out there have the ability to turn that device into a brick by not following the instructions.
I started playing indie games, turn based games and exploration games because I broadened my horizons with Game Pass!
I love the adventures into smart homes on this channel. I understand the hesitation to smash into it full time and ruin the existing youtube smart home IOT device culture, and appreciate it. Maybe LTT could enable some of the existing content creators and unlock home assistant and some of the more complex options for the masses. Or maybe HA really is impossible and we should all just love it as the penguin baby it is.
Journalistic irresponsibility. There are so many choices Jake and Linus made in selecting devices and none of them involved testing all the features without buying at scale and then put the company on blast because of their lack of planning and testing. Yes. Jasco should make firmware available, but using your social platform to emotionally amplify the message is improper.
Firewalla is decent. but at its core its not really a fantastic practice… ARP poisoning to monitor your network isnt great.
2FA is old tech, MFA is tyhe party. cmon Linus 😛
DO NOT let Jasco off the hook.
Give them L, make them fix the problem, and still go with inovelli cause its what you should do.
"You could all have new jobs very quickly."
Oh Luke… if only it were so.
Unfortunately, while the tech space is vast, so is the amount of numbskulls who make hiring decisions.
Granted, it might not be the same in every speciality but at least with the one I'm in, most people seem to have no clue how to evaluate engineers.
I'm currently deeply unhappy with my job and probably a bit underpaid. But I am also incredibly happy that I don't have to talk to morons who really shouldn't be conducting interviews every other day any more.
I have Lutron switches all over in my house. they took a little getting used to but I love them now.
I think you should give them another try but go for their super high end stuff. might be better than whatever you tried(idk what the names are anymore).
So sue them for twice + punitive … or make it a class action law suit.
